New Honey Airlines DLC for Airline Tycoon 2 Announced
It’s a Sweet Deal!

New Honey Airlines DLC for Airline Tycoon 2 Announced

Bracknell, UK - 29th March 2012

Kalypso Media is pleased to announce the upcoming availability of new downloadable content its popular airline management simulation – Airline Tycoon 2. The new content, dubbed “Honey Airlines”, will add a new playable character, along with new missions and additional gameplay features.

The “Honey Airlines” DLC will arrive in mid-April on Windows PC, and will be available for purchase via the Kalypso Launcher and other digital platforms for £6.49/€6.99. This DLC requires the original Airline Tycoon 2 game to play.

Mamma Mia! Airline Tycoon 2 gains Italian flair with the new “Honey Airlines” DLC. Mario Zucchero is back in the airline business, and just like in the good old days, it’s all about power, dough and amore. Play the entire previous campaign plus two new missions with Mario, and learn what’s driven the fiery Italian back to the airline business.

As an additional feature, this DLC introduces cargo flights, opening another source of income to aspiring Tycoons.

Features:
  • New character: Mario Zucchero, completely voiced with his own story
  • New airline: Honey Airlines
  • Two additional campaign missions
  • Cargo: Visit the new cargo hangar location and transport goods all over the world!
  • All new features can also be used with the existing characters

Omg I am so happy! Finally my favorite manager will come back into the game! I am waiting for it so eagerly! Thank you thank you thank youuuuuuuu! Well Mario's room doesn't look as messy as the original room but I am still happy I can fly with Honey Airlines.

I know that Airline Tycoon is not one of the most famous games around like Tropico but I really hope it will not die early. I always feel sad to not see the main page updated..

So much for 'no more updates in 2012.' Maybe Kalypso meant 'no more free updates in 2012.' I like the added features but I wish we did not have to pay more to improve the gameplay.
And where is Falcon Lines and Ziggi?!

There will be also a free new patch coming soon. And we also added a lot of features asked by the fanbase for free.
Regarding paid DLC: This is an AddOn (even though it is a small one). And making such a DLC/AddOn costs money (programming, designing graphics, scripting missions, recording voices etc).

But expansion packs in games or DLC nowadays are meant to be added features. If you look back in time AT 1 also gave the Cargo option with an expansion pack. What else an expansion pack would be fore if not to improve the gameplay =p

Also I am happy to see the website updated Smile I hope in the end Airline Tycoon will become a legend like its predecessor.

RE: New Honey Airlines DLC for Airline Tycoon 2 Announced
I am very glad you, Kalypso Media, have continued your commitment to creating an enjoyable sequel to Airline Tycoon, and this patch (even though it costs money) is a much needed improvement to Airline Tycoon 2. UNFORTUNATELY, from what I see viewing screen shots, in order to implement Honey Airlines, you take one of the other airline competitors out of play. This is a great disappointment because, if the game supported 5 airline managers, it would be the first significant improvement contributed to the Airline Tycoon series by Kalypso Media...HOPEFULLY I am wrong , and the screen shots are just misleading. But if I'm not, I'm not sure people are going to want to pay money just to add Cargo and switch out one of the airline managers.

P.S. I'm really not trying to be so negative towards you guys, but it just seems like the patches you have released and are planning (which I commend you for) should have already been in the game from the get go. When you make a sequel, it should incorporate all the previous features that players/customers enjoyed; you shouldn't be focusing all your time and effort on backtracking and reincorporating old features into the game that should already be there. Again, thanks for the sequel and keep up the good work, but you guys really need to evaluate what we (the consumers) want and expect =/ (*cough* Online gameplay that was in AT1 *cough*)

If you buy the DLC there will be five avatars total in the game. When you start a mission or a sandbox game, three of them will be chosen as your enemies to get a total amount of four avatars in a match. But you can choose from all five of them.

I fully understand this. Let me rephrase my comments. It is a disappointment that, even though you added a new playable character, there are still only 3 enemy airline managers for a total of 4 airline managers co-existing simultaneously. It would be well worth paying for a patch that added an actual new feature to the series (more than 4 airline managers competing simultaneously). The addition of cargo to Airline Tycoon 2 is not a new feature to the series since it was in the previous Airline Tycoon as was Honey Airlines. It's basically paying for something you had in the previous game.

Although this is an ideal way of making money for you, Kalypso, it isn't something I nor most Airline Tycoon players are impressed with. I can only pray that actual, new features are added to the series by Kalypso, and that old features in the first Airline Tycoon aren't the only things you will be patching into the game.

*cough 6-10 airline managers simultaneously cough*
*cough multiplayer, online games that can be saved and loaded cough*
*cough airline codeshares and/or alliances*
*cough connecting flights, hubs, etc*
*cough slot restricted airports with high competition*
*cough REAL aircraft models (as to enjoy some realism)*
Cool

a lot of features (like cargo, multiplayer etc) had not been in airline tycoon 1, this features where added with the later paid addon called first class.

but you do not have to buy the upcoming dlc addon of course.
btw, we will not add multiplayer before you ask...

It's a matter of perception for the gamer.

Although some features like cargo and multiplayer were technically part of stand-alone expansions/addons for the original Airline Tycoon, some of those features just feel like they belong to the base/core of the game. Nevertheless, some features (e.g. security) were added to Airline Tycoon 2, even though it was an expansion feature in Airline Tycoon. So it's not as if the "base" of Airline Tycoon 2 is entirely modeled after the "base" of Airline Tycoon.

Part of the problem is also that the expansions to the originals were stand-alone applications. So to a typical gamer, an expansion to the original could be perceived as an update to the original instead. Such a gamer would; therefore, ask: "why did Airline Tycoon 2 backtrack to the original?"

Furthermore, Airline Tycoon 2 was marketed as a "sequel" to Airline Tycoon. That's a somewhat deceptive term because sometimes "sequel" can imply that all content from the original series (i.e. expansions included) are retained in some way.

Obviously, the developers and production company have a different perspective, but most gamers don't (and shouldn't have to) care about that. Anyway, those are my thoughts as a fan of the original series.

By the way, thanks for the addons.

Oh I have a question! Will the expansion include a fix to finally complete some of the minor missions in this game such as buying used plane parts from the Duty Free shop, finding the Bartenders lost dog, or actually interacting with the homeless guy in the airport?

I am not going to debate on what you say but I can think a handful of big titles in the gaming world that always backtrack to their vanilla state of game when they upgrade it and release expansions later. Its not like it has not be done by many companies.

sigh i wish , you would add more game changing content rather than cosmetic ones, how about adding the steamworks features to airline tycoon 2 , im sure the game would sell better there if promoted well , i have the game on steam it shows that the game has stats but nothing if you click it

more than the characters. an expansion or dlc would be better if it had
-more missions
-real planes
-more locations
-better interaction with the other managers
-more gadgets/devices to use in game like mobiles , laptops etc

Well, aside from the new character, the Honey Airlines DLC will bring a new location (fright hangar), a new game mechanic (fright) and two new missions. So there is a lot of content added.

Thank you for pointing me to the steam page error about the stats. Didnt see that up to now.

RE: New Honey Airlines DLC for Airline Tycoon 2 Announced
As a new unbiased customer I want to thank the devs for creating a unique game and finally a cargo DLC. May I kindly ask if Memphis International Airport in TN,USA will be added after the DLC? Not adding it is denying one of the busiest late-hour cargo hubs in the United States. It's not known for airline travel like Atlanta, but it's the king of cargo volume and is a nice addition to include in the DLC. Plus an ability to add our own airline logo with MS paint or whatever? Can I modify some code with notepad to add airports if you can't add Memphis? Thanks, sorry for all the questions!

The identifier is KMEM if you decide to add it to the game.

I wasn't suggesting that it's not done by other companies. What I was suggesting; however, was that the dissatisfaction that I sense from some fans of the original series stems from a combination of: the way in which the original series was released, the way in which AT2 is marketed, and the weakness of the very argument that other companies "backtrack to their vanilla state of game" as well. An effective business strategy in one situation can be flub in another.

And the very first thing I said was: "It's a matter of perception for the gamer." In other words, it's a matter of perspective. As someone who probably plays many more games than I do, you probably find certain game development practices more tolerable; you're used to it. I'm not, so I have a different opinion.

NOOB question, Why is this forum more full of AT1 rants than AT2 topics? If you want AT1 back, go play it instead, just my two cents.

To be fair to them, some of what you mentioned weren't in the original series, but I think all the features you described would be awesome additions to the series. I would also love to be able to form alliances and codeshares with other airlines. Having fictional aircraft models is actually quite disappointing to me as an aviation fan; if only the creators would consider adding some real ones - that would be sweet. I also think the return of realistic gate assignments would add back more of a strategic element to the series. This game has a lot of potential to be so much better...the wait continues...

For me one of the best past addons, the creation of your own plane, was implemented as soon as the game came out. Now that only for me was a big bonus. Aw well tomorrow the DLC will be out. Finally I will play the game all over from the beginning. Personally the only reason I am unhappy is the amount of missions compared to the older one. I want more and more missions even if they resemble each other Smile

4 out of 6 of those things weren't in the original title; you're right. But what I was arguing above is that this game needs actual additions to the SERIES (The Airline Tycoon series...that means the orignal game, both of its expansions, and Airline Tycoon 2). The 2 features that were in the previous Airline Tycoon (Let me clarify that I consider the previous airline tycoon to be the orignal AND BOTH OF ITS EXPANSIONS) should, without a doubt, already be included in Airline Tycoon 2. It really is a no-brainer.

Online multiplayer is one of the most innovative, entertaining addition to video games in the past 20 years. There is no reason it shouldn't already be there. IF YOU DO NO INCLUE ONLINE MULTIPLAYER, you MUST have good content in single player...the amount of content that currently exists within Airline Tycoon 2 just isn't justifiable to make the game considered good.

Real plane models, for a game that has you run your own airline that serves REAL airport/cities, are a must. Aviation fans, such as myself, really only buy this game to be able to experience aviation (airplanes, airports, etc.) and to be able to have the experience of running your own airline (which is a nearly impossible-to-obtain dream for most aviation enthusiasts). When you ONLY have unrealistic, goofy planes, it's unappealing. You don't have to actually have the real names of the planes (Boeing 737-800, 747-400, Airbus A320, etc.), you just have to base some planes off of them. That's what aviation enthusiasts want, but even casual gamers who have no knowledge of aviation aren't satisfied with solely custom planes. Having to create custom planes or buy random planes from the used plane shop/junkyard can be tedious and tiresome. Casual gamers just want to buy a "small", "medium", and "large" planes to fulfill their contracts and routes. Sure, creating a custom plane here or there is fun, but not all the time. Just look at the subject titles to the airline tycoon 2 steam forum; very negative. Just sayin'.

As for the 4 new features I suggested, I only suggest those because I want the game to be better. I want Kalypso Media to create a good product that not only I but everyone else can enjoy. If people enjoy your product, they will be happy that they spent the money buying it in the first place. If they're happy they bought it and continue to play it, they may tell their friends how great a game it is. If that happens, more people may buy it. I want Kalypso Media to be PROSPEROUS from their efforts to develop Airline Tycoon 2; not fail at developing a game and eventually abandoning it. I want you guys to succeed and decide to develop more Airline tycoon expansion packs and even sequels (just like Tropico!). I want the Airline Tycoon series to develop into something that doesn't just have a small, cult following but a substantial customer base who supports the game. Get it? If so, get on it.

You've responded to requests to add flight monitors in the airport and to be able to view planes while in the terminal. This is good! That means you've listened to customer feedback; great job! CONTINUE DOING THIS. I'm definitely not the only one who has complained about this game and its lack of features. Respond to my and everyone else's feedback while you still can! Not every company gets it right the first time; keep at it. Don't strive for mediocrity; strive for excellence. Thanks

The only reason why both me and my friend does not buy this game, is because there's no Multiplayer in it.
Where can I ask, and how do I do it?

Excuse me for asking, but dont you google? There are many forums where people ask if there is multiplayer in this game, and discusses the lack of multiplayer

Your own forum: http://forum.kalypsomedia.com/showthread.php?tid=7278

And there is a world outside your own forum, perhaps you should google a bit?
