Sad I am utterly disappointed the game does not use real planes.
I work in aviation in real life so I was really looking forward to playing the heck out of this. I'm utterly disappointed the game's approach to aircraft is fake cartoon models that don't mirror any sort of actual planes.

I know it's just a game--but as a tycoon game I was really hoping at least real planes would be modelled.

I'm sure it's not a licensing issue as the $2 iPhone game AirTycoon 2 uses real planes with simulated real prices.

I'd even pay for an expansion pack that brought real aircraft into the fray (hint hint...)

C'mon guys, its a cartoon based videogame, what did you expect?

Plus using real planes means paying licenses for copyright and all that stuff. And modifying the airplanes like the game allows would not be easy.

I like it the way it is.

I too work in the airline industry and found it a bit disappointing as this added a good deal of realism in Airline Tycoon 1. However it's quite obvious that some of the planes were modeled after real life planes... gotta love a Bong 747.

The problem is a legal one. "Boeing" is a trademark, so is "Airbus" and most other company names. So they'd probably have to pay to use them or risk being sued for infringement.

It came down to the face that tose ''brands'' are very particular about their name. This game seems to attempt a sence of humour and I dont think they would of had the freedom to play around and joke about with the game. Besides what difference doesit make? tsk tsk Picky Picky.

I can't speak for others, but I really liked the way Airline Tycoon made use of the actual names of aircraft manufacturers. When I was a kid Airline Tycoon was more than just a game, it was simulation (albeit, oversimplified); it simulated the role of airline manager. So although I liked the "cartoony" aspect of it, I also enjoyed the "realism." Playing with planes manufactured by companies like Boeing and Airbus added that degree of realism. It contributed to my childhood imagination of managing an airline; in that way, it made the game a little more fun.

Don't you get it people? Airline Tycoon 2 is unique. You can make your own aircraft which you cannot do in the real world plus they made some aircraft that are similar like the A380. AT2 is just a game with features. Remember that AT2 is only a GAME. Maybe in the future, they'll add real manufactures like Airbus and Boeing and their products.

I do get it, and technically, every game is "unique" in its own way, not just AT2. To you AT2 may just be "a game," but when we were kids playing the first version of AT, it was more than that. AT1 was an experience; a partial escape into a fantasy realm where we ran airlines grounded in a certain degree of realism. It provided a visual representation of our childhood imaginations in the form of a game.

I doubt they'll add "real manufacturers" in the future as they already stated that there are liability issues. And we don't necessarily hate the game because of the aircraft names. All we're saying is that an important part of the AT "experience" is lost for those of us who preferred the names of real aircraft manufacturers.
