RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
Looks like the release date is March 21 of next year. For an expansion I'd like to see:

1) Major improvements to the transportation system.
2) Ways to spend the money in your Swiss Bank Account (i.e. Have an "island" in the game that El Presidente owns - or can buy - and allow him to purchase luxury items to build the island out like a mansion, yachts, sea plane, etc.

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
I haven't come that far into the game. I am on mission 4, and I mostly play sandbox mode. But what I would like to see in an expansion, or maybe even a patch

- Slower time. Maybe days and weeks added to the months and years we have now. Or just weeks.
- Earlier start
- More interaction from the other foreign powers, and not just risk of invasion from US or USSR
- Additional transport methods
- Housing having garages
- More diversity in buildings. Both basic, industry and resource gathering.
- Pearl industry Smile

-Have a Remove trees icon, instead of cutting them down or just bulding roads.

-Parking lots.( I really hate when the garge gets overfull whit 4000 cars when i have only a population on 250)

-More editcs.

-Every industry/Farm/Mine should have there own cars.

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
All I can think I want right now is busses but that means adding a new buildings and adding in the ai each and every tropican to wait at a bus stop for it. If not that then at least larger roads so w wil lavoid tropics bugging and getting off their cars.

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
Like the suggestions in here

Another thing I thought off.

- Ability to tunnel through mountains

- Leveling tool in game. It makes no sense that I can't place a building on a slope because the ground isn't level. But at the same time if there is a small incline or if I place a road, the land gets a bit more smoth

- Bus stops could work. Sure you might add more trafic to the streets, but by placing bus stops, the tropicans would go to the busstop instead of walking. So you place them in distant parts of your island, where you have industry or farm or whatnot.

- Like the idea that each production have their own transport. Would help quite a lot for the workers. Can still use teamsters to pick up and drop of goods, but the workers park where they work, unless they are low pay, and have to go by bus, as they can't afford a car.

- More businesses. Advanced types. Not just going from sugar to Rum, or iron to weapon. But even more. Like car factory where you need iron as well as other industries working together to get that one. More uses of each resource. Why not add cocoa plants?

- More edicts would be nice. I haven't really used many of them myself, but would like to have more options.

- Ability to handle exports more detailed. For example. I think Sim City 4 or so allowed you to start several cities and you could connect them by roads to the edge of the map. So one city could be industrial, another could be commercial and so on. Allow a similar idea. We play and connect islands via shipping lanes or air. We dont need to see the other island, but if we played it, we can then form deals with it.

Question RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
(09-09-2011 08:43 PM)tropicoer Wrote:  I have found out that Tropico 4 Zeitgeist is being released. ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is "the spirit of the times" or "the spirit of the age." Zeitgeist is the general cultural, intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and/or political climate within a nation or even specific groups, along with the general ambiance, morals, sociocultural direction, and mood associated with an era.

Doubtlessly it is an expansion, but perhaps not in the ordinary sense of bigger (more, more, more - faster, faster, faster) but rather to dump completely the Cold War of the 1950s of which most buyers have no living knowledge. Rather, it will cut the game lose from its antecedents and move it entirely to the second decade of the 21st century. That way, players will not need any knowledge of history to understand any of the intricacies of gameplay or the built-in developer's wise cracks.

That is, it will be a "mood shifter."

I hope the transportation system will be better and skyscrapers that can house 100 people. Maybe more industry and the airport can be used like a dock.

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
I have to say that I am more concerned with tweaking existing game mechanics & expanding them further.

1- In particular changing the system so that free goods can be charged for, as well as a more developed model of privatization: http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=11067

2- Among my more minor concerns is making buildings more expensive initially as well as making their price increase over time (to reflect the increased cost of importing building materials).

To offset this, they could have more capacity, in terms of workers, goods or renters if houses. It also adds for the possibility of islands seeming larger merely by the fact that citizens would take up less space (which I currently think is way too large; I mean, 6 apartments in a two sided 6 story apartment building?).

Perhaps this could be done via an upgrade system (whereby you pay to increase capacity) as well.

3- Another thing would be to have both genders be able to work in any profession, perhaps done via an edict.

4- Perhaps having more that *GASP* one profession per building (like maybe 2 or 3; ie. managers & owners (if private)). Also, as mentioned above, if more one resource could be used in the production of good (I know I am dreaming...)

"Prétendre que l'homme ne peut pas et surtout ne doit pas corriger une situation dont personne n'est originellement le responsable, est à cet égard un pur paralogisme. Il est en effet irresponsable de ne pas agir sur des effets, même si personne n'est responsable de leur cause." - Alain de Benoist

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
I think that one we have a bunker, guard stations will become less popular among the players. A cool thing to do would be let the guard station have different work modes. House soldiers would be the same as we have now, a guard station let's us have three more soldiers. Machine gun nest would put one soldier with a heavy machine gun in the tower. He couldn't move, but he would have a longer range, more life, and be able to kill more people. APC garage would house an APC. It takes two engineers to operate, and it would require a weapons factory to be present on the island. The APC would leave the garage when a coup or rebel attack commences and drive towards the scene of the attack. It has for times as much life as one soldier and can kill twice as many enamies. Undortuantly, it requires twice as much upkeep as a regular guard station. And it moves the same speed of soldiers off road.

Another idea would be a use for the swiss account. I liked an idea I read a few weeks ago about spending it on character skill buffs.

PLEASE create an industry for ranches. The only reason to have them in late game is to do export missions for the middle east and China. A creamery makes processed milk out of cattle, and a textile factory makes cloth about of llama wool. ( Also a great chance to add cotton as a crop.)

I think it's kind of odd how the police never arrest ciminals. If you have a prison cell open, every policeman should arrest one criminal per year. Wiretapping and secret police decreases the time it takes to arrest one criminal.

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
1) Dynamic Importation, the more goods you import the more expensive they become, the more of one good you export the cheaper it becomes. Watch your ledgers and what you ship carefully.

2) Good storage for Tropican use, you have warehouses and you can elect to immediately ship goods or keep a certain amount of goods for distribution to your citizens, via markets and malls. Different types of markets, a grand market and a small market, would be nice with small markets doing basics and grand markets doing more exotic purchases, and goods like furniture and jewelry going to the Mall.

3) New power, a neighbor island. This rival will send troops to attack you, try to undersell you or get more foreign aid. You get constant updates on your rival, and have more options based on your investment in espionage.

4) More diplo options/consequences. Lend your troops to a NATO taskforce if you wish, and incur penalties with middle east, china and russia but make friends with US and Europe. Trading is related to relationships: Goods from China are cheaper if you have a good relationship, but trading with china may hurt your relationship with Europe.

5) New industries, including textiles. Plant cotton, make clothes, ship or keep for your tropicans use. Be able to turn your ranches into Dairies and make milk and cheese for sale in your stores.

6) Buses and Bridges. Set up bus routes to efficiently move your tropicans, or invest a TON of money and build some bridges, overpasses to avoid clogs.

7) Rebels will attack inbound/outbound tourist ships and freighters, unless you have a coast guard! Coast guards also help you fend of rival invasion forces, but of course are no match for US or USSR.

8) Dynamic faction feedback, as one faction gets popular you see visual confirmation. As nationalists get stronger, flags start appearing on every building, as loyalists grow stronger you see more posters of El Presidente.

9) More edicts and building skins.

10) A tech tree and dynamic research lines. Investing in one research line will please certain factions, unlock blueprints, allow quicker good production, allow for new products to be made, increase happiness, etc. So if one of the lines is military and you funnel your treasury into military research, you get blueprints for armory, unlock the coast guard, espionage missions get easier, etc.

11) Espionage. Send your spies to the four corners of the earth. Try to learn of possible invasions, bribe countries into liking you, steal blue prints/technologies so you can get benefits without the prerequisites. Inside trade, etc. Careful, spy missions can get you caught!

12) Bigger soundtrack, more variety.

Tropico 4 has only just been released and they are already planning an expansion?
couldn't they of just put more of this stuff that players are asking for into the original?

but, I guess I would like the ability to place concrete, grass or stone tiles to have parks and shopping streets and stuff like that.
also more sports and open areas
and why is there no elementary/primary school?

In no particular order...

1) No more "theme park"-style buildings, but a golf course & different types of bars/dance clubs would be nice for tourists - give me a British pub for my English ex-pats.

2) More Cult of Personality buildings/scenery - loudspeakers (T1), El Presidente billboards, different types of El Presidente statues, more more more El Presidente! (I LOVE THE MAUSOLEUM!)

3) More Edicts - El Presidente Day (similar to National Day w/ fireworks), Military Parade (with visuals - kind of like when El Presidente gives a speech and the crowds gather - I'd like to see my army goose-step in front of the palace)

4) Heir Apparent option - let El Presidente pick a wife (like choosing ministers) and let him have children like the other Tropicans. If "Papa" El Presidente should pass away, "Baby" El Presidente can assume the role (of course he may have to fight off a coup, uprising or civil war)

5) Wardrobe Changes – El Presidente can go back to the palace and change his wardrobe whenever he likes (there will still be the “iconic look” his statues are fashioned after).

6) Post-Soviet International Diplomacy (see Historical Accuracy post)

7) Regional Diplomacy with Caribbean neighbors

8) Bridges and/or ferries to smaller islands

9) MORE building skins primarily for all housing

10) Swiss Bank Account perks - the ability to purchase extravegant items/palace upgrades/private jet

11) A Paramilitary force with their own look – they can rival/ keep in check the army, police and/or citizens if need be – similar to Papa Doc’s Tonton Macoutes

12) A Large Tropican Flag

13) "El Presidente Square" - similar to Gadaffi's Green Square - just a large paved square patch of land buildings/decor can be placed on top off - a gathering place for all lovers of freedom and El Presidente

14) Map Editor – ability to add water/large rocks/individual trees

VIVA EL PRESIDENTE!!!

I really like all these ideas, I would like the ability to place some sort of sporting field which I can then choose to be either a football (soccer) pitch or a cricket square, it could be upgraded to have some small stands and then open up the edicts; 'Host West Indies Test Match' for the cricket oval which causes a big boom in the ovals popularity and income as well a tourism increase and 'Host International Fixture' for the football pitch giving similar benefits.

The addition of a public transport system (bus) would be amazing.

I would also like to be able to stamp my own ideology onto my island to a greater degree. At the moment almost any island I make functions the same way and all factions end up equally happy, I would like to be able to have a greater differentiation between being an absolute b****** of a dictator and being a nice one, and more contrast between being a communist fanatic and a capitalist who wants to see his people chase the 'Tropican Dream'.

RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
After reading the forums I have come up with the idea of a 'Classic' or 'Retro' DLC. One of the requests for tropico 4 was more/different music, this was given. then people started complaining that, actually they didn't want the new music they wanted the music from tropico 3. :\

So how about a DLC that adds the tropico 3 & tropico 1 soundtrack to T4 plus adds the Tropico 3 building skins to T4. so for example you could have a yellow AND a blue Grade School or a blue AND an orange Hospital. Im sure these skins are somewhere as the colours were changed in a late stage of development.

It would be a small DLC so it would only cost $1.00, £0.59 etc...

The music royalties would cost a fair bit more than that.

Allowing people to setup their own playlists into Tropico 4, at the cost of say, ~$2.00 (USD) or ~£1.00, would be feasible, as people could hook up their own sources and then have whatever they feel is appropriate.

Its an expansion for Tropico 4.

I wonder if thats the name that it will have in the English release too? Thats kind of a silly name for an English release I think. Reminds me of poltergeist or however you spell it. Like its going to be Tropico 4 with zombies.....

(Yes I know what Zeitgeist really means, I'm just saying what it *sounds* like to most English speakers. Wink )

I'ld love to see more options within trade to be able to block exports not just imports.

More map editor options. be able to add rocks or higher terrain level water for mountain lakes etc.

More industry options/buildings and new resources like copper and marble.

Better road network options, buses or island trains, sandbox game can become annoying once pop hits about 700-1000 people.

Tourism industry improved to make it more worth while

local shops to buy everyday items (could improve house quality or happiness)

Some more soundtracks and radio comments.. lets face it you gotta love the comments Wink

Entire families, including all children and grand-children, will go Rebel when their Retired parents are killed by El Presidente. It makes no difference the means he uses - they know the difference between "secret" police and army assassination squads and they lay it all on El Presidente.

Family members 13 and under will instantly emmigrate since they cannot go Rebel -- over-ride closed border.

edit add: The Unemployed are not stupid. When El Presidente starts killing them, they instantly emmigrate along with their immediate families. If emmigation is blocked, they and their families go Rebel the same as those of the Retirees.

Just deserts for a blood thirsty cretin who just so needs to build more buildings.

A Luxury Goods production factory, accepts all industrialized goods for rebranding and repackaging. After all, corporate licenses are hard to purchase. This will make Luxury Goods available to you for manufacturing and nationalists/loyalists will kiss for it.

LOL My suggestion is not that Secret Police "accidents" won't work. They will work as they always do -- the general public will be ignorant -- but El Presidente will suffer because the immediate family reacts differently when grandparents die in obviously fake "accidents."

Perhaps it's too much simulation of the real world. The mothers in Argentina and Chile knew when their children "disappeared." Why shouldn't Tropicans get very angry when Grandma falls under a bus -- what bus eh?

Have you checked your Secret Police for intelligence?

Except in Argentina and Chile, the people "disappeared" were known political opponents and dissidents. Whereas there's nothing even remotely suspicious about a random geriatric in a what may very possibly be a crime ridden third world nation with healthcare this side of Equatorial Guinea dying of unknown causes. There are no known historical examples of a "Logan's Run" policy in South America or anywhere else. The closest that comes to mind is Aktion T4, but that was specifically against the inherently infirm, rather than the German equivalents of orange-juice drinking retirees in Miami.

Exclamation RE: Tropico 4 expansion ideas
Sorry! I keep forgetting to remind the developers of the widespread use of seaplanes or amphibian airplanes in the Caribbean during the latter half of the 20th Century. They provided many small islands with air connections.

Just because PopTop missed the clue to give Tropico a cheap air connection is not reason to keep them out of T4.

Oh well. Rolleyes

On June 2, 1927, Juan Trippe formed the Aviation Corporation of America (ACA) with the backing of powerful and politically connected financiers who included Cornelius Vanderbilt Whitney and W. Averell Harriman, and raised $250,000 in startup capital from the sale of stock. Their operation had the all-important landing rights for Havana, having acquired American International Airways, a small airline established in 1926 by John K. Montgomery and Richard B. Bevier as a seaplane service from Key West, Florida to Havana. ACA met its deadline of having an air mail service operating by October 19, 1927, by chartering a Fairchild FC-2 floatplane from a small Dominican Republic carrier, West Indian Aerial Express.

The Sikorsky S-42 was one of Pan Am's earlier flying boats and was used to survey the San Francisco-China route

Pilot - SUNDAY SEPT 25 10|9c
The Pan Am crew faces both opportunity and peril as they juggle their lives, their loves, their hopes and dreams while flying around the world to glamorous international cities.

Maybe they will fly to Tropico? Those crewmembers could be great new avatars!
