Exclamation How is the score calculated?
OK, I have a question to ask. How is the score calculated at the end of the game? With regards to the number of citizens in the island, do happy citizens have 2x score and normal citizens have 1x score while unhappy citizens, the score is not taken into account?

I can't find this matter on the manual itself so I am asking it here. Thanks!

RE: How is the score calculated?
Can someone please give me an answer? And also how is the rating of 1, 2 and 3 stars being affected? Must one go above a certain number of points to achieve a 3 star rating?

Thanks!

Oh OK, thanks! I am so sorry! I wasn't aware that it is in the middle of the night for Europe! It is evening time in Singapore though!

I have waited for a day and there is still no concise reply! I promise to give a reputation rating for the person who can answer my question!

Why don't you find out for yourself which actions constitute a good overall score in the meantime? We certainly won't share the exact algorithm here.

RE: How is the score calculated?
I'm actually not answering this for reputation, but to stop this being bumped ...

This is deliberately vague, because of what Timo just wrote (it was before too):
  • Number of citizen and their individual happiness;
  • Number of buildings and their relative value;
  • Swiss bank account income earned on that island;
  • Money left in the treasury;
  • Use of certain edicts.

So keep your people happy, keep your balance high, build the right things, don't issue silly edicts, and store some money in the bank account. All the things you should be doing anyway.

Edited to ensure I comply with what Timo posted ...

"I am not ashamed to confess I am ignorant of what I do not know" ― Cicero.

"You had to hand it to the Patrician, he admitted grudgingly. If you didn't, he sent men to come and take it away." ― Terry Pratchett (Guards! Guards!)

Thanks for the kind reply!

By the way, what is wrong with sharing the exact algorithm here. How can I find this out?

RE: How is the score calculated?
Knowing the exact algorithm ruins the game. You'd just play it the way that you'd score the most points, rather than trying to rule effectively.

I was pleasantly surprised by how close it is to my gameplay style in sandbox mode -- though in my case knowing it hasn't changed my style because I'm too worried about overall happiness.

The exact algorithm isn't something you can just "find". It's part of the game, and as such relies on many moving parts.

If you want hints, the best advice I can give you is what I knew before I poked around: the Almanac's information is a guide as to how you can achieve a good score (the checked boxes are a good thing). I still rely on it in the game, because it's how you play it -- bound by the whims of your people.

Edit: Plural apostrophe was in the wrong place ... unless people is modified as the mass noun ... in which case all factions are equal ... in which case I'm wrong now...
Edit #2: Changed genitive construction to avoid linguistic conflict.
