Your suggestions
1. I would really like to see that the icons for ships are going to be changed. We have way too less information about ships at the moment. You will only see the nation and the 'power' of the convoy. Please change this like in port royale 2. Show us the name of the convoy, like 'military convoy' or 'trading fleet' or 'name of the trader or buccanneer', the ships the fleet uses and the nation it's from. Please also give us the option to talk against other vessels to gain valuable information and also show the nation of the fleet above the fleet itself so you know what fleet you are dealing with without having to hover your mouse over it.

2. Let us be able to join a nation. I would really like to join the Netherlands as some kind of viceroy and take over towns in the name of the Netherlands. The towns will be under my controll, but the major advantage is that I will always be a strong ally of the Netherlands, and if my ports are attacked I will defend my ports in the name of the Netherlands. This means that I will not be marked as a pirate if I defend my ports against an enemy attack like we have now. If the Netherlands are at war with England as an example, and England attacks my ports and I defend my ports, my rep will only go down with England, while my rep will increase with the Netherlands. England will then also be my only enemy.

3. More customisation when it comes to the flag we are sailing under. Let us be able to upload our own pictures, or let us be able to have more freedom making our flags by providing icons which we can use to make our flags. More customisation is always a good thing!!

Furthermore, keep working on the bug fixes. My game regurarly stops working, which is pretty annoying and which makes me go back to port royale 2 because port royale 2 does not have these issues. If you guys keep up the good work on this game, I´m certain that it will become a great game! But please listen to all these suggestions here and implement some of them, because some things of this game are really unbalanced and maybe even broke. Some good things from the first 2 games, like the nice interface when it comes to encountering ships are really missing in this game in my opinion, and I would love to see that you guys listen to these suggestions in order to improve your games. You are already becoming my favourite developers because you make my childhood classics like Port royale and airline tycoon, so now I hope you can also listen to our suggestions to make it even better!

yep but i would like the option to be completely taken out because when in multiplayer games, the host can change the settings himself

13) Saveable settings in multiplayer, each time i join a new game it copys his settings when i try to create a new game of my own, also for my personal settings, each time i enter a new room my settings for personal change, would be nice if we had an option to make these settings sticky and wont be changed when entering/leaving rooms

14) Larger variety of flags, maybe even upload your own image of your choice for your flag? much like your steam avatar? would be really nice Tongue

15) Completely Neutral places in the world like indian huts which are completely neutral AI which u can buy from, they have trade fleets, ect, they arent apart of any nation, maybe some merchant towns, indian towns, would be nice, much like the neutral AIs in anno 1404 if u played that game

16) Sound notification when someone in looby/multiplayer room sends a message/enters room, when im alt tabbed i often miss people coming in and saying hi, then they leave cause i have no way of knowing if they are in there as i was tired of waiting for someone to join due the to lack of players looking for multiplayer

Pressing [CTRL] while you're in town, shows you which buildings and fleets belong to you.
All fleets have a circle around them, while they show up as blue dots at the minimap.
The selected ship has a larger circle around the ship, while the dot is turned to yellow.

Increase multiplayer pleasure: Take your time to read all this, it greatly explains what devs need to do to increase multiplayer satisfaction

>some of these have already been addressed by me and others but thought id put them all in one reply< (the ones which i feel needed the most)

1) Flags !! !! !! We need more flags, it's hard to tell who is who when we have like 3 flags to choose from...

2) Colors!! , in multiplayer personal settings we should be able to choose which color we would like to be , and also add more variety of colors, even go the whole 9 yards and add in a color mixer to get every color in the world!!

3) Joining/messaging sounds!! - I love to play multiplayer but not a fan of waiting hours in the looby for someone to join, so i alt tab and continue with other tasks while people enter without my notice, there should be a sound/notification each time someone enters the room or sends a message in the room (this should be a piece of cake to code and add to the scripts and implement in next patch, so please get on this fast !!)

4) The speed, 2x can be just fine but 3x is a lil too fast, add in 1.5x speed options and 2.5 speed options for multiplayer, also ive had some troubles loading trade routes while not being the host of the multiplayer game, not sure if it's a bug or not

5) Communication , the chat system in this game is terrible, i cant think of any game which uses the key "c" to activate chat, this system is very unfortunate and can take lots of time away which needs to be focused onto the game rather than trying to communicate with friends,------------------------------------>>>>>><<<<><><><-__---__--_---__--__--__----_---_>>>>> Display both the color of the player and the name when they talk in multiplayer<<<<<<<<<<<><><><--------_-_--_-------------------

-First way to solve this- As stressed previously in other threads, hotkeys hotkeys, !HOTKEYS!<--- by hotkeys i mean (yes i kno there are hotkeys) configurably keyboards, actually bind things where u want them) need to be implemented, this feature could knock this issue right out of the water !

-Add in-game voice system - push to talk or w/e

6) Add side-notes to your rooms in multiplayer, gives host more appeal and directly explains what they expect/want from players who enter there room and correctly advertises what type of game he/she is attempting to create

7) Winning conditions......... every winning condition is totally random and....... id say...... unintelligent, (stupid)........ there should be like.....
all the winning conditions aviable_ which is standard conditions no one chooses, and good conditions like destroy 300 of your enemies' ships ect,
but the only condition i really want is destroy all enemies' vessels/buildings until he has nothing left and you win.... this is the best winning condition and should deff be implemented

8) Ranking system, there are many ways a player can be ranked, but i believe there should be a ranking system in multiplayer, this gives competitive players something to brag about and something for all players to look forward to and build up >>>>> Example ___ each time someone wins a game,,,,,,,,,,,, they recieve maybe (something cool and pirate-like) like a medal or something, and u can use this currency to buy ingame items/boosts/ ect, this would --- again add something for players in multiplayer to look forward to as there isnt much, the current state of multiplayer is u wait hours for someone to join then u just play... just.. play, there's no ranking/rewards/decent winning conditions

How about an option to capture merchant ships? Right now, if the enemy fleet surrenders, you can only loot the cargo. Maybe expand the looting to take ships and crew also?

Also, I remember in PR1 there were different options to set your ships flag status like setting it to no quarter. If you set it to no quarter, they would always run whereas a few other options they'd just surrender quicker.

1. I'd like to agree with whom ever suggested that the reputation decay for nations needs to be lowerd on main map.

2. Myself finding it hard to get to nation reputation.

3. Also if i take out pirates that should give rep with all nations you would think?

4. Also agree with whom ever posted about making pirates a faction.

when planning traderoutes manually i wish there was an option for distibuting goods evenly among own warehouses, increments of 25% 50% 75% 100% or 10% 20%....100%
also useable for picking up goods.

teachers should be repriced, i've never had money for any training
last offer was 6.7 million gold for +1 range of sight and when i think how many towns i could build for that i pass.
since i never tried, i dont know if the teacher dissapear efter end session, but a lower price and only one time and then he leaves could justify a lower price tag

This thread will be the contact point for your ideas, wishes and suggestions regarding PR3.

I will read and note every suggestion, but have on mind that not every idea can be implemented.

Please understand that I can't answer every question at this time.

We are already curious about what is important to you in PR3 Smile

Kind regards,

Daan

I would suggest that "Kalypso Media" adopt a much more player friendly attitude towards custom game difficulty settings than it did with "Patrician IV".
I haven't had the chance to play "Port Royale 3" yet as there has been no demo availble (as far as I have been able to find out) and also I would like to have a UK language "Port Royale 3 - Collectors Edition" on physical media at fair price if that would be possible.

With respect to Patrician IV , then as far as I know then "Kalypso Media" never made any significant change to the difficulty settings to make ships battles and pirate (and general game) difficulty more like "Patrician 2/3" or e.g. "Port Royal 1" - I really liked "Port Royale 1" but hated "Port Royale 2" for the new ships battles engine/way - I like it when I can just freeze the battle and make the strategic decisions and then unfreeze and let the game perform the actual battles without that I have to play the game like a 3D shooter , so I haven't played Patrician IV for like ages and am very dis-satisfied with "Kalypso Media"'s attitude towards the difficulty settings/game play settings problem (I don't want to spend all my time in "Patrician IV" having to deal with too many pirates and spending all that time trying to perform ships battles. I think that "Patrician 2/3" or e.g. "Port Royal 1" did that much better...
For me both games series are/ought to be strategy and trade games with ship battle elements , and while I don't mind beautifull graphics then I do mind when a strategy and trade game is turned into an annoying 3D shooter or Battle simulator.... If I wanted a battle simulator or 3D shooter then I would have bought one of them instead...

Most needed things that I can see so far (in no particular order):

1. Auto-buy at warehouse.

2. Go back to PR2's reputation gain method: Trading/selling goods at a nation's town that are in short supply gains you reputation with the town and that town's governing nation. As it stands now, it's almost impossible to gain enough reputation to get a letter of marque. And the rep loss on nation alliance needs to be removed. In my current game, every governor wants me to build 2 or 3 businesses in town to gain 5% reputation. Ridiculous and not worth the time and effort involved, especially considering the reputation decay rate, which you may also want to adjust.

3. Ability to defend towns. If you try to attack a town or pirate hideout, you must first defeat any convoys that are in the harbor. The same should be true for a player controlled town when the player has a military convoy in the harbor. This way you can just park a fleet or two in port and not have to constantly be watching the town. I read there's a bug where if you take over a town, the number of soldiers in the town never goes up. If this is true, this needs to be fixed also. And you should be able to build more harbor defenses/towers. On that note, the harbor towers really should be changed back to PR2 style. The current method is yet another auto-fight, of which there are already too many in the game. We should be able to sail our ships around in the harbor and shoot at the towers, while they shoot back, instead of auto-sailing to an X and auto-attacking while sitting still.

4. Add the ability to manually type in quantities to buy/transfer, instead of the slider that sometimes defaults to a minimum of 2 instead of 1. It's also a pain in the arse/waste of time. If I know I need to buy 427 sabres and 123 muskets, I should just be able to type that in a box.

4a. On that note, why not add an auto-equip feature? All of my escort convoys require different amounts of sailors, which means after every battle I have to calculate what 70% and 30% of those numbers are so I can have the correct number of weapons for boarding and land battles.

5. Increase zoom-in level. When a ship is close to a town, it's almost impossible to click the ship instead of the town. The magnifying glass icon on the town can also get in the way.

6. In town, on the minimap, highlight the player-owned businesses and buildings.

7. Add ship info to the interface somewhere. Perhaps on the "organize" fleet screen. Currently, the only time you can see ship info is when it's offered for sale at a shipyard. Players are forced to keep a browser window open to a web page that has ship info, and have to alt-tab to see, for example, how many sailors do you need if you have a War Galleon, Frigate, and Carack as your escort?

8. Why this was removed for PR3 I have no idea, but if you defeat or capture an enemy that is escorting non-combat ships, you should get the option to loot them, keep them, and either let them go or sink them. In PR2 this was my main source of new trading ships, not to mention all the goods you could get. In PR3 I have yet to get any goods from capturing ships.

9. Reduce costs for training, or have a better scaling method. When I started a new game, I ran across a teacher that was willing to train my captain +1 in something, and it costs $10,000. By the time I eventually found another teacher, he wanted to charge $300,000 for the same thing. And the third teacher I ran into wanted $1,000,000! Now multiply those costs by a few different captains and several different skills and the costs are phenomenal.

10. Lower the requirements for economically taking over a town. Having to employ 75% of the work force is too high of a requirement. Especially considering the fact that as you continue to build businesses and help the town prosper, other merchants begin to build businesses also.
Reply
6) use CTRL! Wink
10) the AI only build businesses, if there is a need for. if you have build f.e. 5 corn and 5 fruits, the AI will not build additional farms in that town. maybe the 75% are a little bit too high, but i think it is easy enough...

2. After the patch you gain reputation by destroying pirate hideouts or convois or building the first warehouse in a town
3. Again already adressed in the patch:
"No reputation loss for player patrol convoys attacking military convoys"
This is just a solution till the in harbour patrol will be implemented

This has been mentioned, but I want to add my vote to it:

Remove the "repuation sharing"! I'm a Spaniard, and I hate the Dutch. I want to wipe Holland off the map when I'm able. I had a great reputation with Spain, and 25% with Holland. They became allies and now all that Spain reputation I worked so hard for has been cut in half, and I've gained with Holland, whom I hate and don't need or want reputation with. What a waste of all my time and effort.

I didn't mind the ships being able to run away off-screen and out of the battle in PR2, because you could simply attack them again. What was annoying was that as soon as the battle ended, the sails were magically repaired (I normally use chain shot, then grapeshot, then board ships). This meant you had to re-damage the sails all over again, and they could still flee again...

"Combat is simply awful". I disagree. I like the ship combat in PR3, and feel that it's a huge improvement over PR2. If you want to fight 3 ships with just a single ship of your own, then yeah, expect it to take quite a long time. How else could one ship possibly defeat three, if it wasn't being very careful? You could always learn to press the spacebar between shots. It speeds up the fights dramatically.

I totally agree regarding the "magically appearing" convoys, as well as pirate hideout defender numbers being messed up. I've attacked pirate hideouts and lowered the defender's number to..say 450. Immediately attacked with a second waiting convoy, only to find the pirates had magically multiplied to 580. As for the convoys, I got a letter of marque against Holland, and attacked a small settlement that usually belongs to Spain. I would attack with one convoy, defeat a couple of defending convoys, then send him for repairs while I attacked with a second convoy. I must have defeated at least 6 convoys in the harbor of this little town, and there were still more defending. I had checked the harbor of the town before I attacked, and there were no ships in port... clearly the game is magically creating defenders out of thin air, in spite of the fact that your wife will tell you exactly how many fleets a nation has at its disposal.
Reply
War between nations needs to have a higher minimum time. In my current game, Spain went to war with Holland. I immediately purchased a letter of marque, went and attacked a small town, destroyed the defending fortress easily and looted the town. As soon as I was finished, the war ended. That has to be the shortest war on record! I sailed from Port Royale to Charles Towne, attacked, and the war was over. So the war lasted at the most, 4 or 5 days?

i've seeen almost the same happened (short war) in my game, got my lom and sailed out to smash some convoys, fooled around for what seemed like days and got one and war was over before i could catch a second fleet Sad waste of good money them loms

ohh btw shortest war 38 minutes, so maybe we shouldnt complain to much hehehe

When the player attacks a town, the game checks to see if he/she has a letter of marque. This information is displayed on the popup window, along with "cancel", "manual", and "automatic". This popup window should also say whether or not the nation you got the letter of marque from has the military strength to allow you to annex the town you are attacking. Several times now I've conquered a town (being below the rank of Commodore, so I couldn't claim it for myself, plus there's the defense problem), and it was only after I defeated all the defending fleets and the town that I found out I could not annex it because the nation I got the marque from didn't have enough fleets.

Following example is just chosen to make my point:
When the US dropped the a-bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki the Japanese surrendered immediately due to the demonstration of power by the US. I guess it's the same here... they declared war, you took one of their few towns "easily" as you said and the dutch "surrendered" immediately only to not lose another town. It's not that far fetched, don't you think?

I experienced it too... only difference i captured/sunk about 4 to 5 dutch military convoys to weaken the dutch thus preventing a dutch assault on Havanna (i accepted a protection-mission from the gouverneur of Havanna). The war lasted for about one and a half week.

If it were the other way around (me capturing spanish military convoys or you taking a spanish town for the dutch), the war probably would've lasted longer than that.

Just guessing here. Wink
"Merchant and pirate were for a long period one and the same person. Even today mercantile morality is really nothing but a refinement of piratical morality."

The point here is that it's difficult to get your reputation high enough to purchase a letter of marque. Later in the game 99% of the Governors want you to build businesses to gain +5% rep. Your rep can drop significantly due to alliances (I've had mine drop by 41%). And you have to pay for the letter of marque. Also, the nation you attack will hate you and attack all your traders/convoys, etc, and it will take quite a while for your rep to go from 0 back to the 25% baseline. All that being said, you should at least have a decent minimum amount of time to be able to accomplish something when a war breaks out.
