Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
Ready to Rule? Find Out in the Tropico 4 Demo

Bracknell, UK, August 9, 2011

Kalypso Media is inviting everyone to show off their inner dictators with the release of a PC demo of Tropico 4 today. The demo includes four tutorial missions and one campaign mission, which will set players on a quest to become the ultimate leader of a Caribbean island empire.

In Tropico 4, players will assume the role of the newly elected El Presidente who must build his island’s economy from a financial backwater to a world class economic superpower. New features include interactive disasters, additional nations (including Europe, the Middle East and China) to negotiate with and much more. Grab the demo and get started building your island paradise!

Tropico 4 sees you return as El Presidente, the tyrannical (or benevolent) dictator of the island paradise of Tropico. The world is changing and Tropico is moving with the times – geographical powers rise and fall and the world market is dominated by new players with new demands and offers – and you, as El Presidente, face a whole new set of challenges. If you are to triumph over your naysayers you will need to gain as much support from your people as possible. Your decisions will shape the future of your nation, and more importantly, the size of your Swiss bank account.

Tropico 4 features all new missions across new maps and includes exciting and fun new features to keep the action fresh and challenging. You can even elect ministers into power to help get your more controversial decisions passed through the government. But remember to keep your friends close and your enemies closer as everyone has an agenda!

Tropico 4 also brings a new level of social interaction with the addition of Facebook and Twitter integration (PC version only). Post comments on Twitter direct from the game and have updates go out when you complete missions or unlock new achievements. You can even take screenshots of your island and post them on your Tropico 4 Facebook page and compare your interactive Dictator ranking on the online leaderboards. Every little bit helps when you are bringing your island into the 21st Century!

Hmm... there is nothing at all in the demo gameplay that differs from Tropico 3, that I can see.

Weird question... But does some music will have lyrics ??? Sad xD

Songs are good, but all instrumental... Even if i dont understand i LOVED the lyrics in Tropico 3, and it added a tropican feeling !.

But good demo to date ! but... Will we have some lyrics or all instrumental music ?

Disappointing demo. Has nearly put me off buying the game (though I was going to wait until other people's opinions on the game was when it was fully released)

RE: Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
Yeah it "runs" smoother but why does it look worse than tropico 3? I have everything maxed and it looks like T3 on normal. It is better optimized though, much smoother.

The game itself though.... Its just Tropico 3 with a few new buildings and features, it really feels like an expansion pack not a new game. I love the Tropico series but this is a definite "wait for it on sale" game for me.

Very disappointing, there is next to nothing in Tropico 4 that you could not have just released as DLC or another expansion for Tropico 3.

Yep, very smooth graphics.

I also agree that it does almost feel like Tropico 3.5 instead of Tropico 4. They recycled everything. The buildings all look the exact same. Even the speeches that El Presidente gives when its time for elections are the exact same!

Maybe thats one reason they priced it at $40 instead of $50 or $60?

I dont really care tho, Tropico is one of my favorite franchises of all time so if they put anything new out I would pretty much buy it right away. After playing the demo I have no problem paying $40 for this game. I actually already have it preordered. Smile

Dude your computer is very old. Try updating you graphics driver. 7600GT is weaker than the chip in Xbox 360 and PS3. Your graphics model is 5 years old and middle range and there is like 6 (soon) 7 generations newer Nvidia graphics cards.

I can't play the demo et but I really doubt that the game feels like an expansion pack with the added features. Even if it does, I don't mind because people who own the Xbox Tropico don't get the expansions.

To me this will feel like a new game since it will have the absolute power expansion on top of the added features and improves game engine.

I disagree slightly. The general gameplay is unchanged. The jump to T3 introduced roads and garages. That's worthy of a new title. Here the gameplay is unchanged as is many of the existing buildings, but more of everything.

Having said that, if the game is tuned up and the AI is smart I'm happy to pay full price again for all the extras.

Maybe T5 will have the next gameplay changer.

Tropico 4 will introduce drastic changes to gameplay with the task system, ministers, foreign trade options and the faction demands/desasters.

In terms of gameplay and mechanics, Tropico 4 is much farther away from Tropico 3 than Tropico 3 was from the original Tropico.

I like that they kept it more or less the same. The Tropico formula isnt really broken, so I'm glad they arent looking for something to "fix" by changing the franchise all around. I think Tropico 4 is going to be awesome. Its more of the same, but when the same is awesome thats exactly what I'm looking for! Smile

I cant tell you how many times a company has a really awesome game on their hands & then they try to tweak it in a sequel & end up screwing it all up. Nice to see Kalypso hasnt fallen into that trap. They have managed to keep the formula the same & just add some nice little touches here & there. (Ministers, trade, etc)

I've said it before & I'll say it again! I cant wait for September 1st!! Smile

Don't get me wrong: I'm still 100% definitely buying the game, I just think maybe 5 years in sandbox might have been a better choice for a demo.

RE: Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
I played it last night and really enjoyed it. A lot of the buildings and edicts are the same, but the people seem much more efficient and the traffic flow is much faster. I suspect many of the changes were done "under the hood" to counter the frustration of your workers wandering around aimlessly or getting stuck in a month-long traffic jam.

Couple of things I noticed:
--Looks like you can now connect your apartments and tenements to the electric grid for air conditioning. An apartment with the +15 upgrade is now the same as a house.
--The entertainment buildings now have a "maximum tourist spending" figure. Not sure how that works, as there are no tourists in the demo, but I'd guess they've revamped tourism, as a lot of people were frustrated with making money off tourists.

Looking forward to this one, already got it pre-ordered from Amazon.

Yea I noticed little things like that also.

I noticed it seemed like most people who have posted on here didnt play through the tutorials. I did, not because I am new to the series, but because I wanted the FULL demo experience. Smile

Anyways, on one of the tutorials I noticed that there is an Old Colonial Fort, which it says can either be used as a tourist attraction, or a place to put criminals. So I guess its like the pyramid attraction in Tropico 3, except that instead of either having it as a tourist attraction or a place to make money for your swiss bank, you can have it as like a free prison instead. Smile

Yeah, that's something that harkens back to the Paradise Island expansion for T1. The Colonial Forts can be turned into dungeons, which aren't the same thing as jails. They're more for re-educating your political opponents. Or you can use them as a tourist attraction instead.

Very nice job with the game. I found the graphics very clean and love the enhancements. The game plays smoother than T3. I have everything maxed too. Got to pop > 300 with no lagging very responsive. I look forward to buying the game when I get back from my vacation.
