Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
I have been a fan of tropico from the first one and have been enjoying playing tropico 4 on the xbox 360 but I am finding that it is crashing often (mainly when saving, corrupting the save file and losing the hours of playtime!) this is making the game unplayable and I am at the point of putting down and never returning to it.

Is Kalypso getting a fix for this sorted out and if so, when is it due?

You might need to provide more detail than "crashing and corrupting the save file". Things like:
  • What are you doing that leads up to it? (And does repeating this ensure the same result?)
  • Do you have problems with any other game?
  • Have you got a modchip?

There's nothing for Kalypso to fix. I have the Xbox version along with 5 friends and none of us have had a problem. It has to be your Xbox.

Is it installed to the HDD?
Have you cleared your cache? Yes it's possible on the Xbox.
Uninstall and reinstall to your HDD.
Exchange for another copy.

Hello,
No problems with other games, no chip on my xbox's, does the same on the new one i have and an older one. Saving after 1975 with a lot going onto to your island, mainly when it's saving also sometimes it just freezing randomily but that doesn't destroy your save file.
Cheers

Thank you for your reply. I have tried it one two xbox's, a new one and an older one, same problem. I'll try installing it and then clearing the cache, very helpful thanks.

My game freezes at loading. Population 300+. New game loads just fine. Really sucks. When will you fix it.

They won't be able to fix anything they can't recreate. In comparison to T3s problems, this is a very isolated incident which you've got virtually no chance of being "fixed"

What population do you have on your island. It's only happened once to me when I had about 550 people (600 is xbox limit). I've managed to get to the limit with no problems before but this time I was overwriting a save more often rather than making new saves so this may have been a contributer.

RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
I've had this similar problem but very isolated. My biggest problem was the game not even recognizing my hard drive but that went away when I unistalled it (I'm playing on the 360) and installed it again. The habit I got into was to save right after your annual report comes up. That way you always have a current save and its a good reminder as well. Sometimes even if it crashes during saving the file isn't corrupted. Just reload the game and try again. It should work.

Please provide more information. Are you running the game from disc or is it installed on the HDD? Which mission are you playing (campaign/sandbox), what's the population count? What was the exact action triggering the crash and can you reproduce the crash by loading an earlier savegame or starting a new mission?

Exclamation RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
Hi thanks for the quick response!

The Xbox freezes completely and has the Power button to restart.

We play from HDD 250 GB Xbox Slim. New dashboard / Germany.
Mission Campaign. - Seems to be on all missions! Now we have had the third crash in the last 20 Minutes! Actual population over 520.

The HDD/cache was cleaned up no rubbish on it. Game was installed again.

The problem occurs from approximately 300 + population. Often, if you want to save, but even if you just play...

Sometimes it is shown during a savegame, a light blue screen. The menus are usually still visible. Sometimes you can still keep playing after it - but that makes little sense, because the scriptures are hard to read any more. We then had to start again anyway.

Often after a crash savegames are destroyed. Not very funny! Loosing hours of play time and not remembering all the last changes on the map ! SadSad

When we load an older savegame after a crash, the console freezes not again at the same point!

The problem is on TWO new Xbox 360 - No extra devices connected to the console. Changing the resolution for the TV also brought no change.

We find it a shame because the game is so good, but the crashes are slowly taking the joy ....

Best regards and please fix it SmileSmile

ps.: my girls playing and we have now again a crash....!!

--- Is there no patch in progress????

- We stopped now playing T4!

Population is about 600 in and game freezes now every time. That makes is unplayable! Have the beta-testers never reached 400+ ??

So there is now reason fpr us to buy the nice add-ons.

best regards.

RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
Im having the same problems and also stopped playing T4....

The first problem i had happened when i went to save the game during a campaign mission, the screen froze and locked my xbox up and i couldnt press anything so had to use the main power button to reboot, this was quite eairly in the game so i wasnt to bothered... The second time was on mission campaign level 3 towards the end, I saved my game and turned my xbox off and when i started it back up the same happened again as it was loading the screen froze and couldnt press anything etc.... So i thought it there may be a problem saving on the cloud so went to transfer the save accross onto my hard drive and noticed it was a corrupt save file... Save file deleted which meant i had to start all over again which was a process i started yesterday managed to get to campaign mission 4 last night, Saved the game turned off my xbox and started again this morning... Half the way through Level 4 went to save and it crashed again... Had to start level 4 again half way through and it crashed again...

Im playing on an older 120gb elite with the game saved onto the HD

I hope you manage to find the problem as i cant be bothered wasting anymore time on this game so far ive lost over 20hrs game time

Unreal - sounds eerily similar to the problem with T3 that was never fixed. I'm rapidly losing confidence in the developer after the T3 Xbox debacle, the unwillingness to address the scroll speed issues in T4 for PC, and now this. Very troubling to see them crank out the expansions and DLC without addressing the core problems...

RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
Hi I'd just like to add my voice to this issue, I've had game lock up on me 3 times this weekend alone both when saving and when playing.. I'm working through campaign mode from the Disc and not HDD, for me the lockup happen when saving late in the game normally I have lots of buildings on the Island and with population of 400+ in the the years c1975+. I know its about to happen as the gameplay starts to stutter when in Top-Speed Time Mode. The controls become sluggish and its hard to move around the map. I'm normally lucky in that I can get a save in quickly and it doesn't corrupt but the game seems to get more and more sluggish and the stuttering continues which is the prelude to the next save is going to be a corrupt one. The latest lock up I just had (before googling "tropico 4 xbox locking up" and posting to this forum) i've had a 4 year window between the last save and the locking up while saving.

Running on a New Xbox and a clear HDD in Standard Def with no Mod's

Have Gamefly, got both T3 and T4. Both give Red Ring after playing for little while, it does not matter what statistics are going on. No other game does this. Gamefly sent another copy of T3 and the disc did the same thing. Not installed on HDD. No DLC. Connected to XBL in case of updates as well. Needing answers ASAP.

RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
I love this game. BUT!!! I have been trying to deal with this crash issue with little success and my patients are thin. I am playing " Tropico Above All " and the game will freeze and I have to eject the game and reload. So after reading this thread I can tell you this;
-I'm using the disk (not downloaded)
-I have 520 residents
-I have 5 of 7 records ( last 2 almost complete)
-I have 60% approval
-I'm making approximately $60k/year
-I have a 20GB HDD with lots of space left

-First the game crashed and I thought it had to do with the rain storm on the island along with the advisor talking to me, and every other moving piece at the same time. But I kept loading the saved game and tried many different strategies (one at a time) including changing speeds, zooming out, moving the map to untouched land, and it still crashes 20 seconds or less after I load. Sometimes after it freezes I wait a while and I can hear the rain come to an end, or one of the people in the game start talking to me, but it never unfreezes....

I searched the for downloads/updates/patches and there doesn't seem to be any for the XBOX... I hope one comes soon because I'm so upset I'm ready to toss this game out.

I started the level over and I am going to try and beat the level before reaching 500 residents. Wish me luck.

Sad RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
Hmm. I've just experienced serious crashes on the Xbox as well. Sad

Was doing mission 4, I think ('into the spotlight'), and I went to load up and continue my game but it crashes consistently when trying to load the savegame. I had no crashes while playing the mission or while making saves, but now it crashes when trying to load those saves and continue where I left off.

The most recent save had my population at just under 300, and year 1974. The game is installed to the hard drive.

I made quite a few saves during the mission and tried going back to earlier ones, but one by one they all crashed while trying to load . . . until I went back +5 years and managed to get one to actually load, but as soon as I started to scroll it then crashed. I had to go back about 10 years and around 10 saves before I was able to load up a stable one (have not tested it thoroughly but there were no immediately crashes).

If I believed this was an isolated issue and a one off, I'd still be angry but I'd get over it. I get the feeling this is not just a one off, however, and is a game breaking glitch that will now be waiting to happen in every game, which is unacceptable in my opinion. I'm not sure now if I'll even bother to return to the game as it is - why invest all that time and effort for it all to just get corrupted and become inaccessible later on? If I could return my game and just get my money back, I would.

Every game has its glitches, some worse than others, but problems of this magnitude, where entire games that you've invested hours upon hours into are just completely lost . . . that's just ridiculous.

The only unusual thing I noticed during that game, significant enough to cause these problems or not I have no idea, but I'll detail it anyway.

I noticed on at least one citizen (an immigrant), but possibly more than one, that when accessed, their stats permanently showed up incorrectly, like they themselves were corrupted somehow. Their stat window was all screwed up. It was similar to how it looks when you try to access a dead person. If you kill a criminal or something, and watch them get taken out and then click on them when they're dead/dying - their stat window, the job skill part, is messed up. The corrupted citizen was almost like a dead person stat wise but they were definitely not dead, but alive and employed.

That is the only clearly glitchy thing I noticed while playing that particular game, but yeah, I don't know if that's enough to corrupt the whole game altogether.

I kept track of this citizen while loading up older saves and the only save I managed to load and that was stable was one before that guy showed up on my island.

So my advice would be to others (and that I will observe myself if I ever go back to it) is to keep an eye on your people - especially immigrants. Do a check on every immigrant when they first arrive and if you notice anyone with a screwy stat window in any section then I'd recommend you reload an earlier save. You can't kill the screwy citizen either! Else I'd have tried. You can't select any of the special options when you bring up their stats. I guess you never know - maybe one glitched citizen is enough to glitch the whole game. *shrugs*

One other definite glitch I've noticed that caused the game to crash during play 100% every time was the Museum of Science or whatever it's called. I noticed while zoomed in on it at one point that from the front it looked like the back wall was transparent as you could kind of see right through it, which I thought was weird - I rotated round the building and it crashed. Tried it several times so as to know what to avoid doing in case I crashed my game, and I was able to get it to crash every single time, and not from doing exactly the same thing. From then on I did not zoom in near a Museum of Science and actually never built one since because of that.

After my issues with Mission 5 freezing on me, I started over and beat the level before hitting 500 residents and had no issues. I'm currently on level 11 Fruity Business. I have since had only 1 or 2 times where where I surpassed 500 residents and I had no issues on those levels. I make sure to keep 4-5 separate save points during the levels just in case.

RE: Tropico 4 - Xbox 360 - CRASH PROBLEM
Hi,

I spent hours and hours playing Tropico 3 and loving this game, trying to build biggest cities possible through the sandbox... And encountering crashes and freezes as soon as things become complex and ambitious.

I played a xbla version of the game (installed on a wide 250 go hdd), and saw my huge town freeze permanently when i did reach a certain point of development (year 2017, 600 + people... rha) : then i definitely stopped playing this game, in order to stop wasting both my time and my mood :-/

I planned to buy Tropico 4 and the whole pack of DLC's available, with the insanely optimistic hope that these troubles would have been fixed : and then i read this thread.
As long as it is impossible to build hours and hours "megalopolis" without breaking nerves on a permanent crash, it will be no way for me.

So bad >:-(

No problems with Fruity Business. Again I beat the level before reaching 500 residents.

Is Kalypso getting a fix for this sorted out and if so, when is it due?

There's nothing for Kalypso to fix. I have the Xbox version along with 5 friends and none of us have had a problem. It has to be your Xbox.

Is it installed to the HDD?
Have you cleared your cache? Yes it's possible on the Xbox.
Uninstall and reinstall to your HDD.
Exchange for another copy.

I have had the same problems with 3 & 4!!! I would not buy anything from this company again! How do you have the problem for 3 and know it, and then not fix it for 4??????

LOL What a dumb A$$!!! So mister I have 5 friends that has it...You must be right and all the other 1000+ people reporting the same problems are wrong...I am pretty sure that there are another 10,000 people that just stopped playing it and said screw it like I did with T3. It sure would be nice if somebody from the company would read the threads and get back to some of us...

Thats good to know thanks (Y).

My best advice would be to never overwrite saves but to make new saves, and save often. Also, if you are getting paranoid that you are getting close to the population size that crashes the game then you should load your new save to see if it crashes before deleting the previous save.
