Visuals problem - no postprocessing, poor AA
I havent played for a while and now when i started again i noticed that AA seems lower... I have tryied both "sharp" and "soft" versions and the "soft" seems not as "soft" as it was before, especially at higher distances of camera when i move it around i cant help but im noticing the lack of AA symptoms everywhere...

Before i got somethign similiar to this:
http://cdn.steampowered.com/v/gfx/apps/2...1333042376
edit: http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/4537/screen1if.jpg

and now i have this:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/540672...B154467C8/
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/540672...CC102424C/

with all settings maxed out

Have gtx480 with latest released drivers

Just noticed there is totally, absolutely no difference between postprocessing off and high... I think this is the reason of why it look so different and poorer than before... And also no difference on grass off/high...

RE: Visuals problem - no postprocessing, poor AA
this is the screenshot i found in my old appdata backup of tropico:
http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/4537/screen1if.jpg - it looked realy good before

So in sum seems i have worse:
- shading
- postprocessing
- antialiasing
- and some other options doesnt make any difference...

Tropico 3 had best graphics, but worst performance. Maybe they had to lower things for console players.

No no, i have had awesome looking tropico 4 before... it somehow broken Sad WIll try to reinstall fresh - maybe it will fix it.

reinstallation didnt fixed the problem :/ I still seem to not have any postprocessing, poor antyaliasing and lower shader. Sad Can anyone help? I bet it wouldnt be a problem if i wouldnt tasted the better visuals before... Unless im just a victim of autosugestion and it should look like that? But then why there is no difference between low andhigh shader and postprocessing off/high?

Here is screenshot from different island - different sky lightning:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/540672...CC102424C/

Have it always looked like that on max settings? (Click on image to zoom in- the browser will try to fit the screen making it smaller and looking smoother and it would give false results Smile)

whlie i could live with the lack of postprocessing and awesome shaders i cant stop noticing the lack of proper AA :/ Whenever i move camera a bit it hurts the sad panda in me when i see all the jagged buildings... no way it was like that before. Is it related with windows 7?

Some of your screens look that way because there seems to be a certain weather in effect. Please note screenshots taken with the in-game social media screenshot sharing feature will be post-processed with AA to look the way they look. Also, in-game AA options may not be available or work properly depending on the graphics card/driver you're using.

That said, try to delete the 'ShaderCache' folder in %appdata%\Tropico 4

There's always the chance of graphics settings screwing up when updating a driver of migrating from different retail versions of Tropico 4.

RE: Visuals problem - no postprocessing, poor AA
Thanks for the reply.

Well the wierd thing is that i upgraded motherboard, processor, windows vista to windows 7 (both 64bit) but my GPU stayed the same. Only thing that changed with my GPU is that now there is only the new nvidia driver available (so i cant roll back to make sure its driver fault), and previously on the same GPU it looked better - the postprocessing and antyaliasing are the biggest changes i notice.
Yes, i dont mean the colours cause they are affected by weather/time of the day on the island (and they looked very nice before too), but the jagged bulding models and absolutely no postprocessing. Sad

What is the biggest worry of mine is the absolutely no change between postprocessing off/high... and i bet that should not be like that? Otherwise why would there be option to change it? That makes me certain that my game is not being rendered properly, and the AA anoyance is not just autosuggestion while returning from BF3 and other games. I remember tropico 4 visuals were beautiful and stunning, and now i can hardly stand the look of it and it just suckens all the fun of playing :/

The folder ShaderCache is empty there - should it be empty?

I have done clean installation of nvidia driver, made sure windows is up to date and reinstalled tropico 4 on steam completly deleting all data including appdata folders to no avail so far :/

On those screenshots you cant see how bad the 3d models behave when i move camera... the jagged edges flickers like crazy reminding me "hey look how bad we look now compared to how we looked before!"

edit:
normall weather view:
http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/540672...CC102424C/
(look at the edges of the garage model on the left upper part of image after making sure screenshot is in original size)

edit2:
Maybe some technician developer could look into nvidia 296.10 win7 drivers and see if its still compatible with tropico 4? You can cut my hand off if thats how it supposed to look at highest visual settings on gtx480 cause i swear it looked way better - its not easy to put me in awe of graphics in game, and tropico did that before i installed it here again - its not possible in impressed me that much looking like it looks like now for me.

edit3:
Would be great if i could force better AA trough nvidia panel but sadly application disallows that and the only option is "adjust application settings" inseatd of "replace app settings" and it doesnt change a damn thing even if i put it to x32 ... it still stays at what seems to be x2 at best. Is the steam version somehow inferior to the version downloaded from other stores?

RE: Visuals problem - no postprocessing, poor AA
Or i might be really wrong and deceived by my memory... After playing shogun2 and other games i got used to higher antyaliasing and now i notice what i havent notice before? Could someone confirm that whats on those screenshot is best tropico4 can offer from the graphics side of view (particulary antyaliasing levels and post processing)?

edit: and i think thats the case Smile Thats a shame, tropico could have option to crank up antialiasing - nowaday gaming rigs can easily run much more than x2
edit2: after psending some time actually playing i think its doesnt look that bad, just could look much better with few adjustments - you can see that clearly when you start playing it after playing long games with high AA options. Anyway, enough of this chitchat, its time to check up on my people...
