Free mode? - iQue - 13-09-2009 02:06 AM Been searching the forum and google for a while now, so I'll just make a thread and hope no one has answered it before: Will there be some sort of "free mode" in the game? I don't know if it unlocks after you play the campaign or something (as I haven't had time to finish it yet), but it would be awesome to start with an empty island and build what you want, if only to screw around for a bit. Will there be some sort of mode like that? The campaign already gives a fair bit of freedom but this is something that I would really enjoy! Anyone know or maybe a dev could answer me as well? Both for the demo and the full game? Thanks a lot RE: Free mode? - shadowx8001 - 13-09-2009 02:27 AM Ya I need a free mode from the start. I dont wanna do a campaign or anything. I just wanna get in and build a town. Free Mode is a deal breaker for me
RE: Free mode? - kanamit - 13-09-2009 02:38 AM Not a dev but I'm 99% sure that there's one in the full game but not the demo. RE: Free mode? - shadowx8001 - 13-09-2009 02:42 AM I sure hope you're right! RE: Free mode? - James009 - 13-09-2009 03:26 AM Freeplay is on the "New Game" list but is grayed out because this is a demo. I'm 110% sure that there will be a freeplay just like in Tropico. RE: Free mode? - myhotpockets - 13-09-2009 03:28 AM There is a sandbox mode listed in one of the menus and is mentioned on some of the achievements. RE: Free mode? - iQue - 13-09-2009 04:58 AM Hmm, must have missed that. Thanks guys, now I'll be sure to pick it up! RE: Free mode? - MaSteRByPoLaNd - 13-09-2009 12:41 PM Hmm mode is free after passing the mission to save the game and load again and it works![]() PS: Sorry for my English RE: Free mode? - topleya - 13-09-2009 06:14 PM There is a sandbox mode just as we had in T1 ![]() Would have been a major mistake if they hadn't of made that option. RE: Free mode? - Bornswavia - 13-09-2009 06:26 PM topleya Wrote:There is a sandbox mode just as we had in T1I wouldn't buy it if it didn't have free mode. Sorry, but that's what makes the game for me. RE: Free mode? - Milani - 13-09-2009 06:48 PM Bornswavia Wrote:I wouldn't buy it if it didn't have free mode. Sorry, but that's what makes the game for me. That's probably also true for me. I hate being pressured by time limits and objectives in games. RE: Free mode? - Timo - 13-09-2009 06:50 PM It's an essential feature of the game and was included from the get go. And since it's always cool to have set goals to achive, the Challenge Editor will spice things up even more. And since it's always cool to have set goals to achive, the Challenge Editor will spice things up even more. I have a question about the sandbox mode. Is there an option to select an unlimited game length? That's one of the things I loved the most about Tropico 1 and disliked the most about Tropico 2. RE: Free mode? - City Builder - 15-09-2009 01:51 AM Bornswavia Wrote:I'm sure we'll have choices like T1. I hope. Islands seem pretty large in the demo. Land masses seemed pretty large in Grand Ages: Rome too, but there were limitations in where you could build on them, either the landscape itself prohibited it, or aqueduct placements prohibited them. Hopefully T3's islands are more allowing to be built on than GAR. RE: Free mode? - Luwinkle - 15-09-2009 03:59 AM The islands in the demo were somewhat large-ish..but the actual useable building area was quite small. I had GIANT islands in T1. RE: Free mode? - myhotpockets - 15-09-2009 04:08 AM I hope there is some sort of an island creating menu where you can use sliders to adjust the features of your island such as size, mountains, and rivers (if there are going to be any). RE: Free mode? - Luwinkle - 15-09-2009 08:45 AM Oh there are weirder things on the buildings. Look at the giant roof air vents on the Construction building. Whoever did the texture for that took a picture of a 60mm PC fan and used it as the texture for that. That same fan-picture is on a few giant AC-units on a few buildings. RE: Free mode? - City Builder - 15-09-2009 09:06 AM Luwinkle Wrote:The islands in the demo were somewhat large-ish..but the actual useable building area was quite small. Yah, even the first island in the campaign in the demo is decent sized, however If i had to guess, I'd guess that at least 60% or more is unbuildable landscape with rock, cliffs, mountains etc. But that's the way it was in Grand Ages Rome too, and I didn't suspect it would really be much different in Tropico 3 since they are based on the same engine (from what I've read), so the only real hope is this Random Map Generator that I've seen people write about and hope that it can do a decent job of creating maps that give enough space to build upon. That will be very interesting to see how that turns out. RE: Free mode? - Pi-Xerxes - 17-09-2009 11:12 PM Greets: Hey, just like GAR you can use HPKExtractor to unpack the PAK files. Then you can add a iron mine to the first map just like the GAR demo. So not just a logging economy. ![]() If your good at Lua 5.1, you can add in more scripted events, change the victory conditions. Even unlock a few more more buildings, as long as the 3D models are in there. I am glad they have alot more buildings in this game Tropico. I think it will be a winner. I like the Challenge Editor idea, gosh knows I love one. I like to make extra missions custom too. This has rich gameplay. It is possible (but not really practical) to make a random map, but it would be alot of work to create a program to mimmick the binary. Maybe they made a random map generator for type of Island you want like in previous version of Tropico? One only small sniglet, is there a way to remove the obnoxious large GUI off on the bottom left hand side, or make it much smaller scale? It hides up too much of my beautiful Island. |
