Communist faction and other factions
In Tropico, communists and capitalists hate each other, but that seems sort of limited considering the other factions.

Religious faction - Marxism and the USSR were anti-religious to the extreme.

Nationalist faction - Communism views everyone as comrades regardless of nationality and calls for one global communist government.

Shouldn't communists have tasks involving these two factions or vice versa? Now they just ask you to build houses and ranches. That seems so moderate considering that communists are generally viewed as extremists.

Big Grin RE: Communist faction and other factions
I suggest that you are trying to imprint too much of your ideas about the "real world" on the Tropico "game world."

It is a game and not a simulation. It looks somewhat like the so-called real world, but you have to spin your head around several times and travel into the world of TROPICO!

Think about it like Dorothy traveling to the World of OZ -- then you will find much more comfort in playing in "Tropico."

I think it is way to easy to please both the communist and capitalist factions at the same. Also, communists are only seen as extremists in certain countries. Outside the USA, most countries have fairly large socialist and communist parties that actually hold government seats.

1) Actually, the Communists and Capitalists in Tropico do NOT hate each other. Rather, like ALL of the factions in the game, they are entirely focused on getting what _they_ want. Sometimes, giving to one faction means there is nothing left for a different faction.

2) There is Communism the theory, and then there is/was Communism as practiced by the Soviets, and by the Chinese, and by the Albanians, etc. Not ALL Communists are hostile to religion. Communism is about evening out Wealth across the population in the here-and-now. Religion is about being a Good Person and getting your reward in the next life.

3) To Nationalists, it doesn't matter at all that Communists view them as comrades. Nationalism is all about, "_MY_ nation, first and foremost!" You aren't going to see much in the way of comradely affection from Nationalists towards anyone that isn't a native-born Tropican.

4) See #1.

One of the capitalist tasks in Tropico 4 is "arrest the leader of the Communist Faction." That's a clear sign of hatred to me. Besides that, capitalists like high income disparity and communists like low disparity. Also, the free housing edict hurts the capitalists and helps the communists.

Yeah, I was saying that they are idealistically opposed. Nationalists want Tropico to be the greatest nation on Earth and communists have no national identity whatsoever. Besides, communists are the far left and skinheads... I mean nationalists are the far right.

RE: Communist faction and other factions
No need for them to hate each other. Your own town probably has some of all those factions and you don't see them killing each other, do you? Strictly speaking I am also a communist as I value education and healthcare the highest, but I do not have problems with people who have other priorities.

Although the nationalists 'could' sir up some trouble if there are too many immigrants on your island - requiring a few more police officers. But these mechanics must be implemented very carefully or they may crash the game mechanics.

I've completed the campaign and play in the sandbox for a bit. I haven't as of yet encountered that one. For the most part, as long as a faction is getting what it wants, they don't pay attention to what the other factions are getting. I would guess that in your game, your Capitalists were at less than 40% Respect = they are NOT getting what they want. RE: Communist faction and other factions
I too felt its way too easy to please both communists and capitalists. I suppose playing with settings of crazed rebels should help, but factions with sub50% happiness still don't seem to rebel much as long as overall happiness is kept reasonably high, which becomes easier as the economy develops.

Rebeling in my experience means GRAH I CAN"T WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR FOR A NEW CHURCH. then they go sit in the hills and watch the condominiums come up, then accept amnesty and come home.

I'm hoping the new dlc makes the military aspect a little more interesting.
