Tropico 2 - can you fight off a Coup?
So I had a coup occur a couple of times in Tropico 2. Mostly due to unhappy crew members who I would constantly send out on missions, and I needed the money, so I gave them the lowest cut possible. Sure, it makes them angry, but isn't that what Guards are for? =p
But here's the thing that annoyed me, and I'm not sure if this always happens or not. But my pirates where unhappy - but ONLY my crew members. My Palace guards had 10,000+ in their person stash, all highest ranked pirates, lived in mansions, and had all their needs meet constantly. I also had 1-3 forts, so in total I had something like 8-16 Guards. ALL my guards where fully trained and maxed out in Marksmen and Swordsman ship skills. All of them where highest ranked, highest paid, and all lived in Mansions. In other words, my guards, standing outside my Palace with Rifles, LOVED me.
But my sea-crew pirates didn't. So I got the message "a coup has occured". Game over. Wtf? Is that really how Coups go in Tropico 2? Shouldn't there be AT LEAST a chance to fight it off, like in all the other Tropicos? I had 8-16 completely Loyal guards, why in the world could they not defend me?
The even more screwed up part, is when the Coup occured, I had all four of my Palace guards, standing outside my Palace on guard duty, all Loyal and extremely happy. Yet I get the message "coup occured pirates stormed the palace and cut off your head" or whatever. I'd like to know how those "unhappy" pirates managed to storm my Palace, past my guards, without a fight.... Very lame! My guards could have easily overtaken the lowly ranked, and lowly trained unhappy crew memebers.
Yes, I eliminated many unhappy ones, but I had so many that would simply fill up their position, and become unhappy, that a Coup was going to happen to matter what if I didn't Donate lots of money to all the crew. And why should I be forced to do that? Especially if I need the money. I don't understand why Guards, at least happy and loyal ones, can't defend your Palace in a Pirate coup????? Or am I missing something?? Is there a way for Guards to Defend your Palace in a Coup? Or is it simply "game over, don't matter that you had your Palace guarded to the Teeth - you still lose cause.... cause the game said so!"
