Exclamation Chastised for premature death of thread.
I have been cited for causing a useful thread to be locked for posting a "comedic quibble" which incited other posters to drift off topic.

http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread...125&page=2

Quote:RE: DLC - What we can see from the data files
Just a brief comment on the language\terms of the other two traits since I dealt with Planter.

Constructor In American English, constructor is not particularly common. In most parts of the country, a "Builder" operates a construction company. The construction company workers are traditionally identified by their particular craft\skills, e.g. carpenter, plumber, electrician, mason, etc.

Veteran - Lost an arm? It's just a flesh wound! Keep going, private! In the olden days, Tropican soldiers kept fighting even with no limbs left - and the enemy was happy if he could call it a draw. Good times! I respectfully suggest that this intended joke will NOT be well-taken in the U.S. Our media provides extensive coverage to our actual veterans - wounded and dead - from our last ten years of war. I expect that most Americans will find that line hopelessly offensive - even in a game.
(formatting lost through cut & paste)

Then I did not ignore some posts that perhaps I should have. Timo issued a warning:

Quote:RE: DLC - What we can see from the data files
Let's just get back to topic and discuss the offensive content of the game elsewhere, OK?

It was O.K. with me, but others couldn't leave it alone or go back to the "What we can see from the data files" topic. So the thread was summarily locked without a suggestion for the "elsewhere" location for discussion of offensive content.

So I am left with "slams" for stupidity (and more) for not anticipating that posters would be so excited by the opportunity to speak for the war wounded. My intent was to provide my minor and quiet suggestion about a point that may have escaped the staff at Haemimont. Of course, my view may have validity or not; but the tone and point of the replies were offensive to me. Sorry!

I respectfully suggest that the offending posts be "snipped" from the thread and reassembled in a new thread in that "elsewhere" location, and the innocent thread on DLC be reopened. I think that is within the power of the moderators.

Sorry, threads will continue to be locked if they deviate from the original topic. This is not meant as disciplinary action towards a single user, but a warning to the collective posters to not let threads deviate so far from their original topic that there is no other way but close them. You may also have noticed that we re-open such threads from time to time after the initial dust has settled over the closure so discussion may continue as long as it remains constructive and on topic.

I haven't noticed. Yet another indicator that due to age, both my short and long term memory banks are failing. Picture: Flush toilet with arm reaching up out of the bowl to put hand on flush lever. Caption: Good bye cruel world. (Ancient cartoon from the 1960s.)

I still don't know where that "elsewhere" for discussion of objectionable stuff in Tropico 4 is. Is it somewhere between the dumper and the sewer plant?

Oh, by "elsewhere" I didn't refer to a specific, existing location but rather a new thread titled "Let's discuss objectionable/politically incorrect stuff in Tropico 4".

I will take ownership of the "comedic quibble" comment resulting in my gift of a negative rep. point, Coco.

Granted, you are unable to anticipate which, if any, comments other posters may choose to go on a tangent about, so I apologize if I have unfairly targeted you for the criticism of a thread careening off topic. To be honest, part of my critique was due to, what I felt, was an overly harsh interpretation of one of my comments in another thread.

I didn't feel my comment warranted a "cheap shot" negative rep. posting, as it is precisely the point of Kalypso's omission of certain bugged features: they are to be included in later DLC and we, the gamers/customers, will be charged for them (if we so choose to pay).

In any case, it was a fairly pointless tit-for-tat battle on questionable grounds on both our parts. I offer a truce, dear friend CoconutKid!

In other news, can Timo please clarify why my "Forum Protocol: A Call for Avatars!" thread was deemed inappropriate and summarily closed?

George W. Bush: "A dictatorship would be a heck of a lot easier, there's no question about it." El Presidente agrees. Cool

It was moved to Off Topic sub forum.

I thought it was a great twist. We need to create a controversy and get on the news. Then the game sales will skyrocket! Big Grin

While I appreciate such a thread would be acceptable, I will pass. I have tried such threads and found them to be unproductive. Particularly unproductive is anything to do with politically incorrect because that subjective tag can be hung on any commonly accepted restraint in social behavior.

@ Maximo,

I have dispatched Ambassador Rosebud with letters plenipotentiary and extraordinary to conclude a final peace treaty as the next step in the truce you so kindly extended. The Ambassador gained her diplomatic skills in my favorite Caberet; so I am sure she will present terms and conditions that you will find acceptable. She is authorized and prepared to spend an extended period of negotiations.
