Yeah I see that now, it would be nice if the various windows during the game would say that. In T3 the sandbox configuration says nothing about that, and the "few years left" window doesn't mention it either. I'd like for random events to continue past that time in T4 too, but at least I know I'll be able to play past the official ending point.
I got curious and checked my old Tropico saved games, some of them go to 2030 or more. I don't know what it is about games like this where I keep playing well past the point where the game is considered 'won' by any reasonable definition.
I don't know if anyone here ever played Space Empires IV, but
here's a screenshot from my longest running game. The games start at 2400.0 so it's been over 770 turns, and I've played more since the screenshot was taken. I marked the ringworlds and sphereworlds I made. Usually making a single ringworld or sphereworld means you've 'won', since by that point you can wipe out every other empire easily.
The "IV" part of the title apparently means "Hook it to my veins!" to me.
In the T3 map I'm playing, I hit y2k just as I was starting to add tourism. I have like 800 population and nearly everyone is happy. Except me, since, GRRRRAW, I built the stupid skyscraper hotel BACKWARDS! :<
