All dev[eloper]s are clowns. This goes way back ... ^^
Anyways, Lyubo is a dev[eloper] and I can confirm as well that "ultra" quality textures are not available in the demo.

One wonders if it is affliction with Arthritis, Autism or Alzheimers which drives the need to reduce key strokes.

How far back is "way back" -- who was the cartoon character who had and used a "Way Back Machine" ??

It was "El Malo" who introduced the "Clown" tag. I feel sad that Lyubo has not noticed that El Malo has dumped 'Tropico' from his interest and does not even visit "The Cafe" now. So there is no one to call developers, "clowns" any longer. He should update his profile to assume his true stature to the newbies.

Anyways, Lyubo is a dev and I can confirm as well that "ultra" quality textures are not available in the demo.

Why not ?

I honestly think Tropico 4 looks a lot worse than Tropico 3 on the highest settings. So much that I re-considered buying it actually.

The Demo did a bad job at making me want to buy T4, which I initially planned to do. It turned me off actually. And what I gathered from other boards (GameStar.de e.g.), users have similar opinions.
And this is coming from somebody who spent 50h on T3+AP and absolutely loved that game.

I also think the right-click menu was a very bad design choice.
I prefer the one on the bottom. It clearly made navigating A LOT easier while building and didn't cover up important parts of the screen. Also, now you have to re-open the whole

Yeah, I'm going to wait for the game to drop in price to around 10€ or 15€ and maybe buy it then. But right now ? This pains me to say, but "no". Though you could easily get many more people on board as day-one buyers if you'd implement the better graphics in the Demo and have an option for the old menu.

It'd also be great to have a minimalistic notifications option, where no text is shown, just the symbol (on the ones on the bottom-right of the screen). Similar to the icons in Civ 5.

EDIT:
And just to clearify: the game itself is still as good as always and the new aditions are nice, eventhough it seems to be completely irrelevant how good your ministers are since they have no real purpose besides the edicts. I would have had no problem with importing it for ~35€ just to play the 20 missions and maybe 2~3 sandbox games.

by the way I was wondering in tropico 4, is there a reason to build more than One Dock's and one than more tourist dock's ? or it is the same with one.

One thing I found very distracting - the accents. It can't be that difficult to find a VA with a real Spanish accent. The fake accents are terrible.

Edit:

I agree that the menu should be on the bottom and not cover the screen like that. It does seem to have a few nice new features.

I agree, the accents are pretty bad. Seems like they actually got worse since Tropico 3. There is one thing that El Presidente says & I always think he sounds like he is speaking with a Scottish accent. Its very weird.

+1. Wow devs you've spoiled such a great game.
Sometimes all shadows in the game disappear for a certain period of time (during storm for instance).
And you have even removed Juanito! Wow, just wow.

Timo has stated that the graphics options in the demo are limited to keep its size down. You will be able to crank up the graphics in the full game to the level most of us would be familiar with on max in T3.

And I'm more than happy Juanito and Betty Boom have been put down!

George W. Bush: "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it." El Presidente agrees. Cool

I am very disappointed with this demo. It feels just like Tropico 3 with the Ministry and the tornado, the incremental update doesn't feel like much. i am now moving from a position of a must buy to a look at what the reviews look like 1st

Despite you feel and think abt the T4 anyhow, just try to support the devs to feed Tropico series and...the devs. Feeding the devs means feeding the Tropico.

If money lost, there will be no T5, T6,...

Will you love to see T5, T6, T7, won't u?

No Juanito Sad

Ah well, I guess we will have to do with Penultimo Big Grin

Still, on topic, the radio sound, even cranked all the way up is too low, I can bareley hear what the broadcasters are saying, in T3, I could hear Juanito/Betty just fine, with all the levels put on middle.

The more docks you have the more often you can import and export things. I noticed on my last run through a freight ship arrives about every 5 or 6 months. so with 2 docks two ships would arrive every 6 months (obvious math i know lol). I quite like how you can alter how much each ship brings in terms of imported goods too, pretty good feature.

Anyway, i cant believe how negative everyone is lol. I play on 360 but played the PC demo anyway and i had to run it on the lowest quality graphics (lol, Sad ). But even on the lowest i didn't feel they were unbareable. Out of interest i increased the graphics to the highest. It caused huge lags but i could still see all the pretty pictures, haha. I thought the graphics looked great, nothing stood out to me that made me feel they needed to be improved. Despite that the graphics are going to be improved, in the final game, as others have mentioned the demo was made as small as possible.

The menus i thought were fine too, really simple to navigate and made the whole process alot quicker. I personally dont care if it covers my screen, when i'm looking at what buildings to select i dont need to see what behind the menu window lol. Alhtough i'm not sure i like how you can't minimise the objective boxes (which stack up down in the right hand corner). I also havnt found a way to dismiss them after you accpet them? i accidently agreed to export coffee but i wasn't producing any. the only way i could get rid of it was to build more coffee farms, rather than change my mind and cancel the objective.

(wow, thats a long reply)

RE: Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
I bought every Tropico so far, but I will definitly pass on Tropico 4 and I will be very very careful with any new title coming out. That's a rippoff Kalypso!

What you sell here as a new game would in earlier times be called an "Update and Bugfix Patch".

Even the plants and objects to plant are completely the same, so the music, the buildings, the edicts, the speeches, just about everything. Why in gods name should I ever pay 40$ for it?

Sure, some fanboys will buy it and it's a good short-term cash inflow, but actions like this will ultimately ruin your name and bring in the long run a very bad reputation.

Stick with what is good and make it better is okay, but not like this, not in such a lazy cheap way.

RE: Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
Gotta agree with Walt here. Tropico 4 definitely stands on its own as a sequel (versus an expansion). The campaign alone is incredible with an in-depth story where things you do in one mission may have a good (or negative) impact several missions down the road without you expecting it. There are also some cut scenes. You find out who your friends are and who your enemies are. After one mission, all these newspaper clippings came flying onto the screen with headlines. It was pretty darn cool.

Over in the Steam forum, someone posted an initial negative review. Then after playing it for several hours they came back and amended their review to a positive one. You may not see the massive changes on the surface, but you do when you play it for awhile. I was in one campaign and suddenly the screen went kind of blurry and bright. I thought something was wrong with my monitor for a second as it had a "mirage-type" look. Nope. A massive heat wave and drought had hit my island. The game could have just said it, but it SHOWED it (much more impactful). I decided to conserve water. Now, suddenly, I had to MANUALLY water my Farms. Then fires broke out and I had to deal with that. GREAT stuff.

The voice acting also adds a lot to the game. In the demo I wasn't sold on it, now I am.

The interface is virtually perfect. Other games can take a lesson from Tropico 4. New buildings bring new consequences and new features (wanna clone yourself in the Academy of Sciences? Or how about joining the Roller Coaster, Ferris Wheel, and Water Slide together to form a theme park?).

By no means would I consider this an "expansion". The more you play, the more you can see the hard work the developers put into this game. It's GREAT! I think after some naysayers play it for awhile, they'll change their attitude like the person in the STEAM forums.

To the developers/planners/team: Thank you guys - you really outdid yourself with this release. The game is amazing.

Exclamation RE: Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
I have a question. Does windowed mode work properly in the demo? I keep setting Tropico 4 to 'windowed' and the game just...dies.

Well I can hear the music and it's running but it's not using any processor power and the screen never updates.

I have the steam demo running on an ATI Radeion 4870 X2 with drivers 10.9. (and games behave much better in window mode...much better)

I'd love to buy the game for the PC but windowed mode is kinda....well it doesn't work.

Any help would be great. Smile

You probably need to reduce the game resolution to less then your Desktop resolution;accept the new resolution before the countdown expires then switch to windowed mode.

Thank you for the reply...I've tried that method but the game still seems to become completely non responsive. It says it running in the task tray but the game never shows up in the window.

I don't know if this is just a demo issue or the game....I hope it's not the game. >_<

RE: Tropico 4 PC-Demo released!
people ask if there will ever be a demo for the x box 360. The simple answer is no because this game will never ever be released for the x box 360 till 2012. The reason is because there are to many competing, popular franchises such as Fifa and many others that will destroy this game. Kalypso missed their chance in August. They should stick to PC releases and leave console releases to the experts. Long live Bungie!!!!!!
