Step:
1. clean install of the original game.
2. install 1.11 update
3. install the ROA (which is a small exe file and a big bin file in my case)
- if the default ROA installing folder is not in c:temp, then I think u mass up in the first step
- ignore the 'core game' issue
- the installer will extract the file from the bin file to the ROA installing folder, and then launch the true installer, which is made from nullsoft (should the nullsoft label)
- if a 'run' tick appears, u have installed it successfully
- the ROA is the same exe as the original game
hope u find my description useful.
The game has minor bug that although it allow u to create a 25 level character and give u 10000 money, if u accidentally bought a bonus(Like I did), the reset button will zero ur money.
superlydia,
I did as you wrote here but it seems the corruption is in the download from the site. The icon isn't even recognized. is there another download mirror??

RE: Problem with install / play of new expansion Reign of Augustus
My problem is this: The game is installing to a drive (C and my game is on drive (D I get the "core game not found" error after the installation completed. Now, when i go to bootup the game, the title screen shows up stating GAR:ROA expansion then it flickers to a black screen w/ the custom GAR cursor. But then it stays there. pretty cursor... on a black screen: that's it.
Can someone tell me how i can get the expansion to install on the right drive? why isn't it an option when accepting to let the person determine what drive they want it installed on... i mean if i can't fix this i'm out $19 bucks and thats pretty annoying.
long story short, I dont want this game or any other game installed on my OS hard drive, I want it installed on my game hard drive. someone please help. thanks.

I bought both games from Steam at the same time, and installed them. I've verified the integrity of the files, and they look okay.
Tried running steam in administrator mode, hasn't helped me out either.
Any help is appreciated..
Getting the same error message, Hempa.
Have you figured out a fix?

I have efforted 4 times either here or by email, no reply to my questions and waited long enough, My bank just refunded back the 19.99. Your bank or myself would gladly share how to do that!

I initially had the corrupted file problem and Reign of Augustus would not install with the two files provided. I then tried once more and used the file links included on the email that had the game key. I also used the free download manager provided. I was leary thinking I would get the same error but much to my amazement it went to the install screen.
I would suggest trying this if you received the corrupt file error. The game now has a much smoother framerate and the added features compliment the play as well. Thanks to Timo and the rest of the team for a phenomenal game.

RE: Problem with install / play of new expansion Reign of Augustus
Timo,
The crash problem with "Augustus" as described by a number of people above is not about the downloads, but about the placement of the executable files. (I am sure there were some people with download issues.)
The clues thoughout the thread are "trying to install on D drive" and "trying to install on 64-bit systems". This last is my issue.
With 64-bit systems (Win 7 or Vista), 32-bit apps are installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\. GAR, and GAR 1.11 do this properly, and run just fine on my 64-bit system. But once Augustus is installed nothing will run.
Just to check that my downloads were ok, I installed the same downloads on an old 32-bit XP system, and everything worked fine.
I Have a lot of experience as a software developer (probably for longer than most on this forum have been alive, but not quite since the age of Augustus....) and I would be willing to bet a lot of money that somewhere in either the binary files or the install scripts for Augustus that the path "C:\Program Files\" is hard coded.
I hope this helps. There may even be a file we can move or a registry patch as a work-around, although I have not been able to find it.
