Thank you Sad
I would check if you are getting retransmit or discard errors on your Internet connection. You may have an underlying problem.

If you are on XP then right click your Internet connection and you should get some simple stats that will show errors. On Vista or Windows 7 - the quickest way is to Run NETSTAT from a CMD window
RUN
CMD
> NETSTAT -e
This will display errors and discards. If you have a fair percentage then report it to your cable provider.

Even the best tech support in the world can not solve a problem if the user does not provide any useful information about his system configuration. See the "customer support" section in the game manual on how to create a system diagnostics file and send that to support@kalypsomedia.com

If you have more than profile created then you will have more than one user directory.

WINDOWS 7 / Vista:-
C:\Users\.......\AppData\Roaming\Tropico 4\users\user1\ExSaves

XP

Hi, I seem to be having a problem similar to cccp72, except the population 'magic number' I hit when the game freezes is around 450. My last game (started in version 1.03) I got to that population level in May 1979 and each time it hangs up. I've updated Windows 7 also, and still encountering the problem. Below is my info and below that is the entry from Action Center on the last hang-up. Thanks.

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
AMD Athlon II x4 635 processor (4cpus) ~2.9GHz
6144MB RAM
page file 1996MB used, 9761MB available

RE: Tropico 4 - Bug Reports Thread (Version 1.03 only!)
@cccp72 & @Hugo Chavez Frias

Looking at this - This error has been seen when a sound card or graphics card or both have resources in use by another running application. Something that you may not be aware of. Do you have any programs or applications that you use all the time or are in your STARTUP folder.

Some programs are "TSR" Teminate and Stay Resident - you run a program - it loads its modules (DLLs) but when you exit it - some of the modules may stay loaded. These modules may be using Sound or Graphics resources. This is a possibility but it may be worth trying to run the game without any other applications running and before you start any other applications.

Thanks, I'll try that, although I usually have other applications closed when I open the game. Is there any way to check what programs (or maybe background applications?) are using sound or graphics resources?

@Hugo Chavez Frias

Run TASK MANAGER - CTRL + ALT + DEL - select "Start Task Manager"
You probably won't see anything in Applications but Select the process TAB - third column is the CPU usage - if you have nothing running on the machine, then probably the top usage will be "Task Manager" - if there is something using CPU continuously you need to check what it is "GOOGLE" or other search engine.

Then try the "Performance" TAB and see what your usage is like - there is a "Resource Monitor" Button at the bottom. If anything is using more resource than "Resource Monitor" or your Virus Checker then check out what that is.
Word of Caution if your browsing for application names you will get a load of adverts for "Scan your machine" - "Optimise your PC" - don't go there !!

@Billyplod - Thanks again, well I tried that and the only processes using CPU were anti-virus programs and the Task Manager. It could be problems with my graphics settings, I use ATI radeon HD4200 and the program used to manage the graphics is a pain.

Yes I agree Catalyst Control Centre is not the most "user friendly" bit of software - I assume you have the latest version 11.8 (17th August release date).
I have sympathy – I have an older game that my virus checker keeps deleting because it gets a “Trojan” signature from the .EXE – I’ve flagged it with the supplier and the game developer but it seems it’s unique to my machine and set-up.

All I can suggest is that you report your issue to the support team at Kalyspo.
And try turning the game graphics down to lowest settings – then work up from there (if it works).
Try running the game off-line.
Compatibility mode, or even changing some of the program settings in Properties.

RE: Tropico 4 - Bug Reports Thread (Version 1.03 only!)
@Hugo Chavez Frias & cccp72

Could you paste your crash log (%APPDATA%\Tropico 4\logs or %appdata%\Tropico 4\crashes) in [code] tags? If it's not generating one, that's also interesting.

As neither of you posted it, nobody can see if there's anything wrong with the game, and as I've hit "magic number crashes" while modding I'd be interested to see what you're seeing in your crash logs (number wise). I think mine's related to blowing a few internal limits, so it's not a bug (just a list), but I'm more interested in seeing if I can help you guys at all Smile

EDIT: For anyone who needs it, the safemode flag should be "-safe" (added after the exe at launch, or through Steam)

I'm looking more for the Tropico crash report, the one ending in .crash within the dir, unless this is all you're getting ... though as has been said the introductory strings are a fairly generic sequence in Win7 crashes caused by every possible issue I can imagine Wink

For instance, I have this from when I was modding a new building, changed it, and forgot autosave had a building I no longer had in the mod!

I'm just sort of wondering if you're facing an engine error at the magical population limit, or if the application just simply crashes out. (I may not be a developer, or a member of the publishing group, but I'm interested in the cause of this error in the event that it's related to the way stuff is handled -- if it's serious enough, it'll block modding; but my primary concern is it's stopping people playing it, meaning less people are modding Wink).

RE: Tropico 4 - Bug Reports Thread (Version 1.03 only!)
Bought the game yesterday......just a couple of things so far:

1) If I save a mission.....and exit....when I restart the game, and try to "Load Game".....I get a message "This game requires DLC you do not have".....this is both on a regular savegame, and the autosave from Campaign Mission 1. This is annoying, to say the least.

2) If I try to run the game from c: drive....I get a message "binkw32.dll not found".....but if I run the game from the DVD, it launches OK.

3) Immigrants from the Bahamas don't have any flag on their information panel.

RE: Tropico 4 - Bug Reports Thread (Version 1.03 only!)
I cannot complete campaign mission 3, on "Caro Libro". At the speed I play, of about 30 minutes per game year, to do this mission in one session would take much too long - I'd like to get a good score, which takes time. So, obviously, I save occasionally. BUT once past February 1972 my saves will not load, and by 1975 I get lockups.
Today I was called away from my fourth attempt and left the game on pause. Returning after half an hour, it had locked up.
I have been in fairly frequent communication with Kalypso, who cannot repeat my problems.

With deep regret, this game has for me been a complete waste of money.

Ships go through one dock to get to the other dock.

Also...

Ship leaves dock, tries to go through land. As soon as it touches the land, it disappears.

Each time i save the game, the game slows down considerably, making navigation/building placement/menu selection very difficult. If however, i restart the game from desktop, then load the save game, all is fine (until i save again).

It's not a real "bug", there's just not enough space for the ships to maneuver properly, hence the "workaround" solution to let them go through the docks to avoid collision or choking the narrow canal you have there.

To avoid this just don't place your docks opposite of each other in narrow inlets.

Today I was called away from my fourth attempt and left the game on pause. Returning after half an hour, it had locked up.
I have been in fairly frequent communication with Kalypso, who cannot repeat my problems.

With deep regret, this game has for me been a complete waste of money.

I'm sorry to hear that, but if you're experiencing constant lockups and crashes, it is very likely due to a hardware fault with your computer. Can you please post your DxDiag report here (use code tags please) so we can analyze your system? Please also check system temperatures and try disabling memory modules one by - most frequent crashes can be attributed to memory timing problems.

Our email support team tries to reproduce any reported errors by following the steps you describe that lead to your computer crashing. If we can not reproduce the error on any of the testing environments available or the description isn't precise enough, we typically can't do much to assist here other than give the advice posted above.

You need to create it:-
To start the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.

Click "Save Information" and save it to a .TXT file
If you post it use the "Insert Formatted Code tags" # so it scrolls in a window

Detailed instructions on how to create a DxDiag and contact tech support are found in your game manual.

Hello Timo

I am using XP / 32-bit / service pack 3
2.9 ghz intel pentium / 1 GB ram
nvidia Geforce GT 240 - ddr3 / 1 GB

updated to version 1.3

IS the problem with my computer specifications? i do meet the minimum requirements?
or something else?

I can play the game smoothly but afterwards, something happens and the game just locks-up/ freezes.

thanks

OK, I think that this could be a bug.

Does the game INTENTIONALLY deplete your Swiss Bank account to zero in the Campaign mission where the USA thinks you killed JFK and puts Nixon Parody in charge? (He's not a crook!)

Thanks.
