Avatar details and screenshots released for Kalypso Media’s Tropico 3!

Worms / Bracknell 18th June 2009

Tropico fans from around the world have been eagerly awaiting a sequel to the cult series for years – now their long wait will finally come to an end in September 2009!

Tropico 3 stays true to the heart and soul of the original Tropico. One of the most prominent features of the sequel is your own, freely customizable avatar. This time, you will be able to slip into the clothes of El Presidente, wander about Tropico Island and directly influence your people.

Avatar Features:

• The avatar is a special customizable unit that the player creates and controls.
• Avatars can be male or female
• The player is able to customize the avatar's face, hairstyle, facial hair, hat, clothing, and additional accessories.
• The avatar travels across the island on foot or with his limo.
• The avatar is able to speed up constructions, inspect buildings, address the people from the balcony of his palace, calm down a protest, or go on a diplomatic mission abroad.
• The avatar may also engage in combat and personally shoot down rebels. If he is unlucky enough to be wounded, he can retreat to his palace to recuperate.

Yeah, good point!

He looks like a 3 year old, he's not tall enough to climb the stairs next to him, or to get into the car by himself. I'd say he's not even 1 meter tall.

Oh my! Has everyone forgotten that this is a true 3D presentation? It's a matter of perspective folks.

Perhaps that is an issue that is too complex to solve here.

The car infront of El Presidente is an OLD SCHOOL limo, which is normal to be enourmous. And in case you din't know, almost all of the dictators in the history were short fellows.

dictators can be tall, as long as his microphone reaches his mouth he can be tall as he likes
vaguely on discussion
will their be traits and incompatible ones? cos while thats something i really like the first one gives you a good idea in your head of the man it always bugged me the biblical scholars couldnt be fascists as the two go together really well. hopefully in the new one but who knows eh.

I still think he's too little. He can't even look inside the car through the window and he needs climbing gear to go up those stairs, next to him.

The question is; are all the people in the game that tiny now, compared with the surrounding environment ? Or just the president ? Because they kinda looked normal in the previous screenshots.

The president looks normal with the other objects in the surrounding, like the stair and the sidewalk. Maybe it is just a 3d effect playing with the perspective.

In 1908, Alfred Adler published about his so-called "Napoleon Complex" that had to do with a theory that short/little men were more agressive to compensate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heightism#H...n_politics

Heightism
Heightism is a form of discrimination based on height. In principle it can refer to unfavorable treatment of either unusually tall or short people.

Taller candidates have the advantage in electoral politics, at least in the United States (where statistics are available for study). Other countries may be different, such as Russia, where President Vladimir Putin is 5' 7.5" (1.71m) and the newly elected President Dmitry Medvedev is only 5'5.5" (1.66m). France's President Nicholas Sarkozy is 5' 6.5" (168 cm). Of the 44 U.S. Presidents, only five have been more than an inch (2.54cm) below average height. Moreover, of the 54 U.S. presidential elections only 13 have been won by the shorter candidate, and only 11 times has the shorter candidate received more popular (as opposed to electoral) votes. Quantitative studies of U.S. Senators and Governors have shown that they are on average several inches taller than the U.S. population at large. During the 2004 election, some anti-Bush artwork and political cartoons depicted him as much shorter than he actually stood, favoring Kerry, who was taller.

Non-electoral politics are more difficult to study, as outcomes based on height are more difficult to quantify. Nevertheless, a number of powerful dictators have been below average height. Examples include Engelbert Dollfuss (4′11″; 1.50m), Deng Xiaoping (5′0″; 1.52m), Kim Jong Il (5′3″; 1.60m), Nikita Khrushchev (5′3″; 1.60m), Francisco Franco (5′4″; 1.63m), Joseph Stalin (5′5″; 1.65m), and Benito Mussolini (5'6"; 1.68m). Contrary to popular impression, Napoleon Bonaparte at 5′7″ (1.70m) (taller than the average Frenchman at the time) and Adolf Hitler at 5′8″ (1.73m) were both within the average height range for their times and places.

It should be noted that the quoted sample is a very small to support the conclusion of "almost all".

Engelbert Dollfuß (October 4, 1892 – July 25, 1934) was an Austrian Christian Social and Patriotic Front statesman, who was chancellor of Austria from 1932 and right-wing dictator of Austria from 1933 until his assassination by Nazi agents in 1934.

Well, what happens if there is an uprisal and he is sitting in a strip bar or a casino... Is he going to safelly walk back to the palace?
El Presidente can not be always popular amongst all the citizens... there definitelly will be some opponents... some protestors... some enemies... That is why he needs to be protected - for the benefit of his reign and the future of Tropico Wink
