Sometimes there is a star above some of my buildings and I just want to know what it is.

It signifies that El Presidente (your avatar) has visited the location/building to improve building time/work quality/productivity.

if you didn't already know, you can right-click him 'over there' to do these deeds. meaning, select him and right click on your latest construction project and he'll go over there and bless it (speed it up some). same with farms for increased productivity...

A very nice feature. You can also give speeches from the Palace for a reputation bonus.

Or boost the speed, efficiency, etc. of about anything.

My Presidente likes hangin around the schools. And the Foriegn Ministry. We like to keep the superpowers pleased...

Yeah, the Foreign Ministry is nice too. I just noticed that you could do that about four minutes ago.

I usually have El Presidente patrolling between farms, pubs, and mines to increase production. It certainly helps.

What does it mean when there is a garbage bag with a red dash over it above a building?

I'm not entirely sure. I think it's that either the building isn't making any money or is unprofitable (as with a Ranch I built) or that nobody is working there.

Again, not entirely sure. A simple icon guide or GUI support would be nice.

If it's the icon I think you're seeing, my guess is that the building is unoccupied?

No, that's the one with the head crossed out. This is a garbage bag crossed out. It wont go away on my cannery.

haven't played much and i've only gotten the prez star icon but a garbage bag could mean some sort of pollution. is the red dash over it (negative sign) or thru it like a "no smoking" sign?

I would say a dash is horizontal and a slash is diagonal.

If it is a money bag with a slash, it might mean no income or source of income cut off.

It means that the building has no output. This happens with farms in the first few months.

It means that the inventory is full at that location and a teamster needs to come and pick up the goods. Also I think production at that location stops until the teamster does this.
