Nirvana V2
To simply rule is not enough, to control the religious faction on this godforsaken hell hole you need to build your own religion, and spread it far and wide

This is my first attempt at creating a challenge game, I have played it through using a number of different strategies and all seem to work, . It is not a difficult game and new players should be able to achieve the objectives, more experienced players s should concerntrate on building a despotic religious empire. Money initialy will be tight due to the large number of high upkeep building provided at the start, However in all my strategies I have quickly managed to get a huge bank reserve.

It is not an overly complicated challenge, and hopefully it will appeal to new and older players alike. not quite sand box but not far off it.

As this is the first time I have attempted anything like this I am sure I have missed things, I literally did it while constantly replaying the excellant You Tube idiots guide to the challenge editor from JTracy ( On the forums here ) (Thanks Tongue) and then simplying trying things within the editor and trying to create a cause and effect

All comments good or bad will be noted,

EDIT : 1/10/2011

V1 didnt work apologies and is now set to fail in the first month Sad

Nirvana V2 is now uploaded (Just search in the challenges )
It is still a work in progress but so far I have managed to both win and lose

Please ignore spelling and grammer mistakes as will correct them once sure all the challenges and consequences are achievable , more mini challenges alongside the main tasks are also being added as I get them working correctly.

I just played it with a total despot scenerio No housing welfare, fun or churchs, but lots of happy military.. it is still too easy,

I need to balance it a bit more methinks

maybe up the initial export requirements as well as reducing the time, as it is achievable if you micromanage with a single distillery and cigar factory - FIXED

For some reason my tasks that have a time limit are being allowed to go into negative months and the sanctions that should be applied arent being done..- FIXED

e.g. failure to export 25000 rum results in an uprising- its not happening and the time limit is just going into negative.. FIXED

Ok played a few other options.. and my advice is dont play this, I have missed far too much in the editor for it to play right or as intended... will go back to the drawing board and try to make V2 at least playable

Yes I played it and everything was going well until I failed to get the 15000 goat cheese exported in time which made the time limit go into negative... I carried on playing until I had exported the 15000 goat cheese which cleared the challenge but no other challenge appeared after that... nothing has happened for years Wink

Good Luck and Thanks Smile

RE: Nirvana V1
Yup... I made a basic error with the dates etc..
I have modified the challenges a bit to make them a touch harder , dropped some, added a couple new ones and game events. and hopefully got the timelines right..

and uploaded it as Nirvana V2

I have played V2 through both completing and failing the challenges and all seem to work OK , athough one is a bit hectic when done... (but will let you find that ouit for yourselves)

I am sure it will still have a few problems as this is the first time I have ever tried anything like this, so please bear with me as a noob..

Just been told that the final challenge doesnt "Win the game/Lose the game" as it should although it does for me .... ggggrrrr SadSadSadSadSadSad --

Rikki - if you want to email me your game file, I'll take a look at the final sequence to see why it may not be triggering the Win Game / Lose Game.

Nirvana V2 is uploaded as so far everything seems to work and is achievable for me, ( It is also pretty easy to lose if played on fast modeTongue ) and still adding bits and will go back and do spelling grammer corrections,/ end of task messages as and when I am sure the rest is stable

All comments good or bad welcomed

RE: Nirvana V2
No body tried it yet?
any and all comments are welcomed to help me refine it to a better game, It is very hard for a single person to test all possible strategies, and the possible scenerios that the sequences may take the player through.

I have played it through a number of times , and to be honest even though I know whats coming up have lost due to my own incompetence, but with a bit of thought most challenges are easily completed with time to spare. However I dont have the time to play every single possible route. to ensure that failing one or two challenges mean that the ultimate goal is not totally unachievable

there is a bug/mistake on one challenge that is not being nasty enough if failed but am too tired to look now and work out what i missed to make it work right, but it is not in any way game breaking

Please think about giving it a go, and if you spot any errors let me know

I am playing your challenge now (have yet to complete it) and noticed 2 bugs. When the challenge for exporting spiced rum and machine rolled cigars comes up and when I click on the view button, the screen immediately shows me a toddler!

Why is this so? This seems very strange!

Also, the financial aid given by the US which is about $17,000 is a bug as well.

Cool

Well, it was a good challenge, but I lost on my first try. I only managed to export about 19,000 units of rum and cigars. It was clearly not enough. I am not a good Tropico 4 player by the way!

Any tips on how about going to win this challenge?

Thanks!

I have played out a few strategies with it, It does not play well in "Fast" mode as you do need to micromanage a fair bit to get the best out of your workers and to only import when needed,
The strategy that seems to work best for me is to

FIRST:Ensure you have Booze baron as a trait on El Presidente
1. Before anything else set your farms to grow the correct crops
2. Be nasty to your people and nice to your military, grow a big military as soon as you can , give every one else cheap housing and as little in the way of entertainment /welfare as possible

Then as money becomes available
3. Build a second dock and another distillery near the sugar farms at the top of the island
4. Build a second cigar factory near the tobacco farms that are inbetween the two docks ( not the ones nearest to the original docks ) BY now you should have enough cash to allow imports

Keep an eye on your spending those imports are very imortant
5.get a Mausoleum and booby trap it, as there will be a lot of rebels to deal with
6.By now you should be swimming in cash, so as factory /farmers die off/join the rebels buy in foreign labour to keep them working at full capacity

Once you complete the Rum and Tobbacco challenges the industry challeges get a bit easier, but you have a lot of very unhappy workers to deal with to get through the other challenges.

Being nice to your subjects is a lot harder, but can be done
I have been very close to failing or failed the first two challenges each time I have tried without using imports just farms

By the way , not completing the first two challenges just makes winning a bit harder but not impossible, the challenges after rum and tobbaco are easier

FIXES
1.Have fixed the bug with the cathedral challenge ( was only minor and not game stopping, )
2. More messages added to make clear rewards and consequences of completing/failing challenges
3. some minor balancing done to make the game easier in places and harder in others

OK, thanks for the reply. So how many cigar and rum factories are needed to complete this task?

Is by building 3 cigar and 3 rum factories enough or is it overkill? Or is 2 of each enough? Is 4 each the optimal number?

Thanks!

There is too many variables for a certain reply, How well the workers are looked after and therefore how long they spend at work>resolving needs, your road network and how well the teamsters can move around, conflicts/protests etc, frequency of freighters and availability of imports home grown supplies etc, skill of workers, using Presidente often to boost production and a lot more .

That is the beauty of this game as far as I am concerned in that you can play the same challenge a number of times using different strategies and have completly different problems to overcome.

Not knowing the exact output stats of a cigar/Distillery factory but I would guess that in a perfect world one would cope easily, but no Tropican world would ever be perfect so two would be the minimum and if its not going well try to identify the problem and resolve it and if needed build the 3rd/4th, but dont leave it too late or they wont start producing in time to make a difference.

Sorry not to be more precise but so much really does depend on how you are playing, your transportation set up and what you are providing your citizens.

OK, thanks for the tip! I just completed the first part of the challenge of exporting 20,000 units of rum and cigars with about 75 months left!

Now for the 2nd part of the mission! And I just exported 500 units of goat cheese within 24 months!

I noticed that there is no ratings for this mission yet. I wonder why..........

No-one has uploaded there scores yet, thats how the rating works, as far as I know

Quote:By the way, there is a little bug. When the Reverend told me to build 2 more churches, I built them. But the info panel still says that I build 1! Why is this so? And my adviser lost his blueprints for the cathedral and the church after this.
Big Grin

thats a challenge introduced by the game, not one of mine, I suspect the church wasnt fully built before the consequence of one of my challenges came into effect .. Penultimo losing the blue prints is one of the consequences I put in..

If the Religious faction get too happy the scenerio will very quickly get boring,

Thanks for the feedback, please let me know of any other problems..

Please note: I will be away on business for a couple of days so am not ignoring any comments or bug reports, will look at this thread when I get back Wednesday/Thursday, please keep the feedback coming

You are right - I've just had a look and - OMG!!!! What has happened to my score Sad

This is so weird - it is still showing up that I have completed it in my personal profile.... maybe I should report it as a bug?

ETA#1:

I will redo the challenge later and see if it shows up then.....

ETA#2:

I've redone it now and am showing up in the score.... my personal profile now shows two scores for this challenge so maybe my first score was wiped from the online list because the challenge was altered after I had completed it.... just a guess because I think some of the texts announcing the challenges were different from the time before....

Anyway I really enjoyed playing it again so a Massive Thanks for making it Big Grin
