Multi-platform swashbuckling sim gets an online home

Bracknell, UK, 12th April, 2012

Kalypso Media today launched the official web site for Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants, their upcoming multi-platform empire-building game. The site, located at http://www.port-royale3.com, showcases screens, videos, news and enough game info to fill a treasure chest! Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants will arrive in the UK and Export Territories on 7th September for console and Windows PC.

In Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants, players will embark upon an epic adventure through the Caribbean during the turbulent 17th century where the naval powers of Spain, England, France and the Netherlands all fight for supremacy in the colonies.

Players take on the role of a young captain trying to build his fortune and reputation in the new world colonies. The campaign consists of two different paths for the young protagonist to follow: adventurer and trader.

Following the path of the adventurer will lead the player on a naval conquest where they must gain notoriety through raids, piracy, bounty hunting, plundering and conquering cities as they strive to build their new Caribbean empire.

The route of the trader sees the player using their economic know-how to become the most powerful trading tycoon in the New World by setting up trade routes, building production facilities and developing cites.

In free-play mode, the player crafts a combination of the two paths, creating a unique and challenging scenario on the path to increase wealth and power.

In addition to the single-player campaign, there are robust multiplayer modes where players can go head-to-head using commercial, economic and conquest simulations to allow for fast-paced gameplay.

so what?
did you paid anything upfront, did you paid for the development? no, you just have to wait a little bit longer, thats it...

But you don't understand you dashed his hopes and dreams, his life will now collapse in on its self and he will become a hobo begging for scraps under a bridge some where. All because the date changed...oh the agony...the brutal undesirable agony.

On a less sarcastic note. It is my fervent hope that you all will post a series of video's with commentary that explain the game to those of us unfamiliar with the series. Something meaningful that is more then pretty pictures and eye candy videos. ;-)

Well, i have bought other kalypso games, so i have contributed, if its anything like P4 kalypso didnt pay for development either, ascaron did. P4 was just a prettied up bersion of 3. And it not the having to wait its the miss leading timeline if its gonna be longer say that from the start!! These companies always do this its bs! Oh and btw do what?? Are you saying they don't need people to buy? Just going to give it out for free!!

Chazson, please calm down. Getting angry isn't helping you here and it's bad for your health as well. (you know, slamming fists in the wall hurt your fist more as the wall. Slamming your fist in your monitor hurst your fist ànd your wallet.)

You're partially right in this matter, but give Kalypso some credit as well.

It's true it's said the release of PR3 was planned for Q2, 2012. However, it said no-where it was the international / world wide release. Because it said q2, 2012, you assumed the game would be internationally released that day.

Fact is, the game is going to be released at may 4th at Steam and in Germany. Which is actually Q2, 2012.

So you're right. Perhaps Kalypso should have mentioned earlier to us that the international release is set (postponed) to early september 2012.
On the other hand, look at it from the bright side: If there are any bugs left after beta-testing, the German players most likely will find and report them. Meaning the international members here get a better game or a ready-to-download patch when their version is ready.

As for P4;

yes, Ascaron was developing the game when they went bankrupt. Fortunately for all of us, Kalypso was prepared to buy the old franchise as well as helping several former Ascaron employees to start Gaming Minds and to finish P4. So, in a way, P4 is still an Ascaron game, just as PR3 will be, because the core of employees is part of both Ascaron and GM.

I know from first hand that the Sacred Franchise got sold to Deep Silver and the fans of that game are in Deep S. The reason for it is that DS spend just enough resources to give the former Ascaron-employees the time to create a patch and a hotfix. After that the game basicly got abandoned, although the MP servers were on-line up to march this year. There has been no news from DS to the Sacred Fans, there hasn't been a community manager there for quite some time and other than telling that a Sacred 3 will be develloped, no other news has been brought out.

So when it comes to feedback to their community and being a true heir to the Ascaron Legacy, it's my opinion that Kalypso is doing quite the better job.
Despite their occasional communication error.

Ascaron was not working on any new Patrician. We bought the Ascaron licenses, founded Gaming Minds Studios (Kalypso is the majority shareholder) and started the development.

My "AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition 2012" got a setting (for when scanning) that says "User Sensitive" , perhaps you and maybe some others too (??) ought to get one of those "settings" ? Wink Cool Big Grin
Even if the guy were upset like a child waiting for christmas and then not getting his present when promised , and even if a child behaving badly in such a situation might , by some parents, have been spanked and sent to it's room, then keeping ones cool and using the "old" (apparantly ever lasting) "Sorry" , "we are doing our best but the delay is unavoidable" - were also what one could have answered - if being in that situation and having a "User Sensitive" mode.. Wink

Yes, yes , I know that some of us "customers" are a real pain Wink Cool Big Grin

The experience gives gamers a new single-player strategy that allows gamers get into a little problems as a bigner, raiding and plundering places and convoys as they try to become the most well-known buccaneer to cruise the Caribbean.
