They used to be able to steal from merchants, poison units, poison ruins, poison cities, duel leaders, etc.

Instead I build a thieves guild and then I get some inferior leader for my troops that can do no thieving actions. I've tried with and without people in its party and on all the buildings and all kinds of buttons and options. NOTHING.

They changed the way thieves worked big time.

They are now leaders. Most of the skills have been changed as well. No more stealing from merchants. Though there is a steal from enemy party skill. They still have duel. And there is a poison skill on the global map as well, though it's bugged.

To get the skills, you need to level them up and acquire the skills on their respective ability grid.

All in all, thieves are broken imo. I hope this is one of the planned changes they bring to Rebirth, because it was one of the unique things that made Disciples different and interesting.

I've even tried modding them back in old-school style. Got very close. But there is a game breaker bug - the AI doesn't acknowledge leadership values. So even though I make them with leadership 0, the AI makes the thief with a full party

In D2, thieves went like this.

Save before thief action.
Reload and try again until it worked.

Took a lot of time and it was just like Pazaak in Kotor 1 and 2.

In D2, reloading was fast. In D3, reloading takes about 20 seconds.

I no longer use thieves ~ever, because of the developer's bizarre change to the core game mechanics. It's like they don't exist now; where as before, they were a significant part of one's army.

Thieves will be changed in next Rebirth patch. Let's hope the best.

Thieves got some of their abilities in Rebirth v1.02 (stealing from merchants included).

Ah well, wishful thinking.

I hope they fix the bug where the AI acknowledges leadership values. If they do this, we can at least mod it.
