Paved Roads
Roads are really annoying me at the moment, there needs to be a way of building paved roads, as the longest roads for me are usually to the dock, airport or tourist area which can be a long way off from the main 'downtown' and therefore don't get paved and remain a muddy track. In real life these would be the most important roads to keep in a good and safe condition.

At the moment i'm building random (and usually empty) houses along the roads to make them paved, (mansions don't make the road upgrade to paved for some reason?) which just looks stupid imo.

and don't get me even started on traffic problems.

RE: Paved Roads
originally there were supose to be differences between them. Or atleast it was talked about. paved roads traffic moved slower and such. But that was changed and now the only difference is graphical.

that said, i wish we could control if the road was paved or dirt. Often it looks really silly seeing a tiny patch of pavement, or the other way around.

As far as your other traffic problems, try different layouts on your island. If you have under 1000 people and are having problems it's your layout that is the issue 95% of the time. More than that, there can be a few trouble spots, but a well made island can really get up and over 1300 and still not have issues.

Islands are big these days, so spread things out a bit more and it should help. It just takes more planing is all.

RE: Paved Roads
Ironically, I am starting to miss that you cannot pave some things and keep it green and natural. Making naturally looking parks is impossible in this game.

I know I moaned about the lack of pavement for T3. Can't have it all, huh?

RE: Paved Roads
The first thing I do when I start a game is check the overlays for resources, farms and pastures. This give me a basic idea of how to create my road system. I noticed if I conected one building with drive way to another building with a driveway a paved road appears. Example connecting a road from one garage to another. I agree with spreading out early theory (Keeps polution more under control). Roads are cheap. I also check Volcano and Tsunami free zone (I put most of expensive stuff here). Once figure what I am going to put where, I create a road grid with at least two spaces from the road and around the building to add things like trees, water, statues, ect. I develop zones within my road grid, housing, entertainment, tourism, ect.
