El Presidente Has a Green Thumb! New “Plantador” DLC Available for Tropico 4

New Xbox 360 and Windows PC content to challenge players agricultural talents

Bracknell, UK – 14th December 2011

Fans of El Presidente can now show off their less militaristic sides with the new “Plantador” DLC for Tropico 4. The Plantador DLC, available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC, which can be downloaded for 400MSP/£3.49GBP/€3.99, and adds new character traits, buildings, decorations and a “Research” mission theme that challenges players to become a captain of their island’s industry.

The new content for Windows PC is available through most online digital distribution portals and the Kalypso Launcher (http://launcher.kalypsomedia.com).

The Plantador DLC includes the following -

Get into the plantation business! Construct new plantations for more workers and larger fields, choose the "Plantador" character trait for improved agricultural production and export prices, and wear a sombrero. New decoration items include a water reservoir, a windmill, flower beds and trees. The mission "Research" challenges you to build a profitable industry while researching and unlocking new buildings as you go.
  • Building: Plantation - very large farm that can produce cash crops such as sugar, tobacco and coffee. The Plantation houses more workers and has more fields than the normal farm
  • Character Trait: Plantador - Improved agriculture production and export prices
  • Character Outfit/ Vanity Item: Sombrero - for male and female avatars
  • Mission Theme: Research
  • Decorations: Water reservoir, wind propeller, water tower and more!

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times – geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers – and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges.

If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 features all new missions across new maps and includes exciting and fun new features to keep the action fresh and challenging. You can even elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial decisions passed through the government. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda!

Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration (Windows PC version only). Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements.

You can even take screenshots of your island and post them on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator ranking on the online leaderboards. Every little bit helps when you are bringing your island into the 21st Century!

Please Kalypso, release this DLC and the Junta as a disc version. I hope you guys make a complete edition of Tropico 4. I would buy it even if the price is $100.

Can you use the new building Plantation in other missions or in a sandbox game?

Yes, you can use the Plantation in any other mission or online challenge!

You can also use the new Plantador Trait in any mission or online challenge as well as the decorations and sombrero.

You cannot place Plantations (or decorations) in the Map Editor, but you can when you start playing the challenge you created via the Map Editor.

It seems like North America is the only one that has this dlc at the moment. I hope they release it in Australia too!

It actually came in handy in the import mission, apparently the game doesn't check for DLC to disable. I wonder if they will patch that in an expansion.

I tried Junta and just didn't feel like it rose to its price point of five dollars. So I'll skip these from now on.

All of this stuff was in the original game files, the devs came here and said it was a joke, but now we all know that is was just more nickel and diming, and greed from Kalypso.

No I don't, I have the xbox version of the game and it isn't on the xbox live marketplace. I hope they either release the extra content on xbox live or bring out a game of the year edition.

So is this available right now for XBox 360?

Can you use the new "stuff" in the current campaign?

RE: El Presidente Has a Green Thumb! New “Plantador” DLC Available for Tropico 4!
I bought the plantador dlc and to be honest it was a waste of money.

The main reason i buy stuff is to add to my super economy on tropico. I thought this would make it easier for me to be an agriculture baron but it was so marginal. The plantation is basically equal to 1.5 farms but also takes 1.5 ppl and 1.5 building size. You are better off buying two farms to spread the geography of crops and minimising individual farmer to crop distance.

One could argue that the plantador trait might help, but its not worth sacrificing a more powerful oil baron, rum lord or others. Note I am not swayed by avatar (avatars look terrible on high res) or other perks.

If i were to fix it, i would allow upgrades ( eg wheelbarrow, plough, irrigation ) to boost output by 50-100% or more. This would make it worthwhile.

Will these items (and this applies to the other DLC) be available to be used in the Modern times addon and missions?

Will Modern Times already contain the DLC released so far?

Yes you will be able to use DLCs in the Modern Times expansion

Will Modern Times already contain the DLC released so far?

No they are not included in Modern Times

Answered in Bold. This is what I heard from Timo in another thread.

Kalypso has seriously lost its mind. DLC that's 25% of the cost of the base game?! For a single object and an associated attribute? Somebody in sales and marketing told some serious lies about that strategy.

What's worse is that you were able to build the Plantation when the game first came out if you bound a key to it. They later removed this with another patch and re-released it as overpriced DLC.

Thanks Walt, is there any particular reason that prevents these dlcs from being released in Australia?

For some reason the only dlc on xbox live is the quick dry cement one.
