Question Release Date
I know that Tropico 3 will be released this summer, but has a month been decided upon yet? And, any clues on the graphics requirements?

RE: Release Date
I do hope the developers won't be pushed into releasing the game before it's complete and polished. I always worry about that.

A bug-infested game that doesn't have-or isn't able to realize-all the features that I've been led to expect, always leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I personally wouldn't mind a fall release, if it means a better first impression. For one thing, that would capitalize on the holiday shopping season, and for another, the "warm, tropical" flavors of the game would be especially pleasant, when the weather begins turning cold.

RE: Release Date
I hope that the system requirements are not too high, or can be turned down signifigantly if too choppy, for thoes of us who dont have top of the line computers. The graphics in T1 werent very detailed, but the game always ran smoothly, and while I obviously expect better graphics to be in T3, I still hope for a smooth running game Smile

RE: Release Date
Tropico 3 uses an advanced version of the graphics engine used in Grand Ages: Rome. If your computer is capable of running this game, chances are you won't have any major issues with Tropico 3. The exact release date for Tropico 3 is yet to be announced.

RE: Release Date
Does a release date, even matter to the English-language market?

The publisher and developer have given no indications that they plan on publishing an English-language version.

It appears that T3 is going to be a REGIONAL release and not directed towards the international market.

Oh, come on "Timo" -- get honest with us! The EXACT release date is simply an excuse to obfuscate what is going to be released.

The exact month, day, and hour that the German version will be on the shelves of retail stores in Germany is not a burning issue on this board.

What the non-German speakers need to know is there ever to be publication of versions in languages other than German? If so, will it be weeks, months or years after the German release?

Americans may have their "chauvinist" attitudes, but we are not completely stupid. All the indicators are that you have no intent to sell this product in the American market. Indeed, even an English language varient may be still an undecided option in the marketing department.

So, just level off with us! If you don't need our business -- say so. It will save both of us time and trouble.

RE: Release Date
Treating the English-language market with disdain and contempt is not a good business plan.

This forum's admin is a good example.

He is more than willing to reply on the German-language board, but ignores the English-language board.

When you treat the English speaking Trop fan-base like dirt... don't expect them to rush out and buy any of your products.

You can expect that same fan-base to be extremely harsh towards T3, on the dozens of game review sites that exist, when this product does hit the market.

Tropico 3 is going to see an international release this summer. We never stated otherwise or indicated that this is going to be a regional release only.

There is absolutely no reason to believe that we're treating the international fanbase any different than the German one.

Timo, you have been the only kalypso employee... who has treated the International fan-base with respect.

I cannot say the same for the 'admin' of this forum.

I suggest you do what I did.

Look at who and where he has made his posts.

He has gone out of his way to diss the English-language community.

By only replying to German language posts, he has show disrespect and bias towards the International fan-base.

We are very sorry if you're having this impression and I hereby promise to make a difference.

We are going to start with the release of our "community/developer Q&A session" shortly and are planning some more community work for Tropico 3 in the near future. Please stick with us, we're not going to disappoint you.

Timo, thanks for the info.

Quote:We are very sorry if you're having this impression and I hereby promise to make a difference.

You have already made a difference and it is appreciated.

Hopefully, you can talk some sense into the rest of the kalypso staff.

I look forward to seeing more interaction between the Trop community, the publisher and the developer.

The problem is that this should have already occurred.

The longer y'all wait... the more hostile the Trop fan-base will grow.

RE: Release Date
It would be a wonderful thing if you International posters could just relax. The game will come out in English and it will be good. I hope the humor and stuff that made the first Tropico by PopTop will translate well into English for you who are so impatient. And stop harassing these unwealthy forum moderators with angry talk of being ignored. It's just two people... but they are the more talking posters and all the anger is really stupid for us to read.

Be really passion for this game but don't be angry to us German speakers for not talking back to you quickly. We have better important things to do, like make this game wonderful.

Because the English speaking market isn't a little more important than the German speaking market?

Guys, calm down. Have you ever taken into consideration that there might be a language barrier? For many Germans it's obviously more handy to communicate in German than in English. Besides that I don't see any bias here in the forum. Look at the German forum - it's almost empty whereas the international forum seems to be used more frequently.

Additionally, I'd rather not get an answer or wait for a couple of weeks and instead get a great game. Without annoying bugs and the like.

The release will be in september - for quite a lot of languages (german, english; UK and US, french etc). We will have quite a simultaneous release of the game european and worldwide.

RE: Release Date
The developer response to the community for this game seems adequate. Have you ever seen other developers post things so quickly about other games? Most developers have a "behind closed doors" approach, only releasing information on press releases. The only other developers I've seen to be quite responsive have been the Creative Assembly, but most others are pretty silent. I think people need to calm down.

Of course, it wouldn't hurt if the developers could release more details Wink

Hummn? German humor stands up there alongside British cooking for universal appreciation of top quality. I can only hope the translation will result in an actual "improvement"!

Yep, we stupid posters should go back into our silent corner and get ready to spend our money in September, or maybe October.

Perhaps from your view-point; not from ours.

There have been two published interviews. Yes, the Bulgarian one was abortive. But the early German one was never followed-up with an official translation -- so far as I have seen.

Kalypso has an office in the UK. Has kalypso yet designated a marketing agent in the USA? There is only four and one-half months to go folks -- if you are going to meet your date.

My friend, we are not part of the "Cabbage Patch Kid Tribe" who were just left by the stork under a large head of cabbage in the field.

A lot of what we post is intended to help the developers and publishers to avoid the "bugs" and the like.

A biggie is to develop a really interested fan base with a serious marketing effort. The USA market -- well, it's different. Yes, you get some sales just by having your product appear on the shelf. Maybe that's all you want.

BUT -- really, why should I care? ???

Toungue RE: Release Date August 2009 - Steam
Steam (http://www.steampoweredgames.com) shows Tropico 3 to release on their digital download service August 2009. Id also add that for it to be released there it is in English and available to the American market.

So, no more complaining!

Now where is my Demo!!! Tongue

O.K. Kalypso can not give us an exact date, but "Steam" can.

Wonderful!

Yeah, you as a native German speaker know about that for sure, don't you? Wink

BTW: The release date stated by Kalypso is September. I think the development team knows better than an online distributor. Wink

Icke Wrote:Yeah, you as a native German speaker know about that for sure, don't you?

The humor of native German speakers is lost upon us who are not so gifted -- and it gets worse by translation which is doomed to lose the idioms upon which it may depend. Even the so-called British humor done in what is called "English" has to be translated for Americans. My sarcastic point is intended to point out that "humor" which is language dependent doesn't travel well.

That styles of cooking likewise don't travel well is illustrated by the lack of British style cooking in cafes in the US -- "fish & chips" being one of the few to be found. Can you point to others?

Quote:BTW: The release date stated by Kalypso is September. I think the development team knows better than an online distributor.

Well I would hope so. My sarcastic remark was to emphasize that posters seem to assume that anything they see on the internet is the absolute truth. But the August date keeps getting repeated here on this forum. Please don't blame me for that. I guess you don't love "STEAM".

Nice try, but I think I got your sarcastic remark regarding to German humor and English cuisine in the first place. No problem. I do know about the prejudices people have towards Germany (Hasselhoff, Sauerkraut and beer 24/7 and so on) and I also know that it's mostly meant as a joke. And even if it is meant seriously: I don't effin' care. Wink
(EDIT: I'm a German currently living/studying/working in the US. Therefore I get some awkward remarks all the time.)

And concerning STEAM: I don't even know what that is supposed to be. Hence, I don't have any antipathy to it.

No need to roll your eyes - they might get stuck.

Let's all just hope that T3 will be a really good game reminding us of all the fun we had with the first part of the series and that it'll work in as many languages as possible. Wink
