Then that was not our fault, it's up to the individual retailer when they ship goods to their stores.

As said, we shipped units to all major retailers, so it should be available shortly.

This seems to be a recurring topic for several Kalypso games, not just T4. Kalypso announces a new game and states a release date, and then on the stated date, eager customers start asking "Where is it?"

For T4: "Tropico 4 will ship for Windows PC on 26th August and on Xbox 360 in mid-September."

Now, when Kalypso says "August 26th," do they mean that is the date when the game _should_ be appearing on the retailers' shelves? (Which is how the overwhelming majority of consumers will take it to mean.) Or is that the date by which Kalypso has committed to ship to the retailers? If the latter, then you can bet that there WILL be some transit time required during which the product goes from the Kalypso warehouse to the various retailer warehouses (+ 2 days, minimum) and thence from there to the actual store outlets (+ 2-3 days). It would certainly explain why Kalypso insists "We've done our part!" while NOBODY has the game on their store's shelves. [Today is the 26th here on the US's West Coast. I checked at my local Best Buy and according to the Best Buy website, the game won't be on their shelves until the 31st.]

Well, it's not like it's an extremely popular game. I'd be surprised to see it in most local stores, especially considering a lot of them barely even have a PC section anymore.

I personally got my copy today from thehut. Couldn't pass up the Special Edition for only £17.99.

Most online places are now showing 16th September for the 360. Official release date or educated guess?

OK, that makes sense for brick & mortar stores. They seem to be mired in the idea that it's better to always have the game available on a certain day of the week than actually get the game out before it's available to pirates... but how does that apply to digital distribution? Surely the publisher gets to pick when it gets released on DD? And only one reason I read about for Tuesday being the dominant release date in the US actually holds up for DD: almost a full week for the developers to fix launch week bugs. I think that's a side effect though, not the real reason.

In any case, it's insanity for digital distribution to be unavailable when pirates have been able to download the game since the 20th. I don't see how it can get much simpler than that.

RE: Tropico 4: Official Release Dates
In the UK, both Zavvi and The Hut have a special offer price of £17.85 for the special edition but are saying that it is not available until 16th September....

http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/pc/...34181.html

http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/pc...34181.html

Is it correct that the special edition will not be released until then?

Thanks for any help Smile

You'd have to go higher than a regular employee I bet. Wink

Actually, I was just looking on the Walmart website at Tropico 4 & it says "Not Sold in Stores." Apparently you have to buy it online & they can ship it to you or to your local store for free. So looks like you wont be seeing it on the shelves in Walmart.
I checked gamestop.com & it seems to be in stock at all the local stores in my area. You might wanna check there.

Have you really got your copy of the special edition from The Hut? I ask because The Hut is still showing a release date of 16th Sept....

I have ordered a special edition from Zavvi who are also saying the release date is the 16th Sept.... if The Hut are shipping already I will cancel my order with Zavvi and re-order with The Hut - but I was under the impression that The Hut and Zavvi are just one company - they always have exactly the same special offers and even have the same registered office.... :?

ETA: I've just got an email saying my game has now been despatched Big Grin

Sigh. Wish the stores here would get of their rear.
Game did not have it in their release list,
Gamestop have a date of 9th september
Spaceworld Not checked their physical location, but did find it in their release list on 9th September.

When I asked Gamestop crew they said Nordisk Film was probably throwing a tantrum/hissyfit that was delaying launch.

Kalypso, do you have any update info for us poor Scandinavians?

RE: Tropico 4: Official Release Dates
Hey dear Kalypso,

While I absolutely love and adore Tropico 4, this shifting of release dates and zero news being posted when each one passes...yeah it's verging on EA level of dropping the ball. I've come to expect it from them because they don't release games, they release bugs with games attached. However they do at least send out some pretty public and out there news postings when something gets delayed.

August 26th goes by, no notice, no download. August 30th goes by, no notice, no download and now there's rumours it's not going be out till Sept 6th? Again with no notice, just rumour.

Come on guys, you are skilled and fantastic at producing games but you seriously need to communicate better with the end customer. One's who have pre-ordered from sites and stores have left numbers and emails available for a general update but no one has ever got one. I'd be happy to wait till Sept 6th if I was at least INFORMED by either your website (which STILL lists the 30th of August by the way) or by Direct2Drive when I can download this installment of the Tropico family.

Cheers and thanks for putting out games that are of quality!

PS

There's already pirated perfect copies available so this is only hurting the people who are happy to pay for your games. Like myself who has owned every tropico game (bought and paid for!).

I'm not sure what you are talking about......

It WAS released in physical form in the US yesterday. All my local Gamestops here have it in stock. August 30th has always been the US release date & they hit it.

It releases in digital form tomorrow, September 1st. It will unlock on Steam then & other download sites too I'm assuming. September 1st has always been the release date for the digital version.

I dont understand your post at all with all these different changing release dates & everything that you are talking about......

Wow that sucks. There's about 4 or 5 around here & all of them stock PC games & have Tropico 4. I'm not sure if the Best Buy here has it or not. I'm guessing it doesnt though since when I check Best Buy's website Tropico 4 isnt listed on there at all.

And that seems to be the case, because when I stopped in today, they could find NO indications that Best Buy even intends to stock T4. (Even though I _did_ get my T3 and Absolute Power at that Best Buy.)

With all this chaos at the retail stores -- "It should be available ____. No, make that ______. No, not that date either. Rather, we might have it three months after it has appeared everywhere else in the world." -- it's almost like we are being pushed towards Digital Downloads from the manufacturers or from Steam, whether that is what we want or not. We'll end up going digital because at least Steam/manufacturer has it while the retailers haven't a clue.

Which is why I pre-ordered through Steam. Buying physical copies of games is soooo 2005. Wink

Can we get an update on the 360 version? Since we are in September and all. I called a few gamestop and they have a new date of Sept. 9th, although I doubt this is right, or official.

EDIT: Just called around today and now US gamestops have the date as Sept. 28th. Which definitely isn't mid September.
