Player made map - JohnOnTheHighSeas - 06-05-2012 05:44 PM Hi, I've compiled a map using artwork taken from screenshots of the game. The map displays the locations of the ports and their produced goods. It's fairly basic but supports:- Pan Zoom Search I'm happy to share my map freely but don't want to step on Kalypso's or any other copyright holders toes. It's simply meant to calm some of the upset about the missing map and make the game more enjoyable for the players. So my question to Kalypso is are you happy for me to share the map? Please note any response will be considered to be on behalf of Kalypos and any other copyright holders. Hi Walt, I meant no ill will just wasn't sure if you felt that it might take value away from your Collectors Edition. Always better to get these things sorted before any one gets up set and / or cease and desist letters. RE: Permission to share a player made map - JohnOnTheHighSeas - 06-05-2012 06:33 PM Hi, Appologies for the slight delay I had trouble finding a suitable cloud site to share it on. Simply extract the zip file on to your desktop and open PR3Map.htm with your favourite browser. I put the map together using FireFox for testing so that would probably be the best browser to use if you have it. I know IE9 has issues with the map and as I don't use it I've not spent the time to coax IE9 into rendering it properly yet and probably wont. For dicussing points of interest on the map with your friends you can get the co-ordinates of your mouse point from the title bar. There may well be missing ports and the odd mistake. If you find one just send me a PM (with the co-ordinates for missing ports). If you're having problems with the map please use the forum thread to discuss it so others might benefit from the solutions to any issues found. The labels have small red arrows on one corner which points to the position of the port (IE9 doesn't show them properly). It was not possible to use a consistent corner of the label for all cites as they're quite close to one another in some locations. Rather useful seeing the locations of each good on the map. When you said it supports zooming, did you mean the browser default Ctrl + mousescroll? RE: Player made map - Papasteve - 06-05-2012 07:50 PM nice work, I had no issue with IE, windows 7 RE: Player made map - Reod - 06-05-2012 07:52 PM Really nicely done. Yes, though it may vary from browser to browser for example on my android tablet (using FireFox) it's pinch to zoom. CTRL + F can also be used to find the names of towns as the page is made up of multiple layers so the text is searchable. Kind regards, JohnOnTheHighSeas RE: Player made map - TheWindupMan - 06-05-2012 10:42 PM Wow, thank you so much for this! It's extremely helpful. There are quite a few towns that I missed just because the sight range of convoys is so low. I combed through the areas the towns are in, but I must have just barely missed them. Thanks again! RE: Player made map - NotTheMessiah - 06-05-2012 11:25 PM Thank you for the map. Awesome. Is there anyway to make it a printable size? Hi DaveLogan, Thank you, I'm glad so many people are finding it useful. I notice in your thread you asked for a PDF version so I've added exactly that in both A4 and A3 sizes. Both contain exactly the same detail just with different resolutions to suit the different print sizes. I've not actually tried printing them as I don't have a suitable printer. If they don't work out I suspect you could get pleasing results from the PNG file and one of the many online printing services. I was surprised how reasonable A3 photo printing is now (a few euros). Kind regards, JohnOnTheHighSeas RE: Player made map - DaveLogan - 07-05-2012 05:12 PM Thanks. You're the man! The A4 prints out well.
