Hi, I am a first time poster and a huge fan of the series!!

The game looks fantastic and for the few minutes I am able to get it to work it plays fantastic too! The problem is it causes my PC to overheat and then crash!! It is the exact same problem people (including myself) had with Tropico 3! (also a Kalypso product)

The issue occurs after around 20 minutes or so of playing and causes the PC to trip out and reboot itself. It doesn't matter what game-mode I use or settings etc, the problem is always the same.

The issue has nothing to do with my cooling system as every other game works fine and I only cleaned my fan a month or so ago.

The only solution I found with Tropico 3 was to use an old PC. The problem with that was that I had to reduce all the settings to make it run smooth and I don't want to have to the same with AT2.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Firstly
-What are your pc specs (case cpu video card etc)
-what is your pc shut of temp (point at when the computer shuts down if cpu hits specific temp)
What is the average ambient temp of the room you are in?
Secondly
depending on how you answer the questions above

1. Install more Fans (other than power supply and cpu fans)
2. change shut of temp while starting up (usual accessed in health menu if you press F12 on motherboard screen during boot)
3. install other cooling systems eg more fans, water cooling etc
4. get a case with better airflow
5. move pc to a colder room
6. make sure vents are an obstructed
   

My main tower at home is a
2.66 Ghz Intel Duel core
4Gb DDR3 Ram
standed 512mb intergrated grafics
Raidmax Tornado Case
CPU heat sink fan
Power suply 560W with fan
Front Fan large
Side Fan standard
Rear Fan standard

my normal cpu temp is no more than 38.8
and my normal ambient no more than 41.2

CPU temp max out around 60 and GPU temp around 55 in AT2 so very very far from overheating here.
2500k with dual GTX 460 in SLI.

My guess is you just don't enough ventilation or there's something else going on, are you sure it's overheating and not a memory error or so? Have you actually monitored the temps while playing?

My machine specs are:
Acer Aspire
Windows Vista
Intel Core 2 Duo T5800
4GB RAM
NVIDIA 9600M GS 512MB

My machine works fine with most other software that runs at a higher spec such as Flight Sim and Football Manager etc so I don't think it is the machine as such. Also as I say I am not the only person to have had similar problems with Kalypso games. I had the same problem with Tropico 3 as well.

As for the room temperature etc, it is fairly cool here all the time, I don't have a thermometer to give you an exact reading but it is more cool than warm. I don't have any more available slots to add more fans. My older PC has more fans in it than this but it is an older spec machine so I don't want to have to use it for playing one game especially when I won't be able to use it at full spec.

I haven't monitored the temperature in terms of picking up a reading but when the game runs the fans are all on at full speed and my machine feels very very hot to touch.

It's easier to find a solution if we can find out what part of the computer overheats.
If it's the GPU it could be as simple as forcing V-sync to be on.

Go to NVIDIA Control Panel, click on Manage 3D settings and on the bottom of global settings change Vertical Sync to 'Force On'

But since we don't know if it's the GPU that overheats this might not do anything to help you.

Since the change the game still makes my computer run unusually hot but so far it hasn't crashed like before. Hopefully it will continue to be ok but I am still unsure why Kalypso games have this effect on my machine!
