low fps during some fights + how to discern buffs
I have a question regarding the performance of the game: I am playing with an Athlon II X2 250 and a Geforce 285 GTX - usually the performance of the game is quite good. On highest settings about 70 to 80 fps on the map. However, sometimes I experience during battles some short, but severe frame drops when some mages use their abilities, for example the Dryad or the Lich Queen. Is this normal or should I install a better GPU/CPU?

A second question: where can I see in the game the length of buffs, i.e. how many rounds for example Armor + 15 is active? I usually just can see that my units have buffs, but neither which exactly nor how long.

thanks in advance,

lead

Most people experience slow downs with some animations. The main one for me is the theurogist's reduce armor spell.

Its a bit of a pain to view the name and duration of buffs/debuffs. When you bring up the units info by right clicking on them, you have to scroll down to the lower right corner where the buff icons are displayed and right click on them to read the name and duration. Only it sounds easier than it is, cause I believe releasing the mouse button at any time before you get to the icon and the info screen goes away. I played a long while before I even knew the buff icons in the unit creens were right clickable.

Thanks for the advice - I tried exactly as you explained, but to no avail. I right-click on the character-screen, scroll down and want to right-click there, but the character info screen goes away. Did you find some way to "make it stay" so you can right-click the buff-icons?

Its been awhile since I've done it so didn't explain it too well. I just tried it and the trick is once you get on top the icon, you have to left click the icon to keep the info screen from disappearing and then right click again in the same spot to bring up the icon buff info.
Its wacky I know and I guess I first did it by accident once.

I'll post a screen in a few.

EDIT Screen below. This is actually a pain how it works. During the entire process you have to have either the right moue button or the left button depressed. As soon as both are realeased the scree will disappear again. So after getting the info screen to display, keep holding down the right mosue button and move on top of the icon by the arrow I made in the screen. At this point hit the left mouse button to "pin" the info screen. Then depress the right mouse button. Without having any point where neither button is depressed. In fact I think once you pin the info screen using the left button, You can keep the left button depressed and then depress the right button so both are pressed down. Like I said, its a pain.

Thanks a lot for the advice and for the effort you put in placing the screenshot. I think without your advice I would have never guessed how to do that. Finally I can plan my battles a little better since I know when a certain buff will finish.

Regarding performance: in general fps in battles are a little low (between 30 and 35). You don´t know some way (may patch or nvidia-configuration) to improve performance?

I haven't read about anyway to improve it. Some of the spells they use perhaps could have been made as area spells instead of attack all and rebalanced accordingly so they would be less graphic intensive. I'm stumped on that one, though the game plays well on my laptop. Probably because of the low resolution. The bigger the monitor/resolution, the greater the slow down would be.

RE: low fps during some fights + how to discern buffs
I finally found out that Disciples 3 Renaissance is extremely CPU-sensitive. Maybe this might be a good hint for other players too: until now I played with a Athlon X2 (3 GHZ). I saved the game during the 4th act (first campaign) before a specific battle. On this system I had about 35 fps, and while my wizard used spells frames decreased significantly. So I built a new system today with my (old) Core 2 Duo E8500 (@3,8). Well, I am no graphics freak (gameplay is considerably more important), but now it is much "smoother" to play. In this very same battle I get 75 fps (more than the double), and even using spells fps don´t drop lower than 50. I was quite amazed about that outcome.
