Big Grin More Tropico 4 Tunes: Petition & Post
This has been an oft-mentioned subject of what many T3 gamers demand from Tropico 4, but for the sake of convenience and urgency (~4 months to launch!), I figured I would make a formal post here.

Haemimont Games: Please add plenty of great music to Tropcio 4!

While I enjoyed most/all of the tunes from T3, the number of them was simply far too few (15 I think) and became repetitive very quickly.

For a game like Tropico that we will play on similar style maps for many hours, I would hope for an extended playlist that doesn't get dull after only the first few play sessions. To achieve this, I think the playlist could be at least doubled (30+ songs).

So with 4 months to go, voice your support for plenty of great new music for Tropico 4 and feel free to link some tunes that you like for your own Tropico playlist!

*Disclaimer: I wouldn't hope/expect Kalypso/Haemimont to add any posted tracks, given multiple legal/copyright hurdles. Let's just trust in them to pick good ones (like most of T3's tunes).

I'm with ya there too Che. I actually despised Juanito as he was not only incredibly annoying (screechy voice) but had very little of value to add when he did speak up and his comments were far too recycled (he says the same thing each time an event is triggered ie. "whole bunch of filthy shacks" or new power plant added, etc.)

Whoever the new announcer is, their comments could use some diversity (3-4 unique lines per type of "triggered" event) and their comments could be more reflective of the situation in Tropico (like in T1, where your advisor actually cues you to problems on your island).

That said, still more beautiful Spanish/Caribbean music!

ps. What would you guys call the genre/style of music in T3? I feel Mexican or Mariachi-style music is very different from most of the stuff we hear in Tropico. I generally think of it as "Cuban" music. Can somebody direct me so I can find more great tunes?

What is a Caribbean theme game without La Cucaracha!

Okay, it's decidedly Mexican, but still...

IMO T1 had very relaxed latin-type music (Dominican) that went with the game and the advisor. Although I do really like T3`s music I enjoy the more relaxed, Banana republic feel. The T3 music went with Juanito. With Kalypso saying that one voice-over "may be familiar with Tropico players",perhaps more T1 advisor style, does anyone else feel there should be a return to the more relaxed music of T1 ?

I'm with ya there darius. I wondered the same thing about the "familiar voice." If Jaunito and Betty Boom are out...I don't know who else they could be referring to other than T1's advisor? (Btw, does anybody remember his name?)

And the relaxed music/feel from T1 would be nice, although I do LOVE some of the tracks from T3. I say make it a mix! If Haemimont takes this advice (I hope they do!) and doubles or triples the number of tracks, I'd say a good balance would work great, that way you can get excited for some of the upbeat T3-style music and have a more relaxed T1-style vibe for those longer play sessions.

I agree 100%
About his name,I don`t think he has one. I couldn't remember (but Raoul rang a bell) as I still have T1, Paradise Island , checked, and he doesn't introduce himself in the tutorial :[ . The man with no name. Hard to believe he wouldn't have a name though.

Shy RE: from the sidelines on music
I have the feeling that the musical background of a game would be most effective it were somehow keyed to the current action.

I haven't given this much regard before; I just went along with what was happening in my small list of game exposures.

TalonSoft's Napoleonic and Civil War games linked both music and specific sound effects to the action on the screen -- did they not?

The ANNO series links the tempo of the music to the current action, do they not?

Fast Food Tycoon 2 uses the music directly as a gameplay device -- set the mood in each cafe.

Virtual Resort I've mentioned in other threads, but it facilitates substituting your own music - or rearranging that supplied.

I opine that if fantastic 3D visuals are so important, why is it not just as important to have fantastic sound to match what is on the screen? Both the sound and visuals should flow with the gameplay.

Yes, T1 didn't meet that standard. All it had was an outstanding series of mood setting tunes which didn't interfere with gameplay. Still some players turned it off and missed the other sound effects. T1 followed the pattern of RRT2 which has music that is so RR - but I don't know why it seems so.

Or like Civ V that changes the playlist if your in peace or war, asian or european, etc.

Maybe the radio could play certain songs in response to certain factions increasing in prominence, the religious faction rising would give you a more somber playlist, capitalists more rock and roll, more tourism could trigger reggae tunes, etc.

He Has No Name

T1 gave the "advisor's voice" no name so the players would be able to visualize him in mental "free form" as they pleased. Just as they are free to visualize their "alter-ego" dictator in mental "free form" just as they choose.

When fans got together to discuss the game, they tended to agree on a name for the advisor voice for discussion -- but that was not an official designation. They also agreed to call the female Slob Tourist avatar "Bertha" - and other avatar naming contests happened.

Consider the "trope" of hero and sidekick as it applies to Tropico's player's avatar\persona and the "advisor" who really knows what is happening and whispers warnings --- Did Juanito and/or Betty Barf fit the role of "sidekick" - "second fiddle" - "butler" - or any other level of "number two?" This is the self-effacing guy who runs with you to the escape rowboat with only the slim hope a small part of your loot. So perhaps Juanito and Betty Barf were opps for Haemimont.

Excellent point!!!

But let me suggest that the play list should include both rising and falling states for factions.

I have a good suggestion for the falling approval of the religious faction: A fine CD recorded live in Port Au Prince, Haiti, by Jon Matarazzo & Logan Strand. Interra Records, Inc. Vodou - Ritual Possession of the Dead.

When El Presidente hears one of those tunes come on his radio, he might be shocked enough to build a couple of churches and to hire a flock of priests. Perhaps he might even build a parochial high school and a parochial college.

Assassinate the adherents of the Religious faction and they may be rasied from the dead to join your criminal population. The police can't cope with them -- only the Bishops can lay them to rest.

Was it really 15? For some reason it doesn't seem like anywhere near that many, more like about 5! Im trying to think of them now and there's only about 3 that seem to stick in my head! Maybe it's because they sound fairly similar and I can't understand the words but you're right in that the music does seem very repetitive. A few new songs would be a welcome addition.

Haha I hear ya! I've looked around for the full playlist/tracklist and from what I've seen it's only about 15-18 songs but doesn't even feel like that many. MUCH more music and diversity is needed, IMO, hence my act of protest with this post!

Thank you.
And /sign for more music & multiple radio speakers.

mb it would be possible to simply add your own music in a file in the game directory?
