Finally got Tropico 4 and my thoughts
So I played Tropico 1, 2, 3, all the expansions since T1 was first released. I posted numerous ideas for T4 on the T3 forum. So I finally got T4 and have been lurking this forum.
So I must say that while this is more like an expansion pack than a new game, that doesn't bother me. It is a very fun game with fun additional content. I'm glad to see the progressive change into national government from just a city and the addition of imports allowing for a fully functional economy.
With that said I still get pleasure from the thing that drives me to Tropico in the first place, pretending I'm a communist dictator and throwing anyone who disagrees into prison. Also I'm ecstatic to see the dungeon back.
Now the only bad, of which I have found are four things.
1. And before you say drivers, upgrades, ect... not the fraking issue. For some reason some disaster videos work, the others just crash to desktop. Obvious bug, must be fixed.
2. Pop limits, glad to see them at 1,500 but I had islands of 4,000 in T1. To be fair T4 islands seem to be larger than T3, which makes me extremely pleased.
3. I am glad to see the map editor, again this is double plus good. The only thing I miss is how it was inside the game in T1. Now before you scream cheater, who cares. It is how I play the game. I loved changing the landscape to how I saw fit when I wanted it. Oh a pond would look nice to my new hotel, let me add that. Also in that editor you could place people. Not only did this help get over pop limits but an army of 5 rebels quickly was an army of 50 rebels.
4. I want to release people from prison early. Sometimes I go back and realize it was a mistake...I mean el Presidente doesn't make mistakes. Sometimes it is hard to be oppressive and in a labor crunch.
I'm sure number five will be road limits but I have yet to see what you are talking about. Hmph...
Over all, love it. Thanks for the fun!
