That's an interesting glitch. Please send the savegame to support@kalypsomedia.com, link to your forum post and ask to have the savegame forwarded to the developers for investigation.

Please note, though, that there may always be some unpredictable consequences to using the DLC buildings within the main campaign as it wasn't designed with those in mind - at the same time, we wouldn't want to lock you out of those buildings just for the sake of keeping the campaign in vanilla condition.

I crash every time ingame, randomly. I don't know what the heck is causing it but here is the error message I managed to find-

To SMGJohn: Please retrieve the dump file associated to this crash log. It should be named in a similar way with the extension *.dmp. Send it to svetlio@haemimontgames.com along with the log file. In fact you could zip and send all the crash information, as this is not the only crash you have...

To the moderators: As there are a lot of crashes lately in the forum threads, an imprortant thread could be usefull destined to post and discuss these specific problems.

Apartment blocks rendering comepletely useless as the A/C upgrade is not working/ not changing the quality. Also after playing for few hours the sound stops (first the VO, than the music and on the end the SFX. I have the STEAM version with the two DLC's, no mods- cleen install from the beginning.

I'm stuck! In mission 18, at some point you have to build a Horticulture station and set it to GMC. I already had the station and the correct workmode when I got the objective, so I figured it would just auto-complete like always. However, it doesn't. It just stays there instead of giving me the new objective. I tried to switch workmodes back and forth, tried breaking down the building and build a new one and even restarting the game. None of that helped, so now I can't progress through the campaign any more. Anybody got any ideas what to do? Sad

I guess I'll have to keep bumping this until I get some sort of a response. I noticed today that in some ways this shutdown reminded me of Hibernate mode, which I did have activated. I turned it off and tried the game again, but alas, it still shut the computer down, only this time it shut it down and didn't go into hibernate. So what is the game doing that is telling my machine to shutdown? I also notice that as soon as the game fires up, my hard drive roars like it is working overtime. I'd really like to be able to play this game, but it isn't happening and even though I am not alone in having this problem, this type of problem isn't getting any responses on this forum.

This may of some use ... The symptom of the computer shutting down may be related to perceived overheating due to high CPU usage, often caused by video drivers and DirectX activity. Some recommended fixes include turning off something in BIOS that trips and overheat shutdown and of course all of the driver update recommendations. I also wonder about shutting off EVERYTHING I can so help take some stress off the CPU. For the most part it looks like I may be doomed. Or could this be an opportunity to get a new computer Smile

Playing the campaign, My swiss bank, and fame have both been reset too zero..



I also have a game save of a bugged rebel battle. Its very odd. The number of soliders keeps increasing on the screen counter, but no one is joining as soliders. It's happening durring the battle.

I submitted a bug report a while back regarding colonial forts never appearing in user-generated sandbox maps, is this going to be fixed in the next patch?

Original Tropico and Tropico 2 player. Keeping the Military Junta going strong since 2001.

I've gone through 11 campaigns with almost no problems. Now on campaign 12, with my city growing, I started getting video freezes and had to use Task Manager to close the game. Right now, I can't go any further in the game. As soon as I continue, I have a few seconds to a few minutes of play before the freeze.

The NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT is the mobile version of GeForce 8600 GT (therefore slower), which is somewhere close to the minimum system requirements for the video card. Try running the game with lower display resolution and video settings and make sure that your laptop is not overheating. The mobile video cards have the tendency to reduce performance when the temperature is elevating. Love your game but major gameplay bug to report with the power system in Tropico 4:

It completely incorrectly models wind and nuclear power system capex and opex. I work in one of the largest energy companies in the world and am shocked at how inaccurate it is.

For starters, yes Wind power does vary by elevation, but the swing is more like 10-20% not 50% or more. Plus the elevation benefits would be marginal compared to the fact Tropico is an island with strong ocean winds. Also the generation opex of wind is almost zero not ridiculously high like it currently shows. You're completely misleading the gaming community!

To accurately model power you need to do the following:

Std plant (assumed as coal/gas): keep as is
Wind: Capex should be $30000, opex is $50 per year! 2-4MW per turbine.
Nuclear: Capex $500000, opex is $1000 per month. 2000MW standard size

Please email me if you want to discuss further. Alternatively can you please post a patch for me if you don't fix this?

I'm pretty sure that this isn't a bug (this thread is for bugs only), it is an accuracy issue, which is different.

But regardless, do you really think total realism is the goal of the game developer? For example, I was playing Tropico 4 last week, and I signed death warrants for 75% of my population just for the hell of it. My soldiers slaughtered 75% of the population. Now, what would happen in real-life if that occured in a country? U.N. intervention perhaps? Armed uprising? Economic collapse? No, those negative consequences didn't happen. I stayed in power until the end of the game, and my economy didn't collapse. The moral of the story: it is a game, it isn't supposed to perfectly resemble real-life.

Apologies i will repost in separate thread. I could 't find a generic fixes page.

The point about realism only makes sense when you're are talking about what you can and cannot do. This is about balancing the game economics. Its like would you pay 200000 per year for a bum's shack? You could certainly do in the game, but i don't want to see a game as good as this do something like that. Most ppl don't know how wind and nuclear works. If i wanted to build a completely green wind power tropico island i could in real life but not in this game because of ridiculous opex. That's what i call "unbalanced"
PS forgot to explain - the prices i gave are relative to Tropico's std power plant price. These aren't actual or accurate prices for anything. It alls relative to how a player would build their island.

I have the same issue it seems, I start to play and it does not happen in the same spot, Its random, it just freezes my computer. The audio stops, and the computer becomes un-responsive then I have to force a restart every time. It does not create a log when it does that so i only have the log from playing then exiting. Its not a temp thing i have had widgets showing the temp and i also have tried playing with out the widgets. Kinda a bummer since i just bought this game.

I guess that you've checked this thread already: Tropico 4 - CRASH reports thread.
Without the crash dumps we can only guess what's the problem. Try to run the game in a window. After the crash the system should remain responsible and maybe you'll have the crash info. If not, then it seems that the whole system is crashing for some reason.

I'm having an issue updating to 1.3

I've searched google, and the forum and don't seem to find anyone with similar issues.

after the patch downloads, and the patch installer starts, it chokes when it tries to access Tropico4.exe, and I can only abort, retry, or skip.
Skip will apply the patch, without changing Tropico4.exe, but the patch will still prompt to download when I restart the game.

Any idea what I need to do to get my game to patch to 1.3?

I bought tropico 4 today updated it manually it starts and the loading in the very beginning wont show what im typing in to log in or when i put the key code in. if i minimize the screen and then pull it back up it shows what is there. when the game runs all it shows is the cursor on a black screen it will never show more

So the installer throws an "Cannot access Tropico4.exe" error. One other question, where does the auto update program download the patch? Every time I retry, I have to download the patch. If I have the location I can just try running it from there. Thank you.

A third-party software or setting is preventing the Tropico4.exe file to be overwritten, which is required for the update to be applied properly. Make sure to disable any running background applications, most importantly security-related ones and try to apply the update again. Also make sure your user account has admin privileges.

There is no way to run the update locally.

I believe I am in the 19th mission (20th?) and one of the goals is to build a private building, but it won't let me. I build it but using my $$ and it does not go toward the goals?

You need to build a Stock Exchange (Under Welfare and Economy) and then build some of the private buildings it offers.

You need to build a Stock Exchange (Under Welfare and Economy) and then build some of the private buildings it offers.

Did that - same problem. Even deleted the current Stock Ex and rebuilt it. Any other ideas?

Neither installed by KGB or military coup work with the bunker

Installed by KGB doesnt seem to work at all, even when I use it nobody joins the tropican army without a high school or college degree.

I am having the same problem. It is very frustrating. It keeps wanting me to build private buildings until I opt to not build any at this time. But it never uses any of the building I have built under the "offer" as private buildings.

This happens if you are using cheats for instant construction. Is that the case?
