Demo feedback
Quick an simple remarks I have to make from the demo so far:
-really hard
-AI seems to be cheating (it can shoot me when I cannot shoot back (no clear path to shoot/chance to hit)
-my soldiers suck badly
-huge number of enemy soldiers feels weird
-no fog of war seems like a bad choice still, even though in the demo with fog, you would have an even lesser chance to win
-plan and go seems alright, although it will have to prove itself a bit more
-no destructible terrain is sad, although probably understandable (lots of work). Would enhance the tactical gameplay if implemented
-language is fixed, but this is supposedly changable in the full game
-AI behavior seems like JA2, although without fog of war a lot is lost (yea yea we have a thread about that)
-damage taken resets every action, including grenade throws, which is a bit annoying to have the throw cancel in the middle of the animation
-weapons feel nice and JA-ish
-graphics are really nice, although the locked camera makes it hard to judge when you have a clear line of sight (maybe when aiming at an enemy, make the aim line so that you can see where it starts blocking your view and the line turns red from that on out. Would also need a bit further zoom, so you can see the whole line on long ranges)

That is all what I want to write. Maybe I come up with more later. Anyone else?

RE: Demo feedback
Please keep in mind that the demo map is supposed to be rather hard to master. In the final game, you will only get to this point after about 2/3 of the game. And you will have access to a wider variety of mercs and weapons at that point.

Also, some of the problems of the demo are already fixed in the main game (like the attachements on weapons problem).

The AI is not cheating. You are just badly outnumbered in the demo. Most times, if you cant shoot at an enemy that can shoot you, it is because of height differences. Also, the AI and the balancing has been improved for the final game as well.

RE: Demo feedback
Thanks for the reply. looking forward to the final game, as the plan and go system seems to be nice. Reminds me of setting up Rainbow Six like strategies in the planning phase, only now I do it in a tactics game. Smile

The amount of enemies was a bit ridiculous. Not much experimenting possibility going on there.

Also to the cheating AI, I can guess that it was shooting me in the head, but my weapon was only at shoulder height...don't know.

I also hope the modders will have a good time with the game, so to increas the lifespan and even providing ideas for addons. Big Grin

RE: Demo feedback
Here's my feedback on the demo. On the demo map I tried approaching the first set of enemies and my guys were wiped out easily three separate times, cover or no. Very hard to tell where is good cover. I guess I suck, even though I'm a JA2 veteran. I've heard from others though that the demo map is very easy if you just stay crouched and go on "guard fire", healing whenever someone gets shot, so I don't know.

I tried the tutorial as well, but it seemed to glitch out right after the part where it shows you how to move. Meaning, it gave no more instructions, not sure what happened.

Anyway, I uninstalled the demo, and don't plan on buying the retail. I am disappointed that they didn't stick to the JA2 formula and went in this new direction. Keep in mind, I buy tons of games each year so me NOT buying a game means I really don't like it. I buy many games only to play them for a week if I think they will be interesting or fun.

RE: Demo feedback
I have to retract my statement about the demo being too hard. The problem was that I thought a fire order would be continuous. :s Shame on me. I also thought that the soldiers were put next to the enemies at the maximum engagement distance, which wasn't really the case. Placing them further back makes it a lot easier, with guard mode enabled.

RE: Demo feedback
1st of all :
Thank you for releasing a Demo

Impression : Terrible -

After i played the Demo i grabbed out my old Jagged Alliance 2 CD.
If i could play the old game again BUT - with the graphics of this titel - that would be interesting - i guess i would buy it
(let's say 20 $)

To the new game :
I guess the best thing about JA Back in Action is the package (it makes one think
it could be maybe simular to Jagged Alliance 2)
But it get's not even close to the gameplay or the Atmosphere of the orignial title...it's just crap (Sorry to say this...but sadly this is true)
Even the interface is terrible...
Plan & GO is terrible...
No Fog of War is terrible...

RE: Demo feedback
The demo was updated today, see the changelog for 1.03 - the same changes apply to the demo as well so you may want to give it another shot.
