Return to Tropico with “Junta” DLC for Xbox 360 and Windows PC
Return to Tropico with “Junta” DLC for Xbox 360 and Windows PC

Bracknell, UK – 3rd November 2011

El Presidente and his Minister of Communications, the wondrous Penultimo, are pleased to announce that Kalypso will release a new DLC pack for Tropico 4 for both the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC. Dubbed “The Junta”, the new DLC pack will be available for 400MSP on the Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace on the 9th November and via the Kalypso Launcher for Windows PC on the 11th November for £3.49/€3.99.

The military-themed Junta DLC includes -
  • New Building: “Bunker” - functions like a larger and more expensive Guard Station, does not require generals, houses five soldiers.
  • Character Trait: Veteran (Avatar performs better in battle, improved militarist respect)
  • Character Outfit / Vanity Item: Dress Uniform (female)
  • Decoration Items: Guard booth, Small observation tower, Camouflaged ammo depot, Concrete barricades, APC
  • Mission theme: “New Sparta” - build a militaristic society while being constantly pressured by the rebels

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times – geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers – and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges.

If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 features all new missions across new maps and includes exciting and fun new features to keep the action fresh and challenging. You can even elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial decisions passed through the government. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda!

Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration (Windows PC version only). Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements.

You can even take screenshots of your island and post them on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator ranking on the online leaderboards. Every little bit helps when you are bringing your island into the 21st Century!

RE: Return to Tropico with “Junta” DLC for Xbox 360 and Windows PC
I thought veteran was already an option...

Anyway, this looks interesting but overpriced. I'll wait until some more come out and there's a sale on Steam. But this pack will not significantly add replay value.

For the same price in Civ V you get a new civilization and scenario, which is pretty good because a new civ can be a whole new game plus a greater variety of opponents. Here? It's kind of nice, but nothing I'd really write home about. It won't change how I play the game significantly.

I'm sure it will be very popular. Good Marketing!

Maybe Swixel will have a few more things to worry about though.

It depends on the context of the language. In English, I am a veteran because I served a tour of duty. But I did so when there was no war going on.

In the US, Steam delivery is not pre-order - it installed immediately. I've got all the features mentioned in the write-up: mission, avatar outfit, trait, decorations.

How do I purchase this, exactly? I'd like to go to Kalypso and order a CD, rather then downloading it online, because I still don't trust that...

It's great that Kalypso are continuing to support this great game but i for one think the DLC is overpriced for what it is. In the UK it's priced at £3.99. It should be half that at most. i have started a topic over on the Steam forums Tropico section about this and we are all in agreement.
I'd very much appreciate if someone from Kalypso could get back to me on this. I don't want to see Kalypso go the same way as other great devs like the Dawn of War guys who bring out overpriced skin DLC's all the time.

We take complaints about content, theme, price point etc. very seriously. This is still a learning process for us, we just want to make sure to keep Tropico 4 fans and players busy with new content. Any constructive criticism is welcome.

This being said, the existence of this DLC does not rule out a full-fledged expansion pack for Tropico 4 a la "Abolute Power" somewhere down the road.

Thankyou for the speedy response. I'd like to add that i don't have a problem with you bringing out these smaller DLC's to keep the game fresh, it's purely just the price is unacceptable in my region.

So if possible i'd really appreciate if the price could be halved in the UK which is a fair price. I understand this may be difficult due to people who have already purchased at the current price.

In USA, the cost is $5 USD. That's a steal where I come from!

Beverly Hills?

I think they'll work on the price a bit in the future. When you consider the game is $40 and has 20 new buildings, several outfits, and 20 missions then you have to ask yourself what is proportional to that rate?

The answer is $2.

If I were to buy 20 new buildings and 20 missions at the rate of $5 each, the entire game would cost me $100, which is way too high for a game.

At $2, people wouldn't feel like they were being taken advantage of and it would appeal to die-hard and casual Tropico players alike. Hopefully this is the direction they go in. One thing I like about Kalypso is they openly admit they are new at this (DLC and DLC pricing) and feedback is important to them so that they can get it right. It's great customer service.

Id pay 2 bucks for it all day. But 5 is too much just for some new decoration and one new building.

There is also a new mission that should warrant about 1-2 hours of average play time for the experienced Tropico player and 2-3 for newcomers.

I am so happy to get more Tropico DLC. Thank you Kalypso!!

Regarding pricing, $5 dollars a package could certainly add up, but at the same time, Tropico 4 at $49 was lower in price then most 360 games, so I don't mind paying to get some additional goodies. Thank you very much!!! And woo hoo about decorations!

yeah, that's not worth any money. Basically just a challenge. Couple the 360 map DLC, and Junta DLC and its maybe worth 5.

Still, there needs to be some great stuff in the works to spice up Tropico. And then find some way to up Tourists numbers. Id take a hit in Population for more tourists.

I think a good thumb rule is that 1h of added gameplay = 1e + some extra skins and stuff 1e. So with this DLC, good price point would be 2.99.

Would it be fair to say if gameplay mechanics were to be tweaked or changed that would probably come in a full on expansion rather than a DLC?

I have T4 Special Edition on disc - so do I have to wait until it is available via your launcher and if so, when do you expect it to become available?

Thanks and Congratulations for all of the awards that T4 has [deservedly] won SmileSmileSmile

I accounted for the DLC when I wrote the first mod. The inclusion of the DLC in the Steam version allowed me to work around the issue by finding what I needed to fix.

Tyrannus variants should work around the character choices included in Junta, and not conflict too heavily. That said, using everything from Tyrannus and that would turn El Presidente into a small tank (APC not included).

Personally I'm looking forward to it Smile

Steam released early. The Kalypso site will release it on the 11th.

Steam requires Tropico 4 on Steam (AppID: 57690) to get any Tropico 4 DLC from Steam.

Yea, i hear ya.. to me 5 bucks, which is helping support a company, i think is a good deal. If this leads to more add-ons, and a better game in the end, im all for it.

Things i can get for 5 bucks..

A well drink at the bar, Sorry no good stuff for you!

A pint of good ale with a dollar tip

big mac+small fry.. (sorry can't get the value meal with the drink)

A dance at a girly bar, (one song, aka 3 mins of entertainment)

Just over a gallon of gas

5 dollar footlong from subway

2 day movie rental at blockbuster

2 slices of plain cheese and a coke (sorry pepperoni costs extra)

all and all, I think 5 bucks for an neat little add-on, a mission that i can play over and over again giving me many hours of enjoyment, and some other neat items, WOOT for more female avatar clothing! It sounds good to me. I always pick and choose what games i want to support and what games i wait and pick up gold versions 2 years later.. I tend to buy games from smaller companies, or companies that step outside the box from shooter number 395..
