[MOD] Metropicopolis
Hello! Smile
This is my first topic & mod. I'm spaniard so excuse my poor english.

Certain buildings with a massive population are not enough, and you need to build a lot of them triggering prohibitive maintenance costs. This mod increase the number of workers and citizens who use it, as follows:

Apartments: 200 families (for about 450 pob.)
If you build the climate control, the house quality inscreases to 300.
This building could be a little laggy... but don't worry, not is a serious problem.

Hospital: 10 workers, 100 spots.
Aspirins for all!

Cathedral: 10 workers, 100 spots.
OMG, and never better.

Elementary School*: 10 workers, 100 spots.
I love this; very useful.

Zoo*: 10 workers, 100 spots.
Because this building it's always brimming.

Shopping Mall: 10 workers, 100 spots.
Discounts season, by courtesy of China.

Teamsters Office: 50 workers.
I hope they not have to pay tolls.

TV Station: 50 workers
There's no much quality employs for women.

Dock: 10 workers
To safeguard exports/imports.

Skyscraper Hotel: 10 workers, 100 spots.
Watch out: 100 tourists = 100 taxis.

Palace: 10 workers
By request

Guard Station: 7 workers
By request

I made this thanks to the help of Swixel (the Tyrannus mod creator), who shown the basics of tropico moding. I can make this type of changes in any building, if you need something like this in other buildings, or want some for separately, just say it.

Default install directory for Windows:
C:\Program Files\Kalypso Media\Tropico 4\Packs\boot\persist
(If you've download the ZIP extract the files of your choice there)

Uninstall:
Just remove the file. The savegames with buildings of this mod will not work correctly after uninstall, so you should delete it too. No other side effects knowed; is quite simple.

Download it here:

One mod by each building:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36178952/Metropicopolis.zip

All buildings in one mod:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36178952/Metropicopolis_ALL.hpk

Upgrades:

- Reduced Grade School to 10 workers/100 spots to prevent a bug in the entrance of building.
- The internal lua files are now separately for each building for better efficiency of the mod.
- Added a ZIP with one mod by each building separately.
- Added Palace and Guard Station requests.

Next Upgrade:

- Reduced Grade School to 5 workers / 50 spots to prevent more the same bug in the entrance of building.
- Museum: 5 workers / 50 spots
- TV Station: 100 workers

* Bugs
- The buildings what have an people animation, like the primary school, doesn't work properly. You should demolish it every certain time (about 5 years or so) to liberate the frozen citizens on the entrance.

Enjoy it! Have fun!

Not bad, though you are throwing balance out the window for a few cheap tweaks.

As a note on the English in the post, you might want to change
Quote:If you build the upgrade, the house quality inscreases to 300!
so that it includes a reference to the 'default upgrade', or 'climate control', as otherwise it seems to imply that you've added an upgrade.

Thanks again, post modified.

I made this mod for my fun, I haven't thought about balance. I usually like to create compact cities with great accessibility for residents. It makes the game much easier, of course; is their real objetive.

This is very great for when you have 1,000+ citizens.
Could you possibly edit the Palace to have 10 guard slots? And the Guard stations to have 7 job slots?

RE: [MOD] Metropicopolis
Truthfully, when I wrote the guide to do this, the aim was more personal tweaks on things, and to get people interested in looking into what else was going on. Not many people have asked me how upgrades actually work -- they're not magic, there is a fair whack of code involved in them too Wink

For efficiency, the internals of this mod should probably be split into multiple files, one for each building type (you can see the names of the buildings if you extract the Game.hpk file, then look inside Game/Classes/Buildings, and ignore the "Impl" files). You could also distribute it as a zip, as someone else pointed out to me in the music thread, and have users extract it into the Tropico 4 directory (so it creates Game/Thunder, and then puts your files into it). Then people could turn them on/off.

Though I'll again raise issues of balance, not necessarily for your own sake, but bear in mind that you will break your score, and there are ways to irritate people in the game if you don't understand how the internal balance checks work. Also note that breaking your scores deliberately by doing this could result in lock-downs by Kalypso...

As an aside: I have my own method of circumventing any/all lockdowns should they come into play, and intend to re-release Tyrannus on that platform should it come to pass.

Swixel, i'm learning to make mods step by step, and i'm on the first one: creating a "Hello World" hpk that works. I appreciate your advices and I learn from them, but for now i'm an absolute noob in pro level code of luas.

That's fair enough, I just mean that people asking about things being added should probably look into how you did it in this case, and try it themselves Wink

I'm also no "lua pro". I knew nothing about it before I started reversing Tropico 4's codebase.
