I recently purchased Tropico on Steam after borrowing a copy from my friend, installing it, playing it and enjoying the game thoroughly. Unfortunately, every time i try to start the game on Steam it crashes upon startup. If anyone has found a fix to this problem your help would be most appreciated.

Have you tried verifying the game data via the steam client? It might also be that the client is still downloading updates for the game.

I've verified the game data andchecked to make sure that everything was up to date. I then went into the game files and founda crash report. I don't know if it helps but i'll post it here.

so I e-mailed the kalypso team for support, and after only a day they e-mailed me back and gave me a set of instructions to follow. They work! and i can continue to play and love Tropico 4. in case anyone running into the same issue comes across this, I'll post the steps below:

1. Open up Steam
2. Click on top left "Steam"
3. Now choose "Settings"
4. Click on tab "In-Game"
5. Uncheck "Enable Steam Community In-Game"

That's quite strange, as your crash is not in the Steam module. If your crash log is correct, then it means that the problems with the Nvidia 3D vision driver are in fact related to the Steam in-game overlay?!...

i think that was the specific line in the crash report to see that it is something with Steam...
