El Presidente Returns as Kalypso Media Announces Tropico 4 on PC!
El Presidente Returns as Kalypso Media Announces Tropico 4 on PC!

Bracknell, UK – 13th August, 2010

Following the worldwide success of Tropico 3, Kalypso Media is pleased to announce that Tropico 4, the next title in the bestselling strategy simulation series, is currently in development by Haemimont Games for Windows PC.

News on a possible console version of Tropico 4 will be made available soon. In Tropico 4, El Presidente returns to the island of Tropico, and this time, he’s bringing new enemies and allies along for the ride, as he fights to turn his little island into a superpower. New content and gameplay features will influence whether our fearless leader can create a feared superpower, or become nothing more than a smalltime banana republic ruler.

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times – geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers -- and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges.

If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 features all new missions across new maps and includes exciting and fun new features to keep the action fresh and challenging. You can even elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial decisions passed through the government. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda!

Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration (PC version only). Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements.

You can even take screenshots of your island and post them on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator ranking on the online leaderboards. Every little bit helps when you are bringing your island into the 21st Century!

Features:

  • New campaign consisting of 20 missions on 10 new maps
  • 20 new buildings including Stock Exchange, Shopping mall, Aqua Park and a Mausoleum to El Presidente
  • Six new Interactive disasters including volcanoes, droughts and tornadoes
  • Council of Ministers - appoint selected citizens to ministerial posts in the government to help push through your more controversial decisions
  • National Agenda – receive objectives from Tropican factions, foreign geopolitical powers or opportunities relating to current island events such as ongoing disasters
  • Facebook and Twitter integration – post live Tweets directly from the game or create posts automatically upon completion of missions, unlocking achievements, etc. Store and display achievements on a Tropico 4 Facebook page and see their how your Dictator rankings fare against other players (PC only feature)
  • Screenshot gallery – take screenshots of your tropical paradise and share on your Facebook page (PC only feature)
  • Trading system - import and export goods to/from other nations to boost your economy or production

Tropico 4 is currently in development by Haemimont Games and is scheduled for release in Q2 2011. For more information please visit http://www.kalypsomedia.com

Long live El Presidente!

Most surprising announcement of the month, sounds great

Seeing that the game engine is the same as Tropico 3, is it safe to assume all edicts and buildings from T3 and it's expansion that were there before will be included?

That is great news! I can't wait for the new game. Hopefully the developers would have taken a look at all the suggestions and ideas posted on this forum and perhaps put some of them in the game.

Map Editor please. I also hope that Tropico 4 would have more content than Tropico 3.

It would be nice ... if some of the issues found in T3 were fixed in T4. But who am I kidding, I'll buy it anyways.

Agree, garages really,REALLY, should go. They frustrate newcomers, don't make a whole lot of sense (at least in their current incarnation) and are still a nuisance once you have building a city down.

This is great, hadn't expected it so soon!

I really think these new features are very interesting:
* Council of Ministers - appoint selected citizens to ministerial
posts in the government to help push through your more controversial
decisions
* National Agenda – receive objectives from Tropican factions, foreign
geopolitical powers or opportunities relating to current island events
such as ongoing disasters
* Trading system - import and export goods to/from other nations to
boost your economy or production

That's some heavy changes!

I do have a point of critique immediately though Sad. The shopping mall looks way out of place. I mean, even in Western Europe you'd have to go to a big city to find such stylish, modern super malls. Let alone you'd find it in the '50's on an island like Tropico Tongue.
I like the addition of cruise ships, but in that third screen it looks a bit too big (definitely for such a small dock). The addition of red, yellow and pink trees are a bit over the top in colorfulness too.

Is looking forward to donning the El Presidente title again.

Great news.

Screen shots look great (potential new plants / wildlife?)

Looking forward to the release and no doubt I'll purchase it to go along with T3 and Absolute.

Don't get me wrong, looking forward to it. But looking more forward to the reviews. It looks like an expansion pack. The screenshots are alike to those of the first screenshots of Tropico 3 and all the buildings look the same!

I am skeptical to say the least!

Me too... Some of the promised features may make the game play more like a standalone game rather than an expansion pack, or may not. We'll have to wait and see.

It looks like something that should have been done for Absolute Power. Also, looking at the screenshots I am thinking whether there will be a terrain tool so that we really can make squares of concrete and an ability to make borders on this concrete. I would also like an easier way to position buildings. I do believe, however, that for another game to be produced and be as successful as Tropico 3 then Haemimont and Kalypso will have to do some really hard work because your ordinary Joe ain't going to see any difference and therefore wont buy!

I have been thinking this myself, I held back from saying anything not to sound all negative.

It does look like extra content that was made for absolute power and then some bright spark said " wait, we can use this content for a whole new game. Cha-chink!"

T2 was worlds apart from T1, I don't think the same is going to happen here.

I have nothing against reusing the same graphic engine, which was quite fine in my opinion, but of course there needs to be substantial new features to make it interesting

More options to customize random islands would be nice also

Now that you have mentioned it, I think you are right. The graphics do look the same as the one in Tropico 3. Of course there isn't anything wrong with the graphics of Tropico 3 (in fact, I thought it was really good). But I expect more from a stand alone game. Hopefully this is still in early development and things will chance later on. Even if the graphics remain the same, I hope the gameplay will improve dramatically enough to show us that it is more then just a glorified expansion of Tropico 3.

Please don't disappoint us Kalypso! We are counting on you!

Yeah, i noticed that too, but since this is probably an early alpha screenshot they most likely haven't made any of the building models yet.
