Question Change installation directory for PR3?
Hi. I installed PR3 on C: , but on C: is soon not enough space and I just copied the whole PR3 Folder into D: (where there is more then enogh space) and deleted the old one on C: - but everythime I want to start the game an installer is starting and the new patch is getting downloaded. And after that I can see that the same PR3 directory (that was deleted before) is again on C: and the game is starting the .exe from there and not from D:

Any ideas how to change that? Im sure there is somewhere a registry and I just have to change there the path to the .exe in D:?

Thank you

Pretty sure that when you go through the install it asks you where you want the files placed, C: being the default. At that stage you should be able to change the install path to one of your choice. To that end i suggest you do a fresh install and direct it as needed. Unless its a Steam installed game, then im not so sure..

Somehow I have no choice about the install path... its really funny, I tought its normal. I mean the game is fun, with patch 1.1.4 I dont have any trouble - its just that: i need my 4gb on C: and the game cannot be there ^^

But then again, if I copy the whole directory and try to play frome there it should work - should, but its not working, thats weird too.

If you have a STEAM version then you are stuck with where the STEAM Client installed to originally. If you have a retail version or a digital download from anywhere but STEAM you can only Uninstall the game completely and reinstall it to a new partition D:

In general if you are running out of space on C: - then Housekeep otherwise you will soon have performance problems - Windows pagefile and temporary files will run out of space. I suggest you perform a tidy on C:or if you have unallocated disc space then add it to C:

STEAM INSTALL
All your STEAM GAMES will install to the directory .....\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON| game name you have no option to install elsewhere STAEM relies on the game files being in this folder.

Digtal Download or Disc install. - which I guess you have if you copied the game directory.
Then copy it back and then uninstall the game using the UNINSTALL facility on the disc or from control panel - make sure all the APPDATA files are deleted - BUT keep SAVEGAMES and TRADEROUTES - save these to your D:

Then reinstall to D: - use the option to install to a different path.

Alternatively learn about the little known NTFS feature called 'hard links', its how I typically shift folders out from their predetermined spot and off to another disk, useful for things like the steam games.

if you want to move the directory to another disc hardlinks is not the correct choice NTFS junction points would be better

Aye actually we're both not quite there yet, Symbolic Links are what I meant to offer up and what MS has been leaning towards more recently since they have the advantage of going cross file system and access remote ones as well as local, plus all the backward support to hard and junction links as well.

Using file location alias is not a good idea. You will have problems, if you have a harddisk fault - then any repair can break the link, also changing file attributes to edit / modify has the potential to break links. Maintainence overhead.

It is much easier for the average user to maintain their harddisks using standard partitions.

Let's not make this a discussion on the technical pro and cons of HD support and architecture. PM me.
