As usual, with the release of T3 screenies, no one has stated, whether or not they are of ACTUAL GAME-PLAY.

Until such is declared, I recommend that posters consider the screenies to be from a trailer or a promo.

@ admin

Thank you for the reply.

You are the first person to state that the released screenies HAVE been of game-play.

When called on it, in the past, the publisher and developer have failed to comment on the status of the screenies.

Acknowledging the source of any/all future screenies should be included in the release.

If we sent out a screenshot news, all shots are taken from real gameplay, ever.
But if we release trailer, intro screenshots etc (which we never did until now) we will declare them as such screens.

Now knowing that the buildings represented in the screenies are of game-play, I like the look of the T3 Guard Station.

I actually have few problems with any of the T3 buildings, except for the Comm Tower.

The Comm Tower is not appropriate for a tiny Caribbean isle in the 50's, plus, it is just plain ugly.

First, I don't think anyone considers trailers or promos fake, only different from what a player would typically experience.

I have to agree with El_Malo that it has not been made clearly evident before (and I have been closely watching) that your screenies are produced from a version of the game engine. The wide variety of camera angles and zooms makes one suspicious that this variety will be achieved in game play.

Then as to "real gameplay" -- I have to quibble with your definition. There is no evidence of any player interface, even of a "redact" to protect developmental stuff. Playing with the possible/probable aid of a "de-bug" or other editor with the idea of building a city for screenshots to be used as promotional teasers is far different from playing the full game with all the bells & whistles turned on and the population kicking your butt.

So I don't question that the screenies are (and have been) produced through the game engine in a manner similar to the approach of a player, and are therefore reasonable representations of what a player will be able to do.

I do question that they represent real gameplay unmonitored by a de-bug or editor program.

As i said, they are made from ingame - we did not show the interface yet, because it is not finalized.
We can only say, what we said - if everyone thinks this is not from real ingame, ok - we can't tell people what to believe and/or what not ;-)

the new screens look great. considering we are supposed to be able to walk around as el prez i imagine the level of detail would be quite high...

i hope the interface doesnt take up so much of the screen as in previous versions Wink

I noticed that, too.

There appears to be something that looks like a riverboat and a ship that definitely resembles a oceanic freighter.

It would be nice to know the function of the river-boat looking craft.

There is the seagoing tanker tied up at the refinery, and there is cargo freighter passing by off-shore. The passing cargo freighter is fully ladened with deck cargo containers -- not very realistic for short haul traffic, more like a trans-oceanic transport but really not that big.

The "riverboats" are tourist boats for sight-seeing or pseudo-bus service from the port area to the beach area. They do look like they came right off the Nile or the Danube don't they?

O.K. The shots are from "inside" a real game.

Then there are way, way too few people showing! And only about half enough tourists.

If the people are all going to look like Barbie & Ken in different clothes, then there should be a mob of them.

The first ship is an Oil Tanker, used by the Oil Refinery and the oil platforms at sea. The second one is a tourist cruise ship that docks at the Tourist Dock and delivers tourists to Tropico.

Of course there are not enough people in the game at this moment - that's because it's an internal test-version, not the final game ;-)

Uh, OK... if you say so Rolleyes

No reason that a cruise ship should look like one.

It means that it is still a game - we do not try to make a 100% accurate simulation where every car, house, ship etc must be absolutely accurate in every detail. it is a game. if you're looking for perfect realism, go outside and enjoy the real life ;-)

I beg you pardon??? This are no excuses - we make games, no realistic real-life simulations. We have to find a good compromise between 100% pure detailed realism and games. Beside this we have the freedom to do the games we would like to have them - that's the good about making games instead of making documentaries, movies or whatever where do you have to be 100% realistic. If you do not like the way we make, design and produce games, do me a favor and don't play them.

1. I do not think that we know each other but i would never judge people that i don't know.
2. I explained why we have to make it different than in real life and we do not want to be 100% realistic because
3. It's still game!

and 4. Why do you think you have the right to insult me? (see point 1). You don't know Kalypso and you don't know me - especially not me and what i do for Kalypso...and i did not lost my coolness. I'm just trying to explain ourself - no reason to insult someone...

RE: Tropico 3: Ten new screenshots released!
I agree with Admin. The Tropico games never had the goal to be a 'real-life sim'. I personally like the art direction of Tropico 3, just as much as I liked that of Tropico 1. It would make a bit more sense to see Cruise Ships instead of Riverboats, but the boats they have now look nice nonetheless.
In a game, the artistic freedom of the developers attributes much more to the quality of the gameplay and the fun-level of the game than making everything 100% correct.

Keep up the good work, I hope we'll see some more screenshots and trailers soon Smile

By the way, on the matter of the ships. The two that were showed on the screens, the tourist riverboat and the oiltanker, will these be the only ships we'll see? Or will we see for example real cruise ships for the upscale tourists (and the 'riverboats' for the lower scale ones), cargoships in addition of the oil tankers (it would be a waste to transport those fine cigars in an oil tanker!)?

Is looking forward to donning the El Presidente title again.

I for one am NOT pushing for complete realism, but I do want a reasonable level of verisimilitude.

I respectfully suggest that your "second" ship looks nothing like a "cruise" ship but does look very much like a very short haul ferry -- that is one that would not be used on the open sea but only on a river or closed bay, and never overnight.

You said "real ingame" which I interpreted to mean the real game as would be played by the final user - allbeit a pre-Beta version. Now you say it's an "internal test-version". O.K. That means what is in the screenies was not assembled through gameplay, just inside the game engine - almost.

Now I know; thanks for saying so.

I don't think anyone, including El_Malo, is suggesting that you are or should be doing a simulation rather than a game. (BTW, by definition a simulation can not be 100% accurate.) In fact, I think it was El_Malo who asked early on if T3 was going to retain the light touches of humor that T1 included, for example the pot-bellied Banker in the pinstriped suit.

The degree of verisimilitude that a game conveys has a lot to do with avoiding as much as possible the grossest anachronisms and glaring cultural transplantations. Of course, those are things observed only by adults. Children have no problem with silly associations. So how much you pay attention to such issues indicates the direction of your marketing.

I find it disturbing that you are including a variety of wildlife in the jungle, but you call a short haul ferry, a cruise ship. But you don't need the fans' help do you?

Shy
