Would be really nice if it was possible to completely lay out your island before hand without spending the money. Then you click on a ghosted structure an it begins to build when you want it to.

Things will now require blueprints. Would be cool to have a blueprint of your whole island. I'm always frustrated trying to visually lay out my island in my mind as i continue through a challenge.

Would also be nice to be able to plot your crop an where it will be planted

Could be useful. Personally I would not want to plan out the whole Island in that way, but it would be good for masterplanning new areas and districts before commiting yourslef to expensive mistakes because a building is one tile too far over to allow another next to it.

That's a suggestion that's been made for many city building games, unfortunately I've yet to see a city building game development firm actually act upon the suggestion.

There are some games like the Cities XL 2011 game where it would be most useful to preplan the city layout instead of laying down the real buildings and then having to go back and destroy them so that you can place what you really want that wasn't available until later in the game, unfortunately that request fell on deaf ears over at home focus as well with regards to their upcoming Cities XL 2012 product too.

It just annoys me when I'm a fraction of a centimeter off and have to destroy a building because I can't fit the building that I want in the space that I left for it.

oh yah been there Smile .

as for the Pre-designing, i think the main reason that most game developers shy away from a Pre-designing system in city-building games is that it would take away pretty much all the gameplay early on in the game. i mean the player will simply finish designing the island in the 1st 10 mins or so after he starts playing and then all there's left to do is sit back and watch while the game earns enough money to complete the planned projects.

When I read you could pre-design Islands, it brought me back to my days of horribly beating everyone in Civ4. But yeah. I plan to exploit this feature on my islands, just to keep Tsunamis away.
