Anyone ever do a campaign without using summoning? - redgreen - 22-01-2011 09:41 AM

Was wondering how it would go without using summoning at all. Or perhaps only using summon runes that are won in battle and eliminating them from stores.

I've just found that I don't really care for them in Disciples. Maybe its just because they seem to be featured and in D2 they were not such an empahsis.

I find that as long as summons are in game, that I explore the map with reckless abandon. Knowing if I am horribly outmatched, I can just spam a couple summon runes and the battle is generally turned.

Even if they are balanced so they are not OP but strategic, I don't like them. Maybe because I was just playing Etherlords 2 which I like, but it is all summoning. It just feels out of place in Disciples. Disciples was about the uniqueness of the leaders.

I get the feeling one can get by without them, it would just mean leveling very carefully, and scouting diligently.

I'd rather just limit summons to the world map. More as a way to scout the map.

I dislke them most because of the weak battle AI. Summons act like a magnet for AI melee units if put in the front. Your other units will get away nearly unharmed. If they are balanced in cost I think I can live with that.

I didn't do the campaigns without summons back then, but now I'd do it without them. Just stack agility for your main hero and get your armor as close to 99 as possible.
