RE: Kalypso Announces "Tropico 4: Modern Times" Expansion
I'm looking forward to all the organic stuff. Can't wait to create my personal utopia.

And I hope that the water treatment thingy is a substitute for the garbage dump. I don't like to have the garbage dumps in my cities ^^.

Mass transportation would be awesome as well to make those slow pedestrians don't waste their lives commuting. I would opt for a bus systems where you just place stops and a central station. Then the bus can circle freely and people can hop on and off.

I don't like trains because the railways tend to clutter the terrain (I'm looking at YOU, civ!).

Anyone???

I wish Kalypso would focus on the entire world instead of just North America. It is rather annoying and there is no need to stop other countries from accessing the dlc's.

I like the idea of a early starting date.. fun things like natives to deal with, or saphari, lots of ways this could blend.. id definatly buy that DLC!

I am very currious if there has been any behind the sceanes play added? any changes to things like criminals, or the way any of the other core engine? What about additions to the really nice challenge editor?

I love that you are adding more edicts, thats been high on the list sence T3..

All of this stuff should have been in the regular game./ Kalypso is turning into a nickel and dime EA type company. Sad.

Does the 30 new buildings include the upgrades for the old? is "modern bank" a new building for the count?

I really want to get more details, looks exciting.

If the game didnt sell well, this expansion would not happen.. Just look at "the first templar" the game didnt sell well, now there is no add on.. dungeons and tropico on the other hand sold well, so more money was put into developing expansions, and now we have more content to play with.

that said, no one is making you buy it. You could just wait for them to announce that they are done working on T4, and wait for the release of the "gold" version. JUst be happy that people do buy the stuff when its released, Or you wouldn't have any content to complain about not being in the original game.

And this is the key, right here. No one has to buy it. But for 20 dollars this appears to be really interesting, new edicts, buildings, transportation improvements. I hope there's more coming, but I'm very intrigued by what I see (modernization is also useful).

I hope the 'transportation improvements' aren't just getting a new set of cars... and that skyscraper looks completely out of place.. just why...? (AND WHERE ARE MY TRAFFIC LIGHTS?!)

but other than that, modernisation, new transport and buildings sounds PERFECT!

RE: Kalypso Announces "Tropico 4: Modern Times" Expansion
traffic cop that could be placed at locations of your choice similiar to the tourist destination from the tourist office.

i'd also like more user interface fixes/updates like being able to add air conditioning to ALL buildings with one click like setting the rent for all buildings of that type...

being able to water ALL fields with one click...

being able to rebuild ALL damaged buildings from tsunamis, tornadoes, earthquakes etc..

i'd also like for example when i click on one teamster office and it shows the workers, the ability to double click on that building and it shows ALL teamsters on the map... same with other buildings like construction office, farms, police, fire, etc.....
when i click on the edict button and select an edic i'd like it to go back to that edict menu instead of just closing out.
when placing buildings, farms, mines etc i'd like it to place multiple ( like the apartment building) instead of having to use the hot key to select last placed item..

I want to be able to buy (in addition to fishing wharfs) fishing trawlers, where fisherman can go further away from shore and can haul in more fish.
I'd like an upgrade option for the tv station or radio station for a news/ traffic chopper that could give reports so people could help avoid the inevitable traffic jams cause the tropicans are to stupid to go any route other than the shortest.
An upgrade for the hospital to have an medivac helicopter
I'd like to not have to build a church every two blocks to get religious satisfaction .. ya i know you can put in a newspaper or tv station to cover religious satisfaction but still end up with way to many churches...

I'd like some choices for el presidente like a option for his own helicopter to get around the island faster than in his limo..

i'd also like the option to capture, torture and kill el diablo and the stupid englishman.. lol just to name a few things..

Registered just to ask, but will Tropico 4: Modern times be sold in a retail box (like the Tropico 3 expansion) or will it be digital download only? Also, will it be bundled with Tropico 4 into new "Gold Editions" like what we had with Tropico 3?

Thanks! Smile

Edit 26/1/2012: Amazon is selling the expansion for £19.99, though the page for it is mysteriously blank. I'm assuming that means the expansion will be boxed as Amazon UK have yet to get their download service running, at least compared to the US version.

GREAT! Really looking forward for this.
But couldn't it be possible to add "multiplayer" in this?
Like you play on your island, your friend can play on his island, then you can
go over to his and have meetings and so on. Just like a "alliance" with
each other, no war stuff or anything. Just strictly political.

He want's start trading with you, you go over there and have a discussion about it. And this alliance can be on some "rank system" depending on happiness, population and so on. He comes to your island, but he is not popular and it breaks out in riots. Like Göteborg in Sweden 2001 when Bush came.

Sorry for not posting these earlier, but we have officially released the the first screenshots of Modern Times. Note these are all taken from real-time gameplay and are not altered in any way except for the obvious removal of the HUD. Enjoy and comment:

So from what I see, the DLC packs will be included in the Modern Times Expansion.

And from what I see, the pirate restaurant will be one of those structures that brings certain tourists over similar to the Cosmic Pin.

They will not be included in the expansion. The screenshots shown are from a game where the DLC was already available.

You will of course be able to use any purchased DLC in the Modern Times campaign and sandbox mode, though.

A question I have.

There's any implementation in traffic system, with better roads (four lanes maybe)? Or faster cars, bus, trains.
Something to make the city modern in infra-structure too?

Since I posted too early and would like to get some answers, here's a re-post of something I said earlier on these Forums...

(13-01-2012 06:46 PM)TurtleShroom Wrote:  I have some concerns about this.

Will this eliminate the commie/capitalist wars? Will it kill the USSR and the Comrade with the Shiny Hair? What about the Cold War? Is the USSR still going to be permanent?

What if we don't WANT to modernize? Can we lock Tropico in the past with old-timey buildings and farmhand labor? (That should be our choice!)

Can we combine old and new? What if we want to have a space-faring economy with coal-powered plants and obsolete tech? Or, what if we decide not to go with cell phones and Internet?

Even more so: the Internet was an American invetion from the Department of Defense's ARPA in the 1960s. It became used in the early 1970s and went public in the 1990s. How will Tropico, which starts your tale in 1950, fix this?

-and the communists! Please keep the USA versus USSR going! I'd love to see the USSR deal with Al-Qaeda or see communism spring up in the Middle East!

This is a dangerous path. I don't want a whole new, non-Cold War Tropico. The Cold War jokes are the best part!!

Friends, what will you do to ensure the glory of obsolete 1950s cars and low-tech tin rooves of Tropico can merge seamlessly with space shuttles and the Internet?

Remember Betty Boom's wisdom:

Question RE: Kalypso Announces "Tropico 4: Modern Times" Expansion
Modern Times is a 1936 comedy film by Charlie Chaplin that has his iconic Little Tramp character struggling to survive in the modern, industrialized world.

It is Chaplin's last 'silent' film, filled with sound effects, made when everyone else was making talkies. Charlie turns against modern society, the machine age (the use of sound in films ?), and progress. Firstly we see him frantically trying to keep up with a production line, tightening bolts. He is selected for an experiment with an automatic feeding machine, but various mishaps leads his boss to believe he has gone mad, and Charlie is sent to a mental hospital. When he gets out, he is mistaken for a communist while waving a red flag, sent to jail, foils a jailbreak, and is let out again. We follow Charlie through many more escapades before the film is ended.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0027977/

I guess the copyright on the title has expired.

Actually, CoconutKid, you can't copyright titles. You can copyright creative things like a plot, setting, or characters, and you can trademark a particular word or phrase to distinguish what you are selling from things other are selling. Because A) this is a different medium, B) the game has no relation to the movie in plot, characters, etc. and C) "modern times" is a standard phrase in English, the movie's publisher would never be able to stop Kalypso from using the title.

(I apologize for the pedantry.)
