Tropico 4 installation error
I put the Tropico 4 cd in and let it autorun until the installation launcher screen comes up. When I click on the "install" Button I get an error message box saying

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

This happens whether I let it autorun or open the setup.exe from the CD. Anynoe else experience this or have any suggestions? This has never happened to me before.
Update:

I also right-clciked on the setup.exe and autorun.exe from the cd and selected "run as administrator" and got the same results. This is my private PC and not a shared PC. I also satisfy all the stated requirements to run this game and had no problem whatsoever downloading and playing the demo.

Which drive or folder are you trying to install in? Maybe using another drive/folder solves the problem. although it sounds very weird.

I don't even get to the point where I have to choose a destination. I get the error message as soon as I click on the "Install" button. When I go open the CD and clcik on the setup.exe I get the error message instantly.
I agree that it's very wierd, none of my other programs or files does this and the game was bought brand new from Gamestop

hmm, I think the installer tries to extract some data on drive c: while preparing the installation. is there enough space left on drive c: for temporary data?

I have 31.2 Gb free on drive C. I would think that would be plenty.
When I open the cd and right click the setup.exe file, I selected properties then clicked on the "comaptibility tab and the check box for "run as administrator is grayed out."

I only have one profile on my PC, so how can I change that so that I have administrator priveleges? I've been the only owner of this this PC and haven't ever had a problem installing games in the past. Why the heck should I have to run this thing as administrator in the first place?

Try copying the contents of the CD/DVD to a folder on the drive, then running it from there. I've only ever seen the error in the original post when I had something strange happening with my optical drive setup (usually my own fault, sometimes a Windows bug back in the 90s).

If the error changes, it means there's more one than thing at play here Wink

Try running normally from the local copy, then try running as an admin if that fails. Changes to the error between these steps is also important.

RE: Tropico 4 installation error
I had the exact same issue. I had to "unhide" the Administrator log on. Once that was completed i was able to log in as the Admin and run the set up.

Here are the instructions I used:

You may try to enable the hidden default administrator account on your computer and check if you can change the settings in the account.

Here’s how you enable built-in admin account.

1. Go to start and type cmd in the search field.
2. Right-click on cmd listed and click on “Run as Administrator”.
3. Once the command prompt opens, type the following command.

net user administrator /active:yes

You should see a message that the command completed successfully.

Log out, and you’ll now see the Administrator account. Log in to the Administrator account and check if you can change the settings.

Hope this helps you Big Grin
