Of course he did! Everyone should do that... my city has already 6500 citizens Smile

Edit: I like that bit of terraforming you did with the volcano - must've taken a lot of time

Over, No more pics... Smile
Thx guys for the warm welcome.. Sorry for being such a picture spammer but I'm really proud of "Tropicana" and I wanted to share my work with other Tropico enthusiasts, such as yourselves.

Why such a city? Well I've seen many "bigger cities" than mine but more or less, they were all symmetrical piles of same type buildings (I'm not trashing anyone's hard work)...but I haven't seen nothing like Tropicana.
So the goal was to build a "realisitic" Metropolis...

I've managed not to use cheats but since I had in mind building such a city - I put all gameplay settings to "Noob" - except god mode (considering the elite Villa part would be blown away by the volcano now and then Smile)
Anyway...I'm looking forward into becoming an active member of this Forum..

Cheers Tongue

Trivia:

1. Lone villa behind the city is ment to be the Presidente's House for distinguished guests Smile
2. Island is around 30% bigger then it was at the start of the game (thanks to "road and garage near the sea" trick
3. The park around the mausoleum was initially green but turned brown by the massive shack occupation of new unemployed citizens when I first activated the population unlimiter GRRRRR moment
4. There are 2 roads going up/down the volcano - the nicer one facing the city while the other going into the industrial area
5. Presidente needs around 2min of real time travel from his palace to any suburb of the city Smile

I bow to greatness. I always start off with a good plan but then loose myself.

Have you ever played SimCity? If you can do this with Tropico, I can hardly imagine what your SimCity would look like.

Excellent, well done.

Don't be afraid of success.

haha thanks, but I'm far away from achieving grateness compared to you pros, there are actually many urban development details not shown in the pictures, but I don't wanna take this thread complely hostage Smile
Yeah, planning can be hard in Tropico but if you stick to the inital idea and keep an eye on the details, you'll surely succed Smile

yeah, I played almost all city builder games since caesar and pharaoh but I consider Tropico series having the most "soul" out of any other.

Firstly some very nice pics you did there.

Second I totally agree with your comments there. One of the things I note most about other cities I've seen is the very square look, and the same builds all grouped together, looks very unrealistic.

I prefer mixing them up a bit and a much more random placement of building types.

Seems most city builders prefer the flat land and everything in nice neat squares.

The only regret I have in my own city so far was accepting to replace/upgrade all the apartments and condos.

I never upgrade apartments and condos, instead, before they are being replaced I build them in logical places (and in large quantities). In fact, I never upgrade anything.

RE: Screenshots thread
Hi everyone, I decided to take a slightly different approach to this than everyone so far, I'm here to post some screens from what is the final version of my map A World of My Own.

Screens are taken from before any construction took place, I've spent many days going over and over this map, playing it a few times and then making more changes to the point now where I feel its good enough to say its finished.

I've gone to great lengths to create a map that had flat land but also plenty of hills as well, most of which are designed in a terraced and smoothed fashion to allow you to build roads and buildings on them. I also made the volcano much larger than the initial random generated one, making it much taller and more jagged around the top. I spent many hours just on the volcano to try and get as many tress as I could sitting correctly on the terrain, I know there are still plenty that are not on flat ground, but on the whole I tried to get most of them sitting on small ledges to try and make it believable, including lava/scar trails in some areas leading right down to the ocean.

As it's a sandbox mode map there are plenty of resources for long play, and I've not provided any specific challenges (having played through myself a number of times I felt the default weather, disasters, and missions/challenges that were offered was enough to keep you busy).

Lastly, more than happy to get some constructive criticism/feedback.

Anyway rather than babbling on about it for ages here are the screens:

A stock standard starting town:

The dock, a fairly long distance from town, but still easy enough to get to:

The volcano:
