25-66% off on steam made me create a steam account
Forcing people to get Steam =p lol. I never expected I would actually get steam until I saw the -66% for Tropico 4 and all dlc and -25% for Tropico 4 Modern times. I just gifted the copy I had to a friend that he liked the game and decided to get everything for me from steam since the steam expansion would not install over the retail box game. For better or worse I paid much less for all of them than when I bought Tropico 4 back when it came out , I paid 2 euro less than I would pay to get just the Modern Times here in Greece and just 8 euro more to get Modern Times through amazon (without the shipment cost). Not to mention that the DLC would cost me 9 euro anyway.

Tropico 4 + Modern Times + guide+ all 3 DLC = 28,5euro on steam
Modern Times in retail box here in Greece + all 3 dlc = 30+12=42 euro
Modern Times on Amazon.co.uk without shipping cost + all 3 dlc = 21+12=33 euro

I still do not like steam but I guess now I entered the circle =p

I agree. I don't like Steam either, but I "had" to sign up when my son wanted Empire:Total War.

I originally purchased the retail box, so I can't get the discounted DLC's. It's too bad the two are incompatible.

Welcome on board, you'll find that Steam isn't nearly as bad as people make it look to be.

And while you're at it, join the new and official community group for Tropico 4 on Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/games/tropico4

There may be a difference between the end user Steam experience and the developer/publisher experience.Smile

Right, as long as you don't care about actually owning anything. All you have is "rights" to an account, which steam can ultimatly ban you from which has happened.. Read that EULA so you don't break any rules.. But in that case you will lose any purchase you have made.. not to mention steam only works with steam versions of games.

But if you don't mind all that.. sure, steam isn't that bad.. atleast till the day valve decides to close shop.. Wink

I bought a game from amazon the other day, which actually Tricked me into buying it from steam. Amazon made no mention that steam was required.. atleast the game was only 8 bucks but still that seems like a pretty shady deal.

This is exactly how I inadvertently became a "member" of Steam too...
I really wish Amazon had been more forthcoming.

I quite like steam. my preference these days is to buy digitally. it's faster, easier and takes up less space!

there is that downside that if steam went under you would lose your games. Same thing for if you break the EULA, but you'd have to be cheating online to do that so its your own fault!

I do have some problems with games on it, but have about 15 games now and overall the experience has been good.

I have heard of people loosing accounts cause a friend was using them as well. Not sure if that is true, But if i own a game and want to let a friend play it, there should be no reason why i can't. You can't just lend someone a game with steam.

Another down side is you can only play one game at a time. SO if you have a bunch of people over, and mulitple computers you are screwed, the same as if you have kids that play.
