Sad This game made me disapointed
Many functions are missing compare with Airline Tycoon 1:

1. Stock market;
2. Oil purchasing system (miss the man from Middle East);
3. Communication of the competitor;
4. Rent of branches around the world to strength the ability of planning of tour contract;

I waiting for this game about 4 years but nothing make me surprise! Is that all your works here? Hope you still hold some hided functions for upgrading!

RE: This game made me disapointed
After so many years and with the game already once being canceled from production from spellbound I can say that people should be at least pleased some other company decided to pick it up and give us a new game based on the old one. It has nice graphics, its funny, its nice to play. And who knows if this game goes well the first expansion might add a lot of the things that were in its predecessor. But stop trying to compare it and realise that the older one had 2 expansions that added everything it had (and the expansions of it actually just added a couple of missions and 1-2 features each, the first one had the cargo bay and a bunch of missions and the second one had the ability to build your own plane and the security with another bunch of missions. The ability to create your own plane and security are already in this one so its expected some features are meant to appear later.

Some of us have higher and different expectations than others.

As a customer, I'll be pleased when the product meets my expectations. I'm entitled to that because I paid for the game as a consumer. That's how business works, even in Airline Tycoon. Back in AT1, if you provided shoddy service, your passengers would walk out of the gate with a green frowning face in a thought bubble.

I can honestly say that when I first played Airline Tycoon I was, indeed, pleased. It's probably because I had not played any other game to which I could compare AT. But once sequels come out, comparisons are tough to hold back and as people become loyal to the brand, their expectations of it will increase accordingly. It's business as usual. If B-alive or Kalypso didn't want us to compare AT2 with its predecessors, then they shouldn't have called it "Airline Tycoon 2".

Besides, if people were so easily pleased, what does that say to the developers and publishers? It says that they don't have to work as hard on updating the game because it would be viewed as pretty good as it is. I also find it rather presumptuous to assume that B-alive or some other developer will add "expansions" to AT2. It may have happened before, but as of now there's nothing that guarantees that it will happen again.

RE: This game made me disapointed
A player that enjoys a game like me ALWAYS has a higher expectation. I can only think of a handful games that I was content about a game. Also now that you mentioned it I loved that part about moods or even thoughts of people in airport. Also the reason most companies use titles of older games +1 is to attract more customers but of course your right that brings along responsibility Smile . I did too post in here that I missed some things from the game but I am usually more positive as a person (just for my own sake). Also usually nowadays companies enjoy releasing download content in order to slowly but steadily take money from players that enjoy the game instead of releasing expansions and then when DLC does not sell they bulk them up in a pack and sell them all together as "ultimate pack" or whatever. Sadly like I mentioned though they will first see how the game sells since no one would care about developing something for a game that won't make them money. I am more or less are holding onto the words of Benjamin from b-alive that the next patch even if we do not know when it will be out we will like it. Aw well hope dies last Smile

RE: This game made me disapointed
I know a lot of people are quite content with AT2, I am not one of these I've tested the game out a little bit and this is proof that developers don't care about gameplay, they are a little lazy. Airline Tycoon was a big hit, there are so many excellent features missing in the new airline tycoon its like they just did not play the game or even ask anyone about it, The graphics are good, but they are not what made the first game and they don't make this game neither. I read somewhere that this game AT2 has depth, where, it has been poorly made to the illusion of depth, no arrivals departures boards, no fuel management, no cargo flights, I think this game wasn't even tested or played before release, just thrown out there to the masses unfinished, maybe this is why people don't pick up old games like Theme Hospital, they are classics and cannot be reborn into a graphically obsessed generation, graphics 9/10 gameplay 4/10, going back to Airline Tycoon as soon as I can!

RE: This game made me disapointed
I may be wrong, but I choose to look at it this way. If I were developing a game, I'd probably lay a foundation and put it to the users. Then use feedback from the users to streamline its functionality. That may not be happening here, but Kalypso folks seem to be reading these forums pretty closely.

One can only hope that this is, in fact, the plan. That very soon (and hopefully fairly often) patches will be released with new features to appease the gaming masses. If not... if this is REALLY all there's going to be... then I have to agree that this game is way too basic. Especially when compared to the original versions.

RE: This game made me disapointed
I totally agree that this is a graphical obsessed generation. People will go out and criticize a good game if the graphics are not perfect. Thankfully I am not one that cares much for graphics and would not care if AT2 looked exactly as AT1 with that old 3d design. But its refreshing nevertheless to see the new more vivid graphics with their details and such. My disc came with V1.01 so I am sure they tested their first release before putting it into the store shelves. Also a lot of people were eager to play the game. It really makes me wonder about everyone be it the happy and unhappy AT2 players. If it where to ask them if they would prefer to get the game as soon as possible or after major bugs were fixed and major features added. Personally I would go with as soon as possible.

I am not really sure that will be the "surprise" that we will see on 1.03 but I look forward to it.

I guess I was expecting AT2 to have a sturdier foundation. I thought that because AT2 is the successor of AT Deluxe (ATD), that ATD could have served as the "foundation" for AT2. After all, ATD could've been improved too.

It does not work this way though. Companies do not develop continuations of games with expansions based on the previous version's latest expansion pack but on the base pack. For example if each new Sims is based on the base Sims with some extra features and then they start adding many more in each expansion. Generally though companies mix what included in the next game like some expansions features but they keep features off to add later in newer expansions especially if they are out of ideas.

But there are still features that were a part of what you refer to as the "base pack" (i.e. Airline Tycoon) but that are not a part of AT2. Yet, according to your explanation, they're features that should have been there when AT2 was first released as they were a part of the "base pack" on which AT2 is based.

I can't specifically speak about "Airline Tycoon," because the first version I played was "Airline Tycoon: First Class," and in that game at least there were features like: working phones, live flight status screens, and realistic gates. My memory of ATFC is a little hazy (it's been a while since I played it) but there may also have been: a laptop, the stock market, and branches among other features missing from AT2 as of now.

Ultimately, I'm not particularly satisfied with AT2 (as it is right now) because it doesn't meet my expectations in terms of the features that should be a part of the "base" or foundation of AT2. Though, one stands to reason that if those features should return in future "expansions" of AT2, I'll hang on to this game for a little longer.

RE: This game made me disapointed
I keep thinking I'm missing something. That's what's wrong for me. There looks like there's a lot intended, but just not there yet. I'm anxiously awaiting it to be there.

I REALLY want to love this game. So far, I think it's cute. I've taken it out for a couple of casual dates and I'm interested. I just hope I don't meet a sexier game while I'm waiting for this one to mature. As it stands, though, we just don't have enough in common for a committed relationship.
