Screenshots thread
Post your island screenshots here, so others can comment and maybe even learn from them :-)

These images are from my first Sandbox island, so layout is not perfect. I still managed to get good income & no traffic jams until I hit over 1000 peeps on the island. These screenshots are from 1980's, currently I am in year 1998 (end is going to be at 2000), I have maxed out pop cap and everybody is living in condo/mansion and on late years, I had to start killing elderly to get more working people in. I also improved the city layout a bit, but I think these images are better goal than to "max out" everything.

Question RE: Screenshots thread
Interesting.

Is there a scale grid linked to the ground which you can switch on and off?

RE: Screenshots thread
Not in an useful way. There is a grid (farmland view) but it is not really useful for building stuff. I pretty much lay down everything by hand and I do not even aim for perfection, as you can see on my dual roads. You can build them straight on, but curves are hard to get similar. For straight roads, that is not a problem because you can always use certain buildings for alignment etc.

Looks good, do you also have full resolution sjots available? Just saying because your resize method seems to pixelate the screens a lot.

Yes I have, maybe I should upload them to some other service next time, when I am posting them to this forum. Anyway, you can go and see full size shots from my Steam gallery: click click

Sorry to interrupt, but I've got a question about the first set of images in this topic.

How did you turn off the haze that appears at the far zoom levels, that seems to not appear in your screenshots (images 2,3, 4), but appear in other peoples screenshots?

Thanks

I have no idea. My graphic settings are at max with everything except anistropic filtering which makes the game lag. I think it is because of screens are made smaller by my sharing service and they tend to pixelize so it gives you the idea that there is no haze, or it might just be that others have slower computer which cannot handle longer drawing distances. I don't know.

I played another "sandbox" on a online challenge map called isla del muerte or something. Sad thing was, that it was one of those challenges which do not end after 50 years, so I have no idea if I can manage to complete this game. Oh well, here are some screens again:

Rockin' screenshots everyone!

Hey z2z2z, how are those little roundabouts and loops working out for traffic? And with all those intersections, do you hit the road cap quickly?

RE: Screenshots thread
I'm not z2z2z but I can give my impressions on roundabouts and loops. They work. It is just a matter of preference if you want to build roundabouts or more alternative routes. Best way to keep your traffic in control is to have straight lines going all the places, where people want to go. That way, traffic goes by multiple routes which means less traffic. 1 way to achieve this is via roundabouts and loops, 1 way is to have a star shaped city, where your palace is at center and multiple straight lines go to each direction. Of course, on complex landscaped islands, you can never do a perfection, but those are good guidelines to follow.

And best noob trick is to not place garages straight to your streets. Build a short "strip road" where your garage connects. Same with construction offices, teamsters etc.

hey, it works good mostly in the T intersections. but sometimes cars take the long way while a straight way is open for them. like the road behind the palace, they take it going to the docks leaving the short straight way empty Sad. and yes this is my first time i see the road cap massage but i was able to bulid all the roads i need.

and as poro said. if you could build roads as good as his i dont think you need roundabouts. except for heavy traffic in T intersections which could be solved by splitting the end into two.

RE: Screenshots thread
i wish more of you guys posting screens from your islands so we could learn something or two. i did another island where the only resource is lumber (it was hard at the start) . i made alot of dead end roads trying to see how it will help the trafic . it worked good in the workplaces but bad in the city so i made some changes.

any suggestion on how to improve the traffic in the city is welcomed Smile

RE: Screenshots thread
Nice city!

A few improvement tips: Plan your apartment areas a bit more comprehensive way. Then you do not have to spend your workers for a garage every 3 buildings. Some double roads help with traffic, and you can also place your garage after a small "strip road" to avoid "garage is overloaded" message when road is overloaded. Most times, "garage is overloaded" means that the road in front of the garage is overloaded. :-)

With that map, building an efficient city is a huge challenge.

Lately I have been playing the "best player" -challenge, so that is the reason why I have not been posting any new pictures. I managed toreach 2nd position, actually 3rd, but first one is a cheater... Cities built in that challenge are just booze baron cities, so they are not that interesting to see. I try to play some other challenge tomorrow and post some pics from that.

All this symmetry makes me dizzy.

No, I liken my builds to a town center surrounded by dozens of villages and a couple industrial parks. Services get thrown in where they best fit in. None of those service centers for me unless I plan on developing tourism.

Yea, I always start off with a central town and a couple of productive 'nodes' around either farming or mining. Later, of course, these nodes become integrated into the greater city, and the farms are demolished. I used to reconstruct those demolished farms further out, but with the new import system, I make it a goal to eliminate farming.
