Snow? What is this "snow" that you speak of?

By snow I meant to say that there should be temperature difference between the lowlands and the highlands. Some hilly areas get snowfall in winters in the Carribean. The sight of snow would create some attraction in the picture. However, if there is no snow and the atmosphere is cool and pleasant it would be enough. If there is temperature difference in the island it would be great. There would be attraction for tourists like tourist resorts, cable chairs, hikers and El Presidente. Anyway I dont think this would be added in the current Tropico game since it seems it has been finalized but may be it could be an idea for the future Tropico.Smile

The climate of the Caribbean is tropical or semi-tropical on the northern fringe. The tropical climate is dominated by the tropical rain belt, which oscillates from the northern to the southern tropics over the course of the year. The tropical rain belt lies in the southern hemisphere roughly from October to March, and during this time the northern tropics experience a dry season in which precipitation is more rare, and days are typically sunny throughout. From April to September, the rain belt lies in the northern hemisphere, and the southern tropics experience their dry season. The rain belt reaches roughly as far north as the Tropic of Cancer and as far south as the Tropic of Capricorn. Near these latitudes, there is one wet season and one dry season annually.

In winter months, extending from December through April, the climate is affected by the movement of cold polar masses from North America. Arctic outbreaks may occasionally penetrate into the northern fringe of the Caribbean zone; that phenomenon is considered a disaster rather than a common event.

Temperature change based on land mass altitude (or mountains): typically this is minor enough to be outside a specific treatment in a game. T1 already recognized coffee tree growing zones vs sugarcane growing zones. T1 also recognized the effect of mountains preciptating rainfall in zones. Going beyond that with pluses and minuses for housing and tourist stuff based on altitude is stretching the point on a small island.

To get consistent snow fall on a mountain in the tropics, there has to be more altitude than a two kilometer square island can generate.

Future 'Tropico'? Let's take them one at a time. How many years did this one lay in waiting?

Quote:Although less than two hours from Miami and in the very heart of the Caribbean, the summit of Pico Duarte is often covered with frost and temperatures of 18 F or -8 C at dawn are not uncommon in the winter months.

Frost, not really snow. I guess that settles it.
A mountain like Pico Duarte doesn't really fit into the Tropico islands though, it would be bigger than the biggest possible islands in T1 Big Grin

That being said, people should be a tad more open towards suggestions, new people or people who don't have the same knowledge about T1 and the Caribbeans.

And what is your definition of "OPEN" ??

I don't mean to be sarcastic, but don't newbies also have just a bit of responsibility to look before they plunge in? Otherwise they get a bit of ridicule. If they have a question, I try to give a reasonable answer.

It's called "fail"

RE: Some very useful suggestions for Tropico 3! - el_malo - 11-06-2009 02:11 PM

Ardanwen, if you wish to give credence to those that post idiotic suggestions... go for it.

As for me, no thank you.

People that have little, or no knowledge of Tropico should remain silent.

If they do not, being ridiculed and mocked is something they brought on themselves.

The developers need intelligent, easy to implement suggestions.

Not the first bit of crap that floats to the top of someone's brain.

RE: Some very useful suggestions for Tropico 3! - MetallGER - 11-06-2009 03:33 PM

I would realy like it if the player would be able to create his own picture or to upload a picture of him which would be there instead of the choose-able pics at the beginning of new game like in Tropico 1.
It would also be easier for Multyplayergames...if possible.

And I realy liked the endless-game mode (Endlos-Spiel) most and the pocibility to choose you characters weakness and strength etc.; way of becoming the president etc.

thanks-I hope that Tropico 3 will be as good as part 1 ^^

Go Kalypso

T2 should not even be considered as part of the Tropico legacy.

Giving the Tropico name to it... is heresy Tongue

RE: Some very useful suggestions for Tropico 3! - Razael - 11-06-2009 05:38 PM

TBH i played it only 2 days and then "delete". Anyways i liked the idea for the predecessor thingy. The ex pirates = todays dictators. I think this was the only avaible connection to Tropico 1.

Back to topicK: Please make Atalntico!!! I want snow

IMO, Tropico is well suited to have various "skins" released as X-paces.

These skin could add the flavor of other Caribbean colonizers... the French, English, Dutch, etc.

Plus, we could have our hell-hole on Earth, located in West Africa, SE Asia, the Balkans, etc.

Take2 really screwed-up by not releasing more X-pacs.

Not the first bit of crap that floats to the top of someone's brain.

With an attitude like that you scare away potential fans of the game, you can't expect everyone to have as much knowledge of the game, the design behind the game and the Caribbean history, geography, politics, etc as you guys. You should be happy they take an interest in the game.

The developers can also use suggestions and remarks from people who don't have the same knowledge as you guys. After all, the majority of the people who will play this game won't have that knowledge. It's just as important, perhaps even more, that those people are heard.
The most important factor of a game is the fun-factor, not that every aspect is as historically and geographically correct. For most people that will play this game, they'll prefer the fun-factor. And I'm stating this in general about the forum here, not just this topic.

And only talking about easy to be implemented suggestions isn't that helpful for the devs either. Easy and obvious stuff isn't what moves games forward. Of course, this far in development 'big' things can hardly be changed or implemented, but you're a lot more helpful in pointing that out in a friendly manner than mocking them. I know everyone is really excited to be El Presidente again, but please, reserve the dictatorial and elitist talks for when you're addressing your Tropicans, don't use it on the forums.

If you wish the best for Tropico, be friendly and welcome to new players. If they got 'stupid' suggestions, just point out that at this stage of development big changes can't be made, or that it wouldn't really make sense. Or just don't reply.

Ardanwen, so I should patronize idiotic posters, instead of being honest with them Rolleyes

If the success of T3 is dependent upon anything I say, the game is in serious trouble.

Talking about X-pacs makes me thing for another Grand Ages X-pack. I rly hope Kalypso to have plans about it.

Bout hell-hole. I live in the Balkans and the situation here is verry familiar with Latin American countries. I've read some books about Chile, almost the same as here and the tourism rate is overall the same.

Still there could be some nice X-pack siutated in Balkans or somewhere in Ex-russia. But tbh i don' think they'll work verry well. Couse Tropico is rly more than just a Tourism Simulator.

Bout the Suggestion thingy... this is the opinion of 1-2 players, not all. I rly can imagine what will happen if developers start to take ideas from every single fan...

you and you're egomaniacal little twin make this forum intolerable sometimes. my GOD! this is just a freaking GAME, a toy, amusement, something to do as time goes by, not a damn way of life! why don't you and your buddy go sit up in the hills, roll cigars, and wait for Batista's grandson to take over an island somewhere. we wouldn't miss ya...

Mack the Nut is nothing.

He ran away from the Cafe, like a little girl, and feels safe here.

Well, it would be nice there'd be a bit more than 1-2 players on this forum though. Scaring off those that do manage to get here is not the way to go.

if people want to enjoy this game for what it is, just a game, and don't come in here with some inane idea they're really gonna be an island dictator (you guys are just freaking whacko), then leave them alone. say all you want about me, give me a -3 for all i care but quit belittling people who want to discuss this game at their own level. you and the curmudgeon can debate it all you like, after all you have no other life, but keep your snot nosed opinions about others to yourself.

This ends right here. Next person to reply off topic faces a ban. Stop your silly drama and get back to discussing the game.

We appreciate input from hardcore fans as much as from newcomers to the series. At least we all share a single goal: To make this game perfect.

In T1, the picture of the dictator appeared nowhere in the game other than during the "set-up", so it really didn't make much difference. That will certainly change in T3 since El Presidente will appear on map. What range of choice the player will have depends on the creativity of the developers.

Lots of players liked playing T1 without a time limit even though that meant playing without a score. In my opinion, it got silly after a couple of centuries. Several of the players noted for long games always played at fast speed only, alternating with pauses. T3 will probably have similiar options, but they probably will not be the core of the game.

In my opinion, the "free-form" set-up for El Presidente led to abuses of the scoring system. I hope for a considerable change in T3.

RE: Some very useful suggestions for Tropico 3! - Kigasolcp - 18-06-2009 12:57 AM

Well i guess id like to see

1. The set Economic Diffuculty to Easiest option, i had GREAT fun in T1 when i could spend millions on my Military, and Urbanize the Entire Island, i also loved sending people to prison for no reason, its part of the fun

2. The "No time limit" option, i understand you Coconut Kid, but i think for the first few times to get used to the game, and for some random fun, id use it

3. PLEASE keep the Automobiles, the screenshots make the game look great. it would make Tropico look more like a Banana Republic with those junk heaps

RE: Some very useful suggestions for Tropico 3! - Entraboard - 18-06-2009 11:33 PM

Here are some suggestions I'd like to see implemented, but seeing how it is mid-June and the game comes out at the end of September, I don't see how they could be integrated into the game.
Anyways,

Economic
- Street vendors - Anyone who has ever been to Latin America (or any tourist-y destination) will have spotted them. You could have two tiers/types of vendors: for Tropicans or for Tourists. The Tropican street vendor could sell food (for those far away mines, logging camps, etc) and the Tourist street vendor can sell silly souvenirs/curios that break five minutes after you buy them (repeat business!)
- Bribes & Corruption - In the previous version it was just your secret swiss bank account (that everybody seemed to know about). But how about rebels bribing soldiers to look the other way? Rebels bribing mine workers for their day's toil? El Prez bribing foreign dignitaries for better deals? El Prez bribing contractors for quicker build times? (I guess the avatar feature will take care of those last two points)
- Child labor - Flaunt international laws for a quick economic gain... but if they catch you, you could face a foreign invasion or severe embargos.
- Endangered species - Catch them and sell them overseas... would have same caveats as child labor.
- Narcotics - The most lucrative business in the world would thrive in a lush, tropical environment of an obscure Caribbean island under the iron fist of the beloved El Presidente

Politics
- Patronage - Before elections you could give out free t-shirts, food vouchers, have a car driving around non-stop blasting your slogans... just the regular stuff you see in Latin-American elections.
- Puppet Vice President - Who could step in when things get to hot (better the revolutionaries' bullet strike him than you), make him a scape-goat whenever your plans go awry or have him serve a term while you sit one out for constitutional purposes (Like Putin, but there are countless Latin examples of this).

Social
- Youth Group - Because all totalitarian govs need to indoctrinate future generations
- Labor camps - It was suggested before, having them located in the swamps... It's a good idea
- Festivals - The previous version was the "Mardi Gras" edict... but on-screen things wouldn't change. You could have religious festivals (a pilgramige on the island, with a giant Jesus/Virgin/Cross and people following behind), Carnaval (seen frequently in Europe, but probably the most famous takes place in Brasil).
- Canonization - Canonize a local saint and have his home/workplace/death spot become a local shrine. El Prez could bribe some cardinals for this to happen and then the religious festival could have people from all corners of the island come here to celebrate (and if you build enough bars, restaurants, shops around you can also make a nice pile of cash)

Military
Invasions - Nothing riles up that pro-government feeling like invading (or being invaded) a foreign power (think Argentina and those sheep grazing islands they so badly wanted). I know this is out of line with the feel of the game, and wouldn't want it to turn into a military/empire building sim, but a feature could be implemented kind of like in Caesar/Pharaoh/Zeus city-sims... you select some of your soldiers, send them off and then get a text if their raiding/harassment mission went succeeded and what goodies you get. For the foreign invasion, you'd antagonise someone until the point that they send a commando raid. On screen it could be like a rebel-uprising. If you fend them off, you got yourself a Bay of Pigs and a hold of power forever... if you lose, well... just like the rebel-uprising you are dethroned.
Secret Police - Every month/year they could give you a summary of things to look out for (socio-economic situations) or suggest people that you target for a bribe/heresy/incarceration/assasination

Carnival is a great idea. I want a Soca carnival just like on Trinidad and Tobago!

RE: Some very useful suggestions for Tropico 3! - Razael - 19-06-2009 09:43 PM

Fom the previous post i think only the Invasion of rebels will be in the new game. All other suggestions, as it was said before in this tread, are description of an entire new game.

Icke Wrote:Carnival is a great idea. I want a Soca carnival just like on Trinidad and Tobago!

Something based on African antecedents would not be acceptable in today's European game market. Your carnival has to have a different name.

Carnival in Trinidad and Tobago originally had its roots in both West African festivals and French Catholic Mardi Gras celebrations, where masks were donned and "social" visits ensued. When the use of drums and religious practices were prohibited, slaves (and then former slaves) found novel ways to pass on their heritage.

Carnival then grew with African influences from the slaves who added singing, dancing, and music to transform Carnival into what we see today. Carnival is celebrated two days before Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent. In the earliest times, similar celebrations were held at the end of crops being harvested, hence the Crop Over celebrations in some other Caribbean islands.

However, as harvest festivals were reduced, the festival time became co-terminous with French colonists' celebration, the pre-Lenten festival tied to the Roman Catholic carne vale (farewell to meat), in preparation for fasting and religious disciplines of Lent.
