I am running Windows 7 on a 1 year old laptop HP dv series with 17" screen. It ran well. All of a sudden last night the game stopped working and when I re-started it, all the saved games were gone. I then started it from the CD instead of screen icon.

This happened ironically, while I was leaving Bremen on the third of three special missions. Once before on a WinXP older machine I did this and the game blew down and I could never restart that saved game. I figured it was a glitch in the application program. I realize this may be unrelated, but I suspect the game locks up or blows down when the operating system finds there are too many things to handle late in a game. Once I have lots of cities and buildings and ships, I begin to worry the system will not be able to handle the number of bits or things required. Memory issue? Graphics issue?

Now I have lost all saved games on the new machine. Where did they go? Why were they wiped from C:\? I looked in the Saved Games folder under the main Patrician III folder and couldn't see any.

Please help me. I have been playing Patrician for many years.

You could try a search for ".pat" and ".pst" files on your hard drive, and see if anything comes up. I'd also do a search in the "c:\users" folder, as a lot of saves for many games get saved in this folder.

To find them I searched for .pst file in my computer, I found the files in C:\Users\<your name)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Patrician III\Save\Ein
