Exclamation Game crashed and now can't change graphics settings
The game (Modern Times) crashed while playing and when it started back up there was a dialog box saying that the graphics options have been reset. When I go to try and change them, I cannot click on anything in the graphics dialog window (not even Close!).

Any help would be appreciated. Here is a screenshot of what is happening:

I have the Steam edition and am running Windows XP on a pretty good graphics card.

This could be caused by your user settings being corrupted as a result of the crash. Go to Start => Run, type %appdata%\Tropico 4 and press Enter. You'll be taken to the game's application data folder. Delete the file named DeveloperStorage.lua, restart the game and check whether this resolves your issue.

File deleted, and still no change. Cannot click on any of the other option tabs (General, Hotkeys, Visuals, Online) nor can I click on close. Is there some way to force the game start in a higher resolution? The game seems to be permanently stuck in Safe Mode at this point unless I can finally access that Visuals menu.

If this doesn't work, it's probably your profile data that is corrupted. You can try to delete the file save.lua in the %appdata%\Tropico 4\users\user1 folder (there could also be user2, user3, etc. if you have multiple profiles in-game). This will unfortunately erase your campaign progress (but not your savegames).

Whatever the problematic file is it must be in your %appdata%\Tropico 4 folder, so as a last resort you can delete the whole folder, but this will also erase the savegames.

Also make sure that you are starting the game from within Steam and to via a shortcut or the EXE file itself.

Game has been started from within Steam and the exe; both with the same result.

Deleted the whole %appdata%\Tropico 4 folder. Same result. No change.

I'm sorry that didn't help, this is strange indeed. Could you send me the contents of the logs folder in %appdata%\Tropico 4 after a try to edit the options? I will send you my address in a private message.

Thank you for your help.

I need to apologize as I have completely wasted your time. The problem turned out to be a MOD. Thought I had removed all of them before installing Modern Times, but was mistaken. There was one still hanging around that was named oddly. After deleting it and booting up the game, I was able change the graphics without issue.

So happy to play the game again. Smile

Which mod was it?
