Tropico 4 Newbie Questions
Hi All,

I've been playing T4 for a few days now and have a couple questions I can't find answers to.

1. Teamsters: Can these be placed anywhere or do they need to be specifically placed near locations that provide goods?

1b: Teamsters: How do you know when you need more of these?

2. Housing Conditions: How are you supposed to tell what kind of housing people want? There literally seems to be no method to the housing madness.

3. Garages: Is there a general radius that these cover? I mean just how far away from Houses and such can you get away with placing them.

RE: Tropico 4 Newbie Questions
1. Yes, you can place them anywhere. They will leave the shop in their truck & drive to where the goods are.

1b. You need more when you see a bunch of goods sitting around somewhere that need to be moved but arent being moved.

2. Everyone wants to live in a mansion. Seriously, the best housing you can afford is what you should build. The better the housing people have, the better they like it. I usually do tenements RIGHT at the beginning until I can hire a foreign minister & get the half price apartments, then I build apartments for a while. Later on when I get electricity going I throw up some condos & mansions for my elites. On most of my islands the poor people are lucky to ever get out of apartments. Wink

3. There isnt a general radius per se. The thing is though, the farther away the garage is, the longer people waste walking to the garage instead of being able to just drive quickly. I try to build little hub areas & have a garage close to each hub. So I will try to clump some farms together & have a garage there, then several garages in my downtown area, & at least 1 at the dock area. I basically try to have them close to anywhere people will be going frequently to minimize time lost walking.

1.Yes.. but remember later game or +500 people,, you really need to plan, Or your gonna be adding to the threads.. WE NEED TRAFIC LIGHTS!!

proper placement of industry and teamsters, and roads to get them home and to their needs is a big issue.. and takes planing.

2.just make sure you have enough teamsters/garages, and watch all of your inputs/outputs.. if everything is over filled, you need more.. If most are empty, or being picked up in good time your most likely ok.

3, housing is a great way to make money.. Just make sure you have enough, and make enough high end housing to bleed the rich dry!

dont forget you can now upgrade appartments and tenements.. with power. BUt leave a few lower end/not upgraded for those not making much cash

tropicans will walk to the closet garage, But for the most part it should be with in reason. For city, i would say a few blocks.. consiter a block about 4 appartments wide.. and sqaure.. (ill call that about 4-5 inches) say take a garage, drop it, place to appartments on either side.. thats about how far i want them to walk.

garage, app, app, road, app, app, garage... that is a typical block.

BUT.. remember houses seam to have a closer radius than needs.. Soo what i do is put housing close to a garage, then put the needs outside that raidious.. UNLESS, you have a full needs area,, like ent, church, market, ect.. sometimes you want to center the radious around them.

If you have farms they can go a bit farther.. Id say about 6-8 inches to the nearest farm.. But in most cases try to get about 3-4 inches, or a block...

Maybe ill upload some pictures later for ya..

each house has "Housing Quality" that can be shown when clicking at it. tropicans always go for the best quality that they can afford.

Don;t forget that after you have electricity you can upgrade tenements and apartments by adding air conditioning to each of them. It ups the happiness of the building 15% up.
